5 Things That Should Happen at SummerSlam 2018

SummerSlam

5. Dean Ambrose Returns

The Lunatic Fringe has been out due to injury since December of last year, and with every passing Pay-Per-View we all speculate that he’s gearing up for a return. But now the rumors and speculation could lead to something. If Ambrose does make his return, it will have something to do with Seth Rollins and the Intercontinental Championship match he has with Dolph Ziggler. This is where the options start opening up. The main desire of the fans regarding this situation is that Dean would interfere, costing Rollins the match and setting up a program for them. However, there are some alternatives, such as Rollins winning the championship, then Ambrose attacks him after the fact. Or Ambrose coming back to help Seth in a two on one situation. WWE can have some fun with this, but Ambrose should make his return in New York, as it is the biggest stage he can make such a big impact on.

4. Miz and Bryan Steal the Show

At the moment, the SmackdownLive side of SummerSlam looks far more intriguing than the RAW side. This match is a large part of that, as the near two year build has let the idea of this match simmer in everyone’s minds, making it must see. While many would have the contest at WrestleMania, there is some good to come out of it happening at the Biggest Party of the Summer. For one, we don’t know if this will be the only match between these two. If WWE can continue the rivalry while keeping it fresh, we could see it stretch out to a Hell in a Cell encounter or even WrestleMania, though it might be a long shot. Either way, this first match should be a barn burning. The crowd itself should do the work for them, but Bryan and Miz will likely put on a match worthy of the main event. Whether they are put on last remains to be seen.

3. Becky Captures Gold

Becky Lynch has floundered in the SmackdownLive Women’s Division since losing the championship to Alexa Bliss way back in 2016. In the ring Lynch is one of the best women on the WWE roster, so it boggles the mind how she hasn’t been spotlighted nearly the last two years. But now is her time. Carmella’s time has run it’s course, with many upset with her run as champion Lynch is in a firm position to take the top spot on SmackdownLive. With Evolution on the horizon, WWE will want to place the best of the best at the forefront, and Becky fits within that category. Besides maybe Asuka, Lynch is the only big name female on SmackdownLive, so her carrying the belt can help bring some luster back to the division.

2. Joe vs. Styles Lives Up to the Hype

This should be one of, if not the best match on the card. However, we all saw what WWE did to the Styles Nakamura feud. There will be no telling how good this match will be until be get to the Barclays Center. That is a shame considering the matches the two had back in TNA. You’d expect the two to bring everything to the table, but knowing WWE it’s important not to get your hopes up too much. The match does have the opportunity to be a match of the year candidate, and hopefully we get just that. IT doesn’t really matter which of the two wins the WWE Championship as both are deserving. Joe has been monstrous on the mic and a run with the top prize would do wonders for not only him, but Smackdown Live as well. However, Styles has been carrying the brand well so far, and since he is on the cover of WWE’s latest video game, he may carry the belt for a while longer. Either way, our fingers will be crossed for an epic encounter. If we don’t get it, then we’ll probably have five more matches between the two, and at least one of those will live up to the hype.

1. A Money in the Bank Cash In

Whether it is Braun Strowman or Kevin Owens is a mute point. Either man cashing in on the main event and capturing the Universal Championship would be euphoric for so many that it would rival that of Seth Rollin’s cash in at WrestleMania 31 (which oddly enough involved the same two competitors). With Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar set to do battle yet again, the fans are despite for a change of the status quo. No doubt the New York fans will tear the match apart if nothing changes, so WWE might be wise to add a nice little wrinkle to the encounter. A cash in after the match would also suffice. Perhaps Roman finally gets the win over Lesnar only to lose the championship to Strowman, reigniting their feud. With a battle over the briefcase happening on the same show, we could be treated to some foreshadowing. Although a cash in during the RAW after SummerSlam has a higher probability of happening, that would still bring about some buzz.

Chris King: Is Brock Lesnar Truly Retired?

Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…

Brock Lesnar WWE WrestleMania 42 Retirement

Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…

At WrestleMania 42, ‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar took off his boots and gloves following his loss to Oba Femi. Lesnar has done it all inside of his twenty-four-year career in professional wrestling. He’s a ten-time WWE Champion and former UFC Heavyweight Champion, and he’s one who ended The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania.

While Lesnar was in the ring, he was visibly overwhelmed with emotion and crying while he thanked the fans in his own way. The Beast even threw up an x to signal to Paul Heyman, his longtime friend and advocate, that this was not scripted and was real. There had been rumors that Lesnar and Oba were supposed to have a series of matches before everything went down at Mania.

‘The Career Killer’ Gunther was doing Heyman’s bidding as he faced Seth Rollins for a favor. For a while now since Gunther retired Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, the rumor has been Gunther was set to retire Lesnar in his hometown at this year’s SummerSlam event. There’s been no confirmation if Lesnar is truly retired, but on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, we saw Heyman talking with General Manager Nick Aldis. Later that night following Rhodes’ match against the debuting Ricky Saints, Gunther choked out the WWE Champion. Could this be the favor from Heyman?

I know in the world of professional wrestling we live by the mantra of “never say never,” but what if Lesnar is actually retired and this was WWE’s way of shutting down those rumors about Gunther and Lesnar? What if Gunther’s next program is chasing after the WWE title, and where is Randy Orton at in all of these plans? There are so many questions that need to be answered, hopefully soon!

Chris King: Defend The Intercontinental Championship At Backlash!

With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!

Penta WWE Intercontinental Championship WrestleMania 42

With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!

This year’s annual Backlash showcase is only a few days away, and while there are many big matches announced, one that definitely should be isn’t on the card. In my opinion, outside of Roman Reigns/Jacob Fatu and Seth Rollins/Bron Breakker, the Intercontinental Championship scene has been stellar over the last month.

Penta has been an excellent champion, especially after his triumphant title defense in a ladder match against JeVon Evans, Rusev, Dragon Lee, and the Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42. Their ladder match at Mania was one of the best that WWE has produced in a while.

The momentum never stopped, as on the post-Mania episode of Monday Night Raw, ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page made his debut and was quickly inserted into the Intercontinental title scene. Page had a fantastic showing against his longtime NXT rival Evans and picked up a big win in his debut match thanks to an assist from Rusev.

All Ego immediately joined forces with ‘The Bulgarian Brute’ Rusev, who was also vying for the Intercontinental Title in his own right. On this week’s episode of Raw, Page and Rusev defeated Evans and Penta. All Ego pinned the champion, making a huge statement and putting him one step closer to getting a title shot. For the past few weeks I’ve been anxiously waiting to see if WWE was going to add this incredible fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Championship, but it hasn’t happened yet.

As much as the WWE Universe enjoys witnessing great matches on free television, I truly believe all four superstars deserve the chance to showcase their talents on the PLE. While Penta has done a terrific job as the intercontinental champion, it’s time for a fresh face to hold the prestigious title. Page would make a great braggadocious heel that would help elevate the Intercontinental Championship to new heights!
