EA’s Weekly RAW YouTube Report (7/30/18)
As we all know, social media and other outlets have become a huge means of drawing in interaction and viewers for WWE. Most people will point to television ratings like they did during the Monday Night Wars in the late 1990’s, however that can be skewed with so many various means of watching today that do not include cable television.
As you’ve become accustomed to, here is this week’s RAW YouTube Report (2:30 PM EST, 8/1/18):
- Brock Lesnar snaps and attacks Paul Heyman – 7.3 million views
- Roman Reigns calls out Brock Lesnar – 1.4 million views
- Roman Reigns gets escorted out of the building – 1.3 million views
- Heyman pleads with Lesnar – Ronda Rousey brawls with Alicia & Alexa – 1.2 million views
- Braun Strowman vs. Jinder Mahal – 1.1 million views
- Brock Lesnar reminds Paul Heyman they aren’t friends – 1 million views
Jackpot, baby! We have a new RAW YouTube champion (at least as long as I’ve been covering these) as Brock Lesnar defeats our previous top earner Ronda Rousey with a whopping 7.3 million views, the most of anybody over the past handful of months. The entire focus of RAW, outside of Ronda’s return, was all on Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar, as evidenced here by our top seven. Five of those seven spots are occupied by the night-long angle between the SummerSlam opponents, so go ahead and tell me again why WWE would want ‘The Beast Incarnate’ to leave the company? Look, I get it. Lesnar’s Universal Title run hasn’t been fun, but that doesn’t mean he needs to leave WWE just because you haven’t liked this reign. The numbers we see here, ALL raking in at least a million views, are a prime example of why Brock is valuable. There’s no argument against it, so don’t even try me!
One of our two spots that wasn’t about Brock or Roman was a tie for fourth, the red brand’s other YouTube “titan”, Ronda Rousey. Her return seemed a bit overshadowed on the program due to Lesnar and had he not been there, this spot likely would have been number one like it is almost every other week when she’s involved. RAW overall bored me to death this week, but when it comes to YouTube it’s not always about the action. Are there cases where a great match can draw views? Of course, especially if there’s a title change. However, when it comes to these reports, nine times out of ten it’s all about star power.
The only other spot left open for someone outside of Reigns, Lesnar and Rousey is number five with the smoldering hot Braun Strowman. His streak of raking in tons of views continues and is the only match to make our top seven this week. ‘Mr. Monster In The Bank’ again proves that he’s on a roll because looking at this list, it’s an accomplishment to be on it considering the competition as he keeps right around the one million mark. If you want someone to take Roman’s spot as the “top guy” in the company, nobody’s hotter than Braun right now. Funny side note: all these people that cry about Reigns being shoved down their throats every week are the same ones complaining about Strowman having the Money In The Bank. If you want someone to take Roman’s spot, stop being so damn picky and quit’cha belly-achin’ every time someone else gets hot!

Former WWE Star Reveals How Company Tests Wrestlers for an “Attitude Problem”
A former WWE star took to social media to explain, in brief, how WWE evaluates its talent to determine whether they have an “attitude problem.” The post offered a glimpse into the company’s behind-the-scenes vetting process, suggesting that behavior and professionalism are actively monitored during a wrestler’s time with the promotion.
While the explanation was limited, the revelation underscores WWE’s focus on maintaining locker-room culture and managing talent dynamics. Fans and industry observers may read the post as further evidence that character and conduct behind the curtain can be as consequential as in-ring performance.

WWE Backlash Match Sparks “Clone War” Debate in Wrestling Community
Wrestling fans and insiders are abuzz after a match at WWE Backlash was accused of “copycatting” a formula previously used by an independent wrestler, a situation some are calling a new “clone war” in the industry. The controversy highlights growing concerns about creative overlap between major promotions and the indie scene.
The debate raises questions about originality and recognition, with observers wondering whether mainstream companies should acknowledge or adapt indie ideas more transparently. As the story spreads, fans and performers alike are watching to see how promotions handle influence, credit, and creative borrowing moving forward.
