Despite not stepping into a squared circle since June 9th at New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Dominion, reigning IWGP Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho has been in the news of late with lots of talk surrounding which promotion he could be heading to next.

Jericho will obviously always be synonymous with WWE, however he is currently a free agent and is not tied down to any one company. In the most recent edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reports that there’s a belief within the business right now that Jericho “is destined” to go to IMPACT Wrestling at some point. Of course, ‘Y2J’ had a big hand in helping Anthem Sports, the parent company of IMPACT, hire Don Callis as the promotion’s Co-Executive Vice President, as well as getting Scott D’Amore promoted to the same title.

Jericho has stated in the past that he was against working in the United States because it would be a “slap in the face” to WWE Chairman Vince McMahon (check that out here), however Meltzer notes that sentiment has begun to change in the past few months.

EA’s Take: Obviously, this would be a huge coup for IMPACT Wrestling. I just can’t fathom it happening though. I get that there’s a connection between Jericho and IMPACT due to their Canadian ties and friendship with Callis, but ‘Y2J’ has also stated before that he wouldn’t want to “lower his value”. I’m sorry, but signing with IMPACT would do that, at least in my eyes. Perhaps a one-off or an appearance, but I think Jericho actually signing a contract with IMPACT is pretty far-fetched, which some have alluded to. The other question is, could they even afford him? I’m not exactly on the up with IMPACT’s financials, but it would certainly cost them a pretty penny to bring him in for anything.
