MyCareer Character Creation: A Whole New Ballgame

Published

on

Hopefully, you guys and gals have been hard at work creating your own versions of yourselves, any non-included wrestlers, and just about any other creation you could possibly imagine since our last meeting! Today, though, it is a whole new ballgame when it comes to the MyCareer creation suite. I have seen many complaints about the limited system and I shall share my own input later. As mentioned previously, you cannot import a “Creation Suite” character into MyCareer. There have also been many rumblings over this across the web and I will definitely air my opinion on that one as well.

Once in MyCareer, you will be faced with the daunting task of the most bare bones creation wizard you have ever seen! It’s a straightforward system for the look of your wrestler and that is about it. It does however accomplish something that I feel was truly lacking in all of the previous games: player connection. This comes in the form of the much needed and appreciated character class system being updated specifically for this and Road to Glory modes as they are technically one and the same.

The hardest task in this entire endeavor is selecting your fighting style. I know I continue to make references to the NBA2K franchises and it feels apt to make another. Naturally with the nature of pro wrestling there are no positions as you would see in other sports. With the addition of alignment, however, it is quite feasible to create not necessarily a “position”, but a role.

With this in mind, my fellow wrestling fans, think back. Think back to the days of being a kid in the backyard, pool side. You and your best buds acting out all those moves into the nice cooling waves of the pool or onto the springy mesh of a trampoline. Now use those memories to figure out which of the eight total styles most closely relates to you as a gamer.

This may sound strange, but it was actually a very boring week for me as I tried out all of the styles. And hopefully, with this last piece of personal insight before we hit the facts on the styles themselves you can make a sound decision for your first MyCareer star. I will have a link to a spreadsheet below that will supply you with the starting and maximum number of attribute points for each style.

High-Flyer

WWE 205 Live

The smallest, yet certainly not the most frail to grace the squared circle, we start with the high-flyers. This style is for the Kalisto, Mysterio, and Sin Cara fans out there. This is the class of star that takes high risks with the hopes of garnering a high reward. The high risk does pay off in the manner of having higher toughness than some of their larger peers. These guys will use guts along with their speed and athleticism to run circles around opponents while simultaneously wowing the crowd with death defying feats.

Luckily, these guys also start off with very useful skills and abilities designed to allow for a true lucha feel. Of course they have their top rope diving as well as springboard abilities but, the icing is the diving pin combo skill level 1.

Showboat

Ric Flair

This one should be a no-brainer, but I will lay it out there. These guys talk the best smack and don’t mind getting as dirty as necessary to back up their big mouths. Don’t get it twisted though, these guys can make great fan favorites (faces) as well. This is the main style that I have been progressing with and it does come with it cons, most notably with low toughness overall and a low starting point for striking ability.

On the bright side, you are granted excellent stamina and the highest reversal points in game. The showboat is allowed the ability of a second finisher and comebacks from day one. They also start off with the fan favorite skill level 1. So, anyone who is like myself and loves to hear the praise of the fans while using it as their motivation to lay waste while stylin’ and profilin,’ then this is the class for you.

Striker

Aleister Black and Hideo Itami

It is in the name. These wrestlers are “proper” fighters using quick flurries of punches and kicks to dissect their opponents while keeping them honest at the same time. The combination of their striking ability and high stamina level makes for a vicious onslaught of attacks that can leave an opponent senseless and motionless in the ring in as fast as 1–2-lights out! As far as abilities, these gents will have the luxury of starting out with combo striker and ring escape level 1. As I said, it’s pretty simple. They can dish out a lot of pain with their hands, feet and knees and they can take it just as well.

Technician

Dean Malenko

Masters of the mat, the men of a thousand holds. With these gentleman there are few if any wasted motions as they control their opponent while both standing and lying on the mat. This style of wrestling is definitely the home for all you submission junkies!

Showing the prowess of a lion and the cleverness of an owl, any wrestler in this class is always one step ahead of their opponent. They are masters of technique and grappling. Beware, as these guys are always going to succeed if you try to take them on in their own game. Starting out this choice will leave you with the top rope diver and leverage pin abilities as well as the technician level 1 skill.

Here is another link to a courtesy spreadsheet on behalf of yours truly. I wish I had something like this my first go around. I actually have checked a few other reports and this is the only place I know of that you have access. Enjoy!

Brawler

Dean Ambrose

The ring? Do we need to use that? It’s a common thought that must run across any brawlers mind from time to time. These insane fighters that often prefer to eschew any perceivable “technique” couldn’t care less where they are destroying their opponent, just as long as they get to obliterate them in grand fashion. At home in the ring and even more at home backstage or ringside.

The reason these wrestlers do not get destroyed in conventional matches is despite their lack of technical know how, they are some of the most athletic and physically resilient that the game has to offer. Starting out these masters of disaster are granted the abilities of removing the turnbuckle and rallying a comeback as well as the ruthless aggression skill level 1.

Strong Style

Shinsuke Nakamura

It has not taken Shinsuke Nakamura long to leave his mark on WWE TV and he has invaded career mode this year as well. With his unorthodox style, the King of Strong Style is officially passing on the opportunity for us to live the life of ease. You have to always be on your toes when you step into the ring with a master of the strong style technique.

The toughness and grappling ability of these stars shines brighter than life due to their completely unique and often absurd in-ring fighting style. This is the style that showcases the antics from stars like Nakamura, AJ Styles and even Jeff Hardy. This style will start with the comeback and top rope diver ability as well as the resiliency level 1 skill.

Powerhouse

Lex Luger

These are the guys that everyone tunes in for, whether you hate them or you are their number one fan. These wrestlers are chiseled from the very stone of the Coliseum itself, the true “gladiators of their time.” The iconic favorites that always overcome the hurdles the authority sends their way. This is the style of the Cenation, the fuel of the Batista Bomb, the archetype that began it all: Hulkamania!

The sheer power of these fighters coupled with their grappling attributes make for the fiercest of competitors. The men of this school use brute force to get what they want, so have that signature/finisher button handy, as these fighters start off with the fired up ability. If the moveset is constructed correctly, partnered with the skill of pin combo level 1, this style of inring ability is most likely the easiest to play for anyone new to the games.

Giant

Andre The Giant

Whoever said everything isn’t in a name obviously has never met a giant. This style is not about speed, power, or even skill. It is about fear!

These “monsters” are nothing more than literally giants among men, and although they have been called by many monikers they simply are just really huge guys. Their toughness is what allows them to withstand more than any other participant in the ring and out. These are the tanks of the wrestling world, a force that not only takes a beating but are also a pain to lift (especially for the smallest weight classes). Their toughness is only seconded by the power attributed to them by their size.

Out of the starting blocks these wrestlers are granted the prized immovable object level 1 which helps a great deal since these men are unable to outmaneuver anyone else in game. They are also granted the ability to use the hammer throw modification of the Irish whip.

Once the character creation wizard is completed, the player will then be entered into the NXT performance center where they will experience the tutorial which is pretty short and lacking in the way of giving many tips or tricks. Now, onto those perceived issues mentioned at the beginning of this piece.

I have to address the elephant in the room. The gorilla in the corner. It has been going around the web since launch about the inability of character import into MyCareer. If we could just have free reign to create a character using everything the game has to offer, it would take away from that personalized connection to your MyCareer superstar I mentioned earlier. I understand that many are also upset about the virtual currency method. I believe that the manner in which you have to make choices goes in line with all of the other choice based changes to MyCareer. I will leave it at that for this article and my opinion of character import.

Well guys and gals, that is all I have to bring to y’all today in reference to creating your MyCareer characters. Review that spreadsheet and the style related spiels as many times as you need. You only have three slots again this year so hopefully this information helps you all create a great character that helps you blaze through the ranks of both MyCareer and Road to Glory.

Chris King: Is Brock Lesnar Truly Retired?

Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…

Brock Lesnar WWE WrestleMania 42 Retirement

Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…

At WrestleMania 42, ‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar took off his boots and gloves following his loss to Oba Femi. Lesnar has done it all inside of his twenty-four-year career in professional wrestling. He’s a ten-time WWE Champion and former UFC Heavyweight Champion, and he’s one who ended The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania.

While Lesnar was in the ring, he was visibly overwhelmed with emotion and crying while he thanked the fans in his own way. The Beast even threw up an x to signal to Paul Heyman, his longtime friend and advocate, that this was not scripted and was real. There had been rumors that Lesnar and Oba were supposed to have a series of matches before everything went down at Mania.

‘The Career Killer’ Gunther was doing Heyman’s bidding as he faced Seth Rollins for a favor. For a while now since Gunther retired Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, the rumor has been Gunther was set to retire Lesnar in his hometown at this year’s SummerSlam event. There’s been no confirmation if Lesnar is truly retired, but on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, we saw Heyman talking with General Manager Nick Aldis. Later that night following Rhodes’ match against the debuting Ricky Saints, Gunther choked out the WWE Champion. Could this be the favor from Heyman?

I know in the world of professional wrestling we live by the mantra of “never say never,” but what if Lesnar is actually retired and this was WWE’s way of shutting down those rumors about Gunther and Lesnar? What if Gunther’s next program is chasing after the WWE title, and where is Randy Orton at in all of these plans? There are so many questions that need to be answered, hopefully soon!

Chris King: Defend The Intercontinental Championship At Backlash!

With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!

Penta WWE Intercontinental Championship WrestleMania 42

With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!

This year’s annual Backlash showcase is only a few days away, and while there are many big matches announced, one that definitely should be isn’t on the card. In my opinion, outside of Roman Reigns/Jacob Fatu and Seth Rollins/Bron Breakker, the Intercontinental Championship scene has been stellar over the last month.

Penta has been an excellent champion, especially after his triumphant title defense in a ladder match against JeVon Evans, Rusev, Dragon Lee, and the Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42. Their ladder match at Mania was one of the best that WWE has produced in a while.

The momentum never stopped, as on the post-Mania episode of Monday Night Raw, ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page made his debut and was quickly inserted into the Intercontinental title scene. Page had a fantastic showing against his longtime NXT rival Evans and picked up a big win in his debut match thanks to an assist from Rusev.

All Ego immediately joined forces with ‘The Bulgarian Brute’ Rusev, who was also vying for the Intercontinental Title in his own right. On this week’s episode of Raw, Page and Rusev defeated Evans and Penta. All Ego pinned the champion, making a huge statement and putting him one step closer to getting a title shot. For the past few weeks I’ve been anxiously waiting to see if WWE was going to add this incredible fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Championship, but it hasn’t happened yet.

As much as the WWE Universe enjoys witnessing great matches on free television, I truly believe all four superstars deserve the chance to showcase their talents on the PLE. While Penta has done a terrific job as the intercontinental champion, it’s time for a fresh face to hold the prestigious title. Page would make a great braggadocious heel that would help elevate the Intercontinental Championship to new heights!
