Chairshot WWE Week In Review

NXT UK: Episode 3

Trent Seven vs Saxon Huxley: Trent Seven tries his hand at singles competition, without his partner, Tyler Bates at his side, against Saxon Huxley, who looks a little like Bruiser Brody.

This was a really good match. Huxley was extremely dominate throughout the match, but Seven’s toughness was a big factor in this match, as well as his experience. He would put the big Saxon away with the Body Hammer, but after enduring a pretty rough outing, especially for his shoulder.

Flash Morgan Webster vs Mark Coffey (with Joe Coffey): We get an introduction video to the Coffey brothers, who look like a whole lotta bad news.

This match was a rough one. Mark Coffey is rough as a cob while Webster is much more of aerialist. However, this was a really good match. The teamwork of the Coffey brothers was a big factor in this match. Webster would get the win after taking out Joe Coffey, but was then punished by the Coffeys, which brought out Mark Andrews and Travis Banks. The Coffeys retreated, but it looks like the first big feud of the upcoming tag division is being created

Danny Burch vs Sam Gradwell: We get a video package about Danny Burch, who is better known for his work in NXT with Oney Lorcan. We also meet Sam Gradwell, who got cheapshotted by Pete Dunne back in 2017.

This match was stiff as a board and had an old-school feel. However, it was a pretty good match, though I’m interested to see how many lumps on their heads these two had because some of those shots looked nasty. Burch would put Gradwell away with a top rope variation of Randy Orton’s middle rope DDT, which looked extremely nasty.

Burch gives a post-match interview. He says that it’s amazing to be back in the UK and that he’s proud to be an Englishman and the UK will always be his home, no matter where he goes. Burch is a really great mic worker and has the crowd going. Burch calls out Pete Dunne, stating that he’d been doing British Strong Style while Dunne was in diapers. He says that if Dunne wants to, Burch isn’t hard to find and to come at him if he thinks he’s hard enough.

Noam Dar vs Zach Gibson: After their confrontation last week on NXT UK, GM Johnny Saint decided to let Gibson and Dar settle their issues in the ring.

This match was great and had funny moments, including Gibson claiming Dar had something hidden between his shin guard and his boots. Gibson and Dar really took each other to the limit and showed off their impressive skills. Gibson would finally get the win with Helter Skelter after Dar missed a Double Stomp.

NXT UK: Episode 4

NXT UK Heavyweight Championship: Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen several men make a statement about being possible contenders for Pete Dunne’s NXT UK Championship. Last week, Danny Burch came right out and said that he was looking for a shot against Dunne, if Dunne thought he was man enough.

When Dunn was asked about the challenge, he said that Burch was the one that need to be ready, not him. Dunne also says that he perfected British Strong Style, while Burch thinks he invented it. He then said that Burch got the attention that he wanted and that he’ll hurt him and walk out of Cambridge still NXT UK Champion.

Danny Burch’s reply was to cite his career path, which seems to consist of hard work and constant rejection. He had a good deal of respect of Dunne, but was still determined to become NXT UK Champion, no matter what he had to do to win it, which makes him very similar to Dunne.

NXT UK Women’s Division: We got a couple of re-introductions to Jinny and Isla Dawn, both of whom were featured in the Mae Young Classic in losing efforts.

Isla Dawn took on Nina Samuels this week. Samuels had been on the first NXT UK broadcast in a losing effort against Toni Storm. This was a really great match from both ladies. Isla is a very good competitor, which may not have been completely apparent in her Mae Young match against Nicole Matthews. Nina Samuels plays an arrogant heel very well and her arrogance cost her dearly as Isla proved to be a crafty competitor, finally putting away the arrogant Samuels with a gut reel suplex.

NXT UK Tag Team Division: The kings of Mustache Mountain, who have made individual marks in NXT UK took on Saxon Huxley and Sam Gradwell, who had made big impressions on the previous episode.

The match was really good. Seven sold Huxley and Gradwell and made them look really good, which is surprising since he’s a little larger than Tyler Bates. Bates would make the hot tag and got the pin on Gradwell with a lariat and suplex.

Jordan Devlin vs Tucker: Jordan Devlin was looking for a chance to get out of the shadow of his trainer, Finn Balor, and he got that chance against Tucker this week. Devlin had bragged about his aggressive and unpredictable style and that was very much on display. Tucker didn’t make things easy for him, showing some very good offense. Devlin would get the pinfall after countering a swanton attempt and hitting modified Death Valley Driver.

Mark Andrews vs Wolfgang: This was supposed to be a tag team match stemming from last episode’s confrontation with the Coffeey brothers, but Travis Banks was found unconscious and everyone assumed that the Coffey Brothers had jumped him. Under this presumption, GM Johnny Saint announced that Mark Andrews would take on Wolfgang instead.

The match was great. Both guys are great competitors and Andrews was fighting for his downed buddy. Andrews made a few mistakes early on, including trying to sunset flip Wolfgang, who proved a little tougher to move than expected. However, Andrews quickly realized that he was going to have to come up with something else to put down the Last King.

Andrews would finally put Wolfgang away with a Stun-Dog and a shooting star press. After the match, Andrews give Wolfgang a lot of props for the fantastic match and offers Wolfgang a handshake, which he seems to accept.

Remember what they say about assuming? Well, that cliché came into full effect here. Everyone ASSUMED that the Coffey brothers had jumped Travis Banks, and maybe they had something to do with it, but the Coffey brothers have some backup, Wolfgang! The Last King helped the Coffeys beat up Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster after the match.

Chris King: Is Brock Lesnar Truly Retired?

Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…

Brock Lesnar WWE WrestleMania 42 Retirement

Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…

At WrestleMania 42, ‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar took off his boots and gloves following his loss to Oba Femi. Lesnar has done it all inside of his twenty-four-year career in professional wrestling. He’s a ten-time WWE Champion and former UFC Heavyweight Champion, and he’s one who ended The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania.

While Lesnar was in the ring, he was visibly overwhelmed with emotion and crying while he thanked the fans in his own way. The Beast even threw up an x to signal to Paul Heyman, his longtime friend and advocate, that this was not scripted and was real. There had been rumors that Lesnar and Oba were supposed to have a series of matches before everything went down at Mania.

‘The Career Killer’ Gunther was doing Heyman’s bidding as he faced Seth Rollins for a favor. For a while now since Gunther retired Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, the rumor has been Gunther was set to retire Lesnar in his hometown at this year’s SummerSlam event. There’s been no confirmation if Lesnar is truly retired, but on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, we saw Heyman talking with General Manager Nick Aldis. Later that night following Rhodes’ match against the debuting Ricky Saints, Gunther choked out the WWE Champion. Could this be the favor from Heyman?

I know in the world of professional wrestling we live by the mantra of “never say never,” but what if Lesnar is actually retired and this was WWE’s way of shutting down those rumors about Gunther and Lesnar? What if Gunther’s next program is chasing after the WWE title, and where is Randy Orton at in all of these plans? There are so many questions that need to be answered, hopefully soon!

Chris King: Defend The Intercontinental Championship At Backlash!

With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!

Penta WWE Intercontinental Championship WrestleMania 42

With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!

This year’s annual Backlash showcase is only a few days away, and while there are many big matches announced, one that definitely should be isn’t on the card. In my opinion, outside of Roman Reigns/Jacob Fatu and Seth Rollins/Bron Breakker, the Intercontinental Championship scene has been stellar over the last month.

Penta has been an excellent champion, especially after his triumphant title defense in a ladder match against JeVon Evans, Rusev, Dragon Lee, and the Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42. Their ladder match at Mania was one of the best that WWE has produced in a while.

The momentum never stopped, as on the post-Mania episode of Monday Night Raw, ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page made his debut and was quickly inserted into the Intercontinental title scene. Page had a fantastic showing against his longtime NXT rival Evans and picked up a big win in his debut match thanks to an assist from Rusev.

All Ego immediately joined forces with ‘The Bulgarian Brute’ Rusev, who was also vying for the Intercontinental Title in his own right. On this week’s episode of Raw, Page and Rusev defeated Evans and Penta. All Ego pinned the champion, making a huge statement and putting him one step closer to getting a title shot. For the past few weeks I’ve been anxiously waiting to see if WWE was going to add this incredible fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Championship, but it hasn’t happened yet.

As much as the WWE Universe enjoys witnessing great matches on free television, I truly believe all four superstars deserve the chance to showcase their talents on the PLE. While Penta has done a terrific job as the intercontinental champion, it’s time for a fresh face to hold the prestigious title. Page would make a great braggadocious heel that would help elevate the Intercontinental Championship to new heights!
