‘The Viper’ Randy Orton has been noticeably absent from WWE programming over the past couple of weeks, making his last appearance on-screen at Backlash on May 6th. Orton came up short in his bid to win the United States Championship from Jeff Hardy and hasn’t been on SmackDown Live, nor the current WWE European Tour.

Many assumed Orton’s absence from the tour was due to his new schedule, which doesn’t see him work a lot of live events, if any at all. Today, WWE has addressed the whereabouts of ‘The Apex Predator’, revealing that he has undergone surgery for a medial meniscus tear. According to WWE, Orton is currently at home recovering and they did not provide a timetable for his return. The multi-time WWE Champion commented:

“I’ve known I needed the surgery since late last year, but I’ve been waiting for the right time to get my knee cleaned out. Right now was the right time.”

EA’s Take: It was tough to tell what was going on with him because of how his schedule is, we usually see him get some breaks as well since he’s getting up there in age. I looked into meniscus tears and found that the recovery time for such a surgery is usually right around three months. However, we don’t know the exact procedure Orton had or the nature of the damage that needed repair, which plays a role. He also could have underwent another surgery called a meniscectomy, which only comes with a 3-4 week recovery time. Either way, I’d still like to see him come back refreshed and with something he can creatively sink his teeth into. That’s when he’s at his best.
