Former WWE Superstar and multi-time World Champion Rey Mysterio has been a very busy man since we’ve last seen him inside a WWE ring. The purveyor of the ‘619’ is still a part owner of the AroLucha promotion, has been recovering from an injury, but also working for AAA and will be in a 6-Man Tag tomorrow at New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Dominion where he will partner with Jushin Liger and Hiroshi Tanahashi to face Cody Rhodes, Marty Scurll and Hangman Page.

After making a surprise appearance in the Royal Rumble back in January, Mysterio has only made one other appearance for the WWE as an entrant in the Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia on April 27th. There’s been talk that the company is interested in working with Mysterio more, however there’s been no news on that front for a number of weeks now.

According to Dave Meltzer on the latest Wrestling Observer Live, WWE still wants to work more with Rey this year and while nothing has yet to be finalized, the sides are still negotiating. It’s being said that with Mysterio pretty booked up through the Summer, the most likely scenario would see him back in the WWE this September.

EA’s Take: I buy this, Mysterio’s appearance back in January was a welcome surprise, however there’s also been a lot of talk that WWE wants him full-time. I’m not interested in that, he’s 43-years old now and hasn’t been the same guy in the ring for a number of years, on top of his susceptibility to injury. Pretty ironic that when all this came about, Mysterio almost immediately got hurt again. If you can get him part-time, then I’m all for it.
