As we saw last week on WWE’s SmackDown Live, The New Day defeated The Bludgeon Brothers in a No Disqualification SummerSlam rematch, gaining their fifth Tag Team Championship since the group came together back in 2014. Of course this may not have always been the plan, as Rowan suffered a torn bicep at SummerSlam and was in need of surgery to get it repaired (for more on that go here).

With The Bludgeon Brothers officially out of the picture, this leaves an opening for a new set of challengers to step up to the plate. Today, SmackDown General Manager Paige announced that a tournament will begin this week on the blue brand to determine who will get that opportunity at Hell In A Cell on Sunday, September 16th. The tournament will consist of six teams, making up two Triple Threat matches where the winners will face off in a traditional tag team match to see who goes on to Hell In A Cell:

Additionally, this week’s match will mark the return of The Colons to television, who have not been seen since Epico suffered a shoulder injury last November, forcing him to undergo surgery back in January. Next week’s participants have yet to be announced, however The Usos, SAnitY and Rusev Day are the likely candidates.
