Official Chairshot Staff Picks: WWE Greatest Royal Rumble

Published

on

Okay, so this event has sparked a lot of conversation on Twitter, of which I’m not touching. But let’s just look forward to an afternoon/early morning of wrestling on a Friday. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia hosts a special event, so let’s just take this for what it is, and go from there.

Current Standings:

Andrew: 20-23
Greg: 20-23

Alright, now on to our pick for the show.

50 Man Royal Rumble

It’s a royal spectacle! There’s really no way to break this down. 50 guys will enter, some will probably be local talent, some surprise legends, and I don’t know. I just wish the winner got something more than a trophy.

Eric: Braun Strowman
Rick: Braun Strowman
Steve: Braun Strowman
Weigell: Daniel Bryan
Andrew: Braun Strowman
Harry: Braun Strowman
Tony: Curt Hawkins

Daniel Bryan: 4

Official Chairshot Pick: Braun Strowman

Universal Championship Cage Match: Brock Lesnar (c) vs Roman Reigns

The rematch of the century, that no one wants! We should all know how much I enjoy Roman Reigns, but this story is languishing and Roman getting a rematch after a clean loss, doesn’t even make wrestling sense. So it is whatever, many people expect this to be Roman’s crowning achievement since he will most likely get cheered with this audience.

Eric: Roman Reigns
Rick: Roman Reigns
Steve: Roman Reigns
Weigell: Brock Lesnar
Andrew: Brock Lesnar
Harry: Brock Lesnar
Tony: Roman Reigns
Patrick: Roman Reigns
Ninja Steve: Roman Reigns
Mathew: Roman Reigns
Cook: Roman Reigns
PC: Roman Reigns
DPP: Roman Reigns
Platt: Roman Reigns
Big Dave: Roman Reigns
Greg: Brock Lesnar

Brock Lesnar: 4

Roman Reigns: 12

Official Chairshot Pick: Roman Reigns

Intercontinental 4 Way Ladder Match: Seth Rollins (c) vs Finn Balor vs The Miz vs Samoa Joe

All of these men have history together, and sure it can be argued we basically saw this at Mania. Should be a fun match, a title change would be entertaining but who knows.

Eric: Seth Rollins
Rick: Seth Rollins
Steve: Seth Rollins
Weigell: Seth Rollins
Andrew: Finn Balor
Harry: Samoa Joe
Tony: Seth Rollins
Patrick: Seth Rollins
Ninja Steve: Seth Rollins
Mathew: The Miz
Cook: Seth Rollins
PC: Finn Balor
DPP: Seth Rollins
Platt: Seth Rollins
Big Dave: Samoa Joe
Greg: Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins: 11

Finn Balor: 2

The Miz: 1

Samoa Joe: 2

Official Chairshot Pick: Seth Rollins

WWE Championship Match: AJ Styles (c) vs Shinsuke Nakamura

This whole build up is interesting. Especially since many of us believe this is a glorified house show, but you’ve still got a good story. Personally my take is that AJ may get frustrated to the point of low blowing Shinsuke because there’s been 3 weeks of nut shots. It would be old school booking for Styles to lose but keep the title and have a blow off at Backlash like a No DQ match or something.

Heel Shinsuke should insure this match is fun, but it can go either way in regard to winning.

Eric: Shinsuke Nakamura
Rick: AJ Styles
Steve: Shinsuke Nakamura
Weigell: Shinsuke Nakamura
Andrew: Shinsuke Nakamura
Harry: AJ Styles
Tony: AJ Styles
Patrick: Shinsuke Nakamura
Ninja Steve: Shinsuke Nakamura
Mathew: Shinsuke Nakamura
Cook: Shinsuke Nakamura
PC: AJ Styles
DPP: AJ Styles
Platt: Shinsuke Nakamura
Big Dave: AJ Styles
Greg: Shinsuke Nakamura

Shinsuke Nakamura: 10

AJ Styles: 6

Official Chairshot Pick: Shinsuke Nakamura

US Title Match: Jeff Hardy (c) vs Jinder Mahal

This is a recurring theme on this card. Split brand matches, with championship implications. Hard to really gauge this, but after Smackdown this week, it seems like Orton and Hardy are playing mind games, but Orton will protect him from the Singh interference. Orton might be playing Fling the Singh at some point to help out Hardy.

Eric: Jeff Hardy
Rick: Jeff Hardy
Steve: Jeff Hardy
Andrew: Jeff Hardy
Harry: Jinder Mahal
Tony: Jeff Hardy
Patrick: Jeff Hardy
Ninja Steve: Jeff Hardy
Mathew: Jinder Mahal
Cook: Jeff Hardy
PC: Jeff Hardy
DPP: Jeff Hardy
Platt: Jeff Hardy
Big Dave: Jinder Mahal
Greg: Jeff Hardy

Jeff Hardy: 13

Jinder Mahal: 3

Official Chairshot Pick: Jeff Hardy

Raw Tag Titles: Deleters of Worlds vs The Bar

What? What? Trade a team to Smackdown, even though they have a Raw Tag titles match? Okay…maybe this is a magical swerve to make us believe The Bar has no chance. Right? I don’t know…but at least it seems like Bray has found a stride with Matt Hardy.

Eric: D.o.W.
Rick: D.o.W.
Steve: D.o.W.
Weigell: D.o.W.
Andrew: D.o.W.
Harry: D.o.W.
Tony: D.o.W.
Patrick: D.o.W.
Ninja Steve: D.o.W.
Mathew: D.o.W.
Cook: D.o.W.
PC: D.o.W.
DPP: D.o.W.
Platt: D.o.W.
Big Dave: D.o.W.
Greg: D.o.W.

Official Chairshot Pick: Deleters of Worlds (Unanimous)

Smackdown Tag Titles: Bludgeon Brothers (c) vs The Usos

Aside from us getting a nice angle with Naomi interjecting herself and possibly building towards keeping more of the family vibe. Also, let’s notice that somehow Naomi seems to confuse the Bludgeon Brothers, which cost them in this last episode of Smackdown. BUT – if the Bludgeons won at WrestleMania when the Usos had a whole other team in the match, they have no business winning a straight up tag match.

Eric: Bludgeon Bros
Rick: Bludgeon Bros
Steve: Bludgeon Bros
Weigell: Bludgeon Bros
Andrew: Bludgeon Bros
Harry: Bludgeon Bros
Tony: Bludgeon Bros
Patrick: Bludgeon Bros
Ninja Steve: Bludgeon Bros
Mathew: Bludgeon Bros
Cook: Bludgeon Bros
PC: Bludgeon Bros
DPP: Bludgeon Bros
Platt: Bludgeon Bros
Big Dave: Bludgeon Bros
Greg: Bludgeon Bros

Official Chairshot Pick: Bludgeon Brothers (Unanimous)

Casket Match: Rusev vs Undertaker

Aside from the fun Twitter volley that Rusev managed to spin some intrigue, this match is odd. I don’t know why you book Undertaker after he comes out of “retirement” if he’s not gonna win. Rusev is established enough to put up a fight and maybe earn a few false finishes that get a reaction, but I don’t know how many people really see Undertaker eating a loss here.

Eric: Undertaker
Rick: Undertaker
Steve: Undertaker
Weigell: Rusev
Andrew: Undertaker
Harry: Undertaker
Tony: Undertaker
Patrick: Undertaker
Ninja Steve: Undertaker
Mathew: Undertaker
Cook: Undertaker
PC: Undertaker
DPP: Undertaker
Platt: Undertaker
Big Dave: Undertaker
Greg: Undertaker

Undertaker: 15

Rusev: 1

Official Chairshot Pick: Undertaker

Triple H vs John Cena

This is one of the big special attractions for the show. Two guys who are future hall of famers, huge in all markets, the crowd will go wild. However wins this match, the crowd will eat it up. It’s win/win.

Eric: John Cena
Rick: No Contest
Steve: John Cena
Weigell: John Cena
Andrew: John Cena
Harry: John Cena
Tony: John Cena
Patrick: Triple H
Ninja Steve: John Cena
Mathew: John Cena
Cook: Triple H
PC: John Cena
DPP: John Cena
Platt: John Cena
Big Dave: John Cena
Greg: John Cena

John Cena: 13

Triple H: 2

No Contest: 1

Official Chairshot Pick: John Cena

Cedric Alexander vs Kalisto

I’m actually a little intrigued to see if the Saudi crowd will care about the Cruisers more or less than the usual American crowd. This match has no real story to it, Kalisto won a gauntlet match since Buddy Murphy didn’t meet the 205 Live weight limit. So, we get a match that will probably be solid, but there’s not a lot to unpack here.

Eric: Cedric Alexander
Rick: Cedric Alexander
Steve: Cedric Alexander
Weigell: Cedric Alexander
Andrew: Cedric Alexander
Harry: Cedric Alexander
Tony: Cedric Alexander
Patrick: Cedric Alexander
Ninja Steve: Cedric Alexander
Mathew: Cedric Alexander
Cook: Cedric Alexander
PC: Cedric Alexander
DPP: Cedric Alexander
Platt: Cedric Alexander
Big Dave: Cedric Alexander
Greg: Cedric Alexander

Official Chairshot Pick: Cedric Alexander (Unanimous)

Chris King: Is Brock Lesnar Truly Retired?

Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…

Brock Lesnar WWE WrestleMania 42 Retirement

Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…

At WrestleMania 42, ‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar took off his boots and gloves following his loss to Oba Femi. Lesnar has done it all inside of his twenty-four-year career in professional wrestling. He’s a ten-time WWE Champion and former UFC Heavyweight Champion, and he’s one who ended The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania.

While Lesnar was in the ring, he was visibly overwhelmed with emotion and crying while he thanked the fans in his own way. The Beast even threw up an x to signal to Paul Heyman, his longtime friend and advocate, that this was not scripted and was real. There had been rumors that Lesnar and Oba were supposed to have a series of matches before everything went down at Mania.

‘The Career Killer’ Gunther was doing Heyman’s bidding as he faced Seth Rollins for a favor. For a while now since Gunther retired Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, the rumor has been Gunther was set to retire Lesnar in his hometown at this year’s SummerSlam event. There’s been no confirmation if Lesnar is truly retired, but on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, we saw Heyman talking with General Manager Nick Aldis. Later that night following Rhodes’ match against the debuting Ricky Saints, Gunther choked out the WWE Champion. Could this be the favor from Heyman?

I know in the world of professional wrestling we live by the mantra of “never say never,” but what if Lesnar is actually retired and this was WWE’s way of shutting down those rumors about Gunther and Lesnar? What if Gunther’s next program is chasing after the WWE title, and where is Randy Orton at in all of these plans? There are so many questions that need to be answered, hopefully soon!

Chris King: Defend The Intercontinental Championship At Backlash!

With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!

Penta WWE Intercontinental Championship WrestleMania 42

With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!

This year’s annual Backlash showcase is only a few days away, and while there are many big matches announced, one that definitely should be isn’t on the card. In my opinion, outside of Roman Reigns/Jacob Fatu and Seth Rollins/Bron Breakker, the Intercontinental Championship scene has been stellar over the last month.

Penta has been an excellent champion, especially after his triumphant title defense in a ladder match against JeVon Evans, Rusev, Dragon Lee, and the Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42. Their ladder match at Mania was one of the best that WWE has produced in a while.

The momentum never stopped, as on the post-Mania episode of Monday Night Raw, ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page made his debut and was quickly inserted into the Intercontinental title scene. Page had a fantastic showing against his longtime NXT rival Evans and picked up a big win in his debut match thanks to an assist from Rusev.

All Ego immediately joined forces with ‘The Bulgarian Brute’ Rusev, who was also vying for the Intercontinental Title in his own right. On this week’s episode of Raw, Page and Rusev defeated Evans and Penta. All Ego pinned the champion, making a huge statement and putting him one step closer to getting a title shot. For the past few weeks I’ve been anxiously waiting to see if WWE was going to add this incredible fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Championship, but it hasn’t happened yet.

As much as the WWE Universe enjoys witnessing great matches on free television, I truly believe all four superstars deserve the chance to showcase their talents on the PLE. While Penta has done a terrific job as the intercontinental champion, it’s time for a fresh face to hold the prestigious title. Page would make a great braggadocious heel that would help elevate the Intercontinental Championship to new heights!
