WWE News: Preview Tonight’s SmackDown Live & 205 Live (8/28/18)
Following last night’s Monday Night RAW, tonight’s WWE SmackDown Live takes over the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada with some big matches previously announced.
As we heard over the weekend, a tournament will begin tonight to determine the next challengers for The New Day’s SmackDown Tag Titles at Hell In A Cell. The first match this evening will see Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson vs. the returning Colons vs. The Bar, where the winners will advance one step closer to their tag title opportunity. Plus, Carmella will get her rematch for the SmackDown Women’s Title when she faces Charlotte Flair. Here’s a look at what else is happening on the blue brand, live at 8PM EST on the USA Network:
- Carmella gets her rematch against Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Title
- The New Day celebrate their fifth Tag Team Championship win
- Triple Threat tag action kicks off the #1 Contenders Tournament when Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson face The Bar and The Colons
- Will Daniel Bryan or Brie Bella get another chance to punch The Miz in the face?
- Where does the rivalry between Samoa Joe and WWE Champion AJ Styles go from here?
As is the case every week, the WWE’s Cruiserweight Division will take over the WWE Network immediately following SmackDown for 205 Live. Here’s what you can expect when the high-flyers hit the air at 10PM EST:
- Will Drew Gulak get another shot at Cedric Alexander’s Cruiserweight Championship?
It’s not enough to attack from behind or to play games with a man’s family. A match at #HIAC isn’t about sneaking around or phone calls…it’s about proving over and again why I. Am. Phenomenal. #AndStill

Former WWE Star Reveals How Company Tests Wrestlers for an “Attitude Problem”
A former WWE star took to social media to explain, in brief, how WWE evaluates its talent to determine whether they have an “attitude problem.” The post offered a glimpse into the company’s behind-the-scenes vetting process, suggesting that behavior and professionalism are actively monitored during a wrestler’s time with the promotion.
While the explanation was limited, the revelation underscores WWE’s focus on maintaining locker-room culture and managing talent dynamics. Fans and industry observers may read the post as further evidence that character and conduct behind the curtain can be as consequential as in-ring performance.

WWE Backlash Match Sparks “Clone War” Debate in Wrestling Community
Wrestling fans and insiders are abuzz after a match at WWE Backlash was accused of “copycatting” a formula previously used by an independent wrestler, a situation some are calling a new “clone war” in the industry. The controversy highlights growing concerns about creative overlap between major promotions and the indie scene.
The debate raises questions about originality and recognition, with observers wondering whether mainstream companies should acknowledge or adapt indie ideas more transparently. As the story spreads, fans and performers alike are watching to see how promotions handle influence, credit, and creative borrowing moving forward.
