As it was noted earlier in the day, WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross recently discussed his experience at the Greatest Royal Rumble on April 27th during the newest episode of his podcast, The Ross Report.

In addition to details on how he had armed guards bringing him to his Kickoff panel position, the rumors of the women being paid for the show despite not being on the card also came up. Ross had the following to say:

“I have no idea (if they were paid), I dunno why it would be that way. It’s not anybody’s ‘right’ to be on any card, you earn your right to be on the card and the women have done a phenomenal job…I am as big a supporter of women’s athletics in general. Hey, I’m a season ticket holder to OU (Oklahoma University) women’s basketball games, I’m a big fan of the OU women’s softball team…National Champions, defending National Champions. So I’m a big fan, but I view the same thing about WrestleMania. It’s not your birthright to be booked. It’s like playing in a Super Bowl, you earn your right to get in that game and so, I believe that the women…I dunno if they were paid or not. I dunno why they would have been paid, I may piss some people off, but I’m just being honest. That’s my problem I have sometimes.”

EA’s Take: While we still don’t actually know for certain if the women were paid or not and I do believe JR is kind of missing the point here, but I totally get what he’s saying. Many people will immediately assume he’s saying the women “don’t deserve it”, but he’s taking the stance of “If you’re not on the card, you don’t get paid”. We know that the women weren’t allowed to be on the card, which Ross completely failed to mention. I do believe his comparison to WrestleMania is one hundred percent correct though.
