In case you missed it, New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Tetsuya Naito recently revealed in an interview that WWE had reached out to him about making a move this Summer, however he rather quickly turned down the offer (see the story here).

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the former IWGP Intercontinental Champion is not the only star from New Japan Pro Wrestling that WWE was interested in, as they reportedly contacted at least two other talents and possibly more. It was noted that while Naito quickly declined, the other two stars put more thought into their decision before turning the offers down.

Meltzer would also hint that one name would be a “huge surprise”, while the other is a “great worker” who would have less hesitation at making a move to the United States. At this time, no names specifically have been mentioned. However, among those speculated are Hiroshi Tanahashi, ‘Switchblade’ Jay White, Juice Robinson, Kazuchika Okada and Los Ingobernables de Japon’s EVIL.

EA’s Take: Something tells me that if Meltzer knows who the other names are, he would have dropped them instead of just teasing them. So it’s possible he could be just speculating. Speaking solely for myself, does WWE really even need anymore talent right now? A bit of a rhetorical question because I realize they’re trying to become this global power of sorts with their own little “territories” in different parts of the world. So as big as they are, they keep growing. But, just look at all the rosters. They’re loaded and I think a lot of fans would agree that they have more bodies than they do spots with the way some people are booked.
