If you remember, there was loads of talk heading into WrestleMania 34 that we could be getting a huge women’s match-up that would see WWE’s Four Horsewomen of Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch and Bayley take on MMA’s Four Horsewomen of Ronda Rousey, Shayna Baszler, Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke. Of course that didn’t take place and instead, Rousey teamed with Kurt Angle to take on Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, while Shayna Baszler defeated Ember Moon for the NXT Women’s Title the night before.

We are now one step closer to having all of MMA’s Horsewomen in a WWE ring as today it was announced by WWE.com that both Shafir and Duke have reported to the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida for training. Shafir is the fiance of current NXT Tag Team Champion and Undisputed Era member Roderick Strong, giving birth to the couple’s first child last year.

EA’s Take: This was such an inevitability that when I go to post something like this, I always internally ask myself, “Is this really news?”, because it seems so obvious. It was the worst kept secret in wrestling, especially since it was teased at least year’s Mae Young Classic, that a Horsewomen vs. Horsewomen match was on WWE’s mind. I’d be shocked if it didn’t happen some day and although Shafir and Duke will definitely have some work to do (as will Ronda for that matter), their background gives them a bit of a leg up as opposed to someone coming in off the streets. What I will find interesting is how WWE gets to such a match with people being on different brands. You’d have to think Shafir and Duke will definitely be going to NXT first.
