Ja’Von’s Weekly IMPACT Wrestling YouTube Report (7/26/18)
This week’s episode of IMPACT was the post-Slammiversary show and featured new X-Division Champion Brian Cage retaining his title over former champion Matt Sydal.
This week’s ratings for the show have increased from last week’s go-home show which you can check out here.
Here is this week’s YouTube Report (numbers collected at 6:00 PM EST):
- Eddie Edwards Answers Austin Aries’ Challenge with a kendo stick: 89K views
- Scarlett Bordeaux’s red hot debut: 85K views
- Austin Aries Wants a match with Anthony Carelli’s student: 69K views
- Brian Cage vs. Matt Sydal: X-Division Championship rematch: 56K views
- LAX Won The Battle, but The OGz intend to win the war: 48K views
For a post-PPV show, these are some high numbers, especially for IMPACT. The last time that IMPACT got high numbers on YouTube was back when Allie faced Su Yung for the Knockouts Championship at Under Pressure.
On the road to Slammiversary, Eddie Edwards had an obsession with ending Tommy Dreamer. Now that he has, he had a new obsession and that’s the World Title. IMPACT is playing this one perfectly by having Eddie sneak up on Aries and attack him with his new kendo stick.
I honestly didn’t expect much from the newest Knockout, Scarlett Bordeaux. She seems to be more like a women’s wrestler of the past. Women’s Wrestling has been going through an evolution for the past few years and Bourdeaux seems to be stuck in the past. No surprise though that she is in the number two spot for her debut, I mean she is a gorgeous woman and all.
Former WWE Superstar Santino Marella, real name Anthony Carelli, made his IMPACT debut this week by introducing one of his students who was having a tryout. Was watching this segment live, I didn’t get much from it, but apparently it resonated with the fans due to it being in the number three spot.
Immediately after losing his championship to Brian Cage at Slammiversary, Matt Sydal invoked his rematch clause for this week. This was my match of the night and the fans seem to love Cage as champion.
LAX won the first battle at Slammiversary, but the war is far from over. I have been enjoying the civil war between LAX and The OGz. After Slammiversary, it seems that fans wanted to know what happened next since LAX was taken out.
Final Verdict: This weeks show was overall great. The matches were great and served a purpose. Storylines continued and Aries found a new challenger in ‘Crazy’ Eddie Edwards.

Former WWE Star Reveals How Company Tests Wrestlers for an “Attitude Problem”
A former WWE star took to social media to explain, in brief, how WWE evaluates its talent to determine whether they have an “attitude problem.” The post offered a glimpse into the company’s behind-the-scenes vetting process, suggesting that behavior and professionalism are actively monitored during a wrestler’s time with the promotion.
While the explanation was limited, the revelation underscores WWE’s focus on maintaining locker-room culture and managing talent dynamics. Fans and industry observers may read the post as further evidence that character and conduct behind the curtain can be as consequential as in-ring performance.

WWE Backlash Match Sparks “Clone War” Debate in Wrestling Community
Wrestling fans and insiders are abuzz after a match at WWE Backlash was accused of “copycatting” a formula previously used by an independent wrestler, a situation some are calling a new “clone war” in the industry. The controversy highlights growing concerns about creative overlap between major promotions and the indie scene.
The debate raises questions about originality and recognition, with observers wondering whether mainstream companies should acknowledge or adapt indie ideas more transparently. As the story spreads, fans and performers alike are watching to see how promotions handle influence, credit, and creative borrowing moving forward.
