In the next chapter of the “will they or won’t they” saga of WWE’s Crown Jewel event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia next Friday, November 2nd, the company has once again confirmed the show will proceed with its current location.

As stated in the WWE’s third quarter financial report, here is the company’s announcement:

“WWE has operated in the Middle East for nearly 20 years and has developed a sizable and dedicated fan base. Considering the heinous crime committed at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, the Company faced a very difficult decision as it relates to its event scheduled for November 2 in Riyadh. Similar to other U.S.-based companies who plan to continue operations in Saudi Arabia, the Company has decided to uphold its contractual obligations to the General Sports Authority and stage the event. Full year 2018 guidance is predicated on the staging of the Riyadh event as scheduled.”

Of course, it was being said that the event was once again in jeopardy as there’s mounting pressure from not only outside sources, but apparently the WWE’s own Superstars such as John Cena and Daniel Bryan (see that story here). At last word, the WWE creative team was told Cena needed to be replaced, however he and Bryan are both still being advertised.

Additionally, PWInsider reports that a number of company staff have already begun making their way to Saudi Arabia for next Friday’s show as of yesterday with more expected to make the trip in the coming days.

EA’s Take: Full transparency here, I’m sick of talking about this. It’s not that I don’t take it as a serious issue or anything like that, I’m over all the back-and-forth, are they going or aren’t they stuff. I’ve always felt that they needed to just go and then try to figure out the remainder of the contract from there. There just never was enough time for the company to do what it needed to do to move the event and I’m sorry, but they aren’t going to straight up cancel it and lose out on millions. Never was going to happen unless their hand was forced.
