EA’s Weekly SmackDown Live YouTube Report (9/25/18)
As we all know, social media and other outlets have become a huge means of drawing in interaction and viewers for WWE. Most people will point to television ratings like they did during the Monday Night Wars in the late 1990’s, however that can be skewed with so many various means of watching today that do not include cable television.
As you’ve become accustomed to, here is this week’s SmackDown Live YouTube Report (2:30 PM EST, 9/27/18):
- Aiden English reminds Rusev & Lana about Milwaukee – 720k views
- Samoa Joe visits AJ Styles’ home – 654k views
- Daniel Bryan is the guest on Truth TV – 528k views
- Lana vs. Becky Lynch – 388k views
- R-Truth vs. The Miz – 302k views
- Asuka & Naomi vs. Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville – 285k views
- Becky Lynch ambushes Charlotte Flair during a photo shoot – 284k views
Not much to write about this week with our SmackDown Live YouTube Report, as we see a lot of brutal numbers across the board. It only takes a mere 720k views to top our list as the next step in Aiden English’s turn on Rusev reveals something happened with Lana back in Milwaukee. That’s about all we got for details, but this was the biggest angle of the evening, which followed up our number four spot. Becky Lynch has drawn well recently with her segments with Charlotte Flair, but in this case she’s just playing a bit role in the Rusev Day storyline. We will see her again at number seven, but it’s not the views we’re used to seeing.
Sliding in at number two this week is Samoa Joe paying a visit to AJ Styles’ home for the main event segment. This feud has seen its ups-and-downs on YouTube and I thought there was a shot this could be number one. The personal nature of their rivalry has pushed their numbers, but on a week where no clips hit a million, I’m a little surprised to see this segment draw so low.
Number three was our opening segment that had its moments where it was entertaining, but it also missed on a couple of things and honestly, felt a little too overscripted or contrived. It wasn’t the usual laugh out loud segments we’ve seen recently from Carmella and R-Truth, but it was solid and continued the issues between Daniel Bryan and The Miz. It didn’t take much for the accompanying match to make our list either, coming in at number five with just 302k views.
Our entire list this week closely resembles my usual “best of the rest” clips, as evidenced by spots 4-7 all being within (roughly) 100k views of each other. A night that was overall lackluster for the blue brand means that Asuka and Naomi in tag action gets enough play to come in at number six, just edging out number seven by 1k views. This was a nothing match that was basically a glorified squash/advertisement for Asuka and Naomi’s upcoming match against The IIconics at Super Show-Down. Again, not much to write home about this week.

Former WWE Star Reveals How Company Tests Wrestlers for an “Attitude Problem”
A former WWE star took to social media to explain, in brief, how WWE evaluates its talent to determine whether they have an “attitude problem.” The post offered a glimpse into the company’s behind-the-scenes vetting process, suggesting that behavior and professionalism are actively monitored during a wrestler’s time with the promotion.
While the explanation was limited, the revelation underscores WWE’s focus on maintaining locker-room culture and managing talent dynamics. Fans and industry observers may read the post as further evidence that character and conduct behind the curtain can be as consequential as in-ring performance.

WWE Backlash Match Sparks “Clone War” Debate in Wrestling Community
Wrestling fans and insiders are abuzz after a match at WWE Backlash was accused of “copycatting” a formula previously used by an independent wrestler, a situation some are calling a new “clone war” in the industry. The controversy highlights growing concerns about creative overlap between major promotions and the indie scene.
The debate raises questions about originality and recognition, with observers wondering whether mainstream companies should acknowledge or adapt indie ideas more transparently. As the story spreads, fans and performers alike are watching to see how promotions handle influence, credit, and creative borrowing moving forward.
