205 Live

WWE Cruiserweight Championship: Buddy Murphy didn’t have a singles match on Wednesday, but he and Tony Nese took on Cedric Alexander and Mustafa Ali in an INCREDIBLE match that really can’t be described.

There has been speculation that Alexander was going to turn heel on his long-time friend, Ali, but there was no hint of that on Wednesday. Ali and Alexander worked together like a well-oiled machine, as did Murphy and Nese. There were a couple of odd spots. One where Murphy almost fell on Ali after a kick to the face and Ali shot his shoulder off the mat and one where Alexander and Ali were going for a Double Superplex on Murphy, but Murphy and Ali both slipped off the turnbuckle. However, those little flubs didn’t stop Heart and Soul from pulling out a fantastic victory over the Body Guys, and Alexander put another foot on his road to his rematch.

Mike Kanellis and TJP vs Lucha House Party: The feud between LHP and Team Maria’s Minions has been raging for a few weeks with Maria promising to destroy LHP, though what exactly her problem is is still a mystery to me.

This week, though, Mike Kanellis wasn’t thinking too much about LHP, he was looking to use Scottish Supernova Noam Dar as a stepping stone. Unfortunately, Dar wasn’t in the mood to be stepped on and taught Kanellis a lesson in underestimating people.

Dar would pull out the victory with some help from LHP, who not only distracted Kanellis, but Kalisto got in a sneak kick to Kanellis’ nose in a little payback to help Dar win. Sauce for the goose is salsa for the gansos, boys.

Backstage, TJP, still thinking his win at the Cruiserweight Classic meant anything, was demanding to know why he hadn’t gotten a title shot. When Maverick pointed out that TJP hasn’t exactly been lighting the ring on fire and his one claim to fame was two years in the past, the petulant TJP mocked Maverick’s situation at Survivor Series.

To add to Maverick’s headache, the Kanellises came in complaining about the finish to Mike’s match with Dar.  Maria is done just trying to beat LHP, she wants to embarrass them. To shut everyone up, Maverick proposes a Tornado Match next week: LHP vs Mike Kanellis and TJP. Once that was agreed to, he told the who group to get lost, very politely of course.

Hideo Itami vs Levy Cruse: The Man Who Demands Respect is back and apparently didn’t learn his lesson after his defeat at the hands of Mustafa Ali. Itami brutalized poor Levy Cruse and got the pin, but continued to attack him. It looked like Ariya Daivari was coming to Cruse’s aid, but instead joined in the assault and then offered his hand to Itami in friendship, but it was clear that Itami smelled a rat. We’ll see where this goes.

Party of Gulak vs Brian Kendrick and Akira Tozawa: We finally had some life in the Gulak/Kendrick feud. It was revealed on Wednesday that Gulak and Kendrick will face off next week on 205 Live. Kendrick prepared by sparring with Tozawa and getting pushed by the Stamina Monster into losing his temper, while Gulak ran his mouth. Wednesday will be interesting.

NXT

NXT Championship: Tomaso Ciampa is the greatest thing since sliced bread and he has no problem letting everyone know that. The NXT Champ hasn’t been seen since his victory over Velveteen Dream at War Games, but don’t worry, the Blackheart will be back next week, so everyone had better be prepared.

NXT Women’s Division: Kairi Sane is still licking her wounds, and looking for revenge, after being robbed of the NXT Women’s Championship by Shayna Baszler and her friends. Fortunately, Sane has found some allies in her fight against the Queen of Spades: Best friend Io Shirai, and Dakota Kai. Kai has had her own issues with Baszler and is eager to take on the Queen and her court. Shirai is fighting for the honor of her best friend. Look out Baszler, you might’ve bitten off more than you can chew.

Candice LeRae’s public image might be the sweet All-American SoCal girl, but Mrs. Wrestling showed a surprising nasty streak in her match against Nikki Cross last week. However, LeRae refused to answer any questions about her actions or the actions of her husband when confronted by NXT interviewers. Is all not right in Ms. LeRae’s world?

Mia Yim vs Vanessa Borne: The Blasian Baddie may have taken the Mae Young Classic by storm, but she’s had some trouble on the NXT roster, after coming up short against Biance Belair last week. This week, Yim took on the Vision, Vanessa Borne.

Borne wasn’t impressed by Yim and showed it by not being a good sport and giving Yim a straight right hand that Yim made her pay for. Borne dominated much of the match, but made the mistake of running her mouth a little too much, which made opening for Yim, who gave her opponent a nice taste of Sole Food for the pin.

NXT Tag Team Division: Danny Burch is back from his quick visit to NXT UK and teamed up with long-time partner, Oney Lorcan to take on the Mighty.

This was a brutal match that was very back and forth. The Bald Brawlers may have been tough as nails, but the Mighty were no lightweights. However, the Brawlers would pull out a pinfall win, but the enraged Mighty pulled off a moral victory by beating the Brawlers up and leaving them in the ring, so take your pick who the real winner was.

EC3 vs Marcel Barthel: The One Percenter is back after his brutal beating at the hands of the Undisputed Era and he took on newcomer Marcel Barthel. This wasn’t much of a contest, though Barthel would dominate parts of it, there was no stopping EC3, who would put Barthel away with a neckbreaker for the pin.

After his victory, 3 got on the mic and addressed Undisputed Era. He wants Bobby Fish, JUST Bobby Fish. He’ll let the rest of Undisputed Era live, but Fish is going to pay for what happened before War Games.

Lars Sullivan vs Keith Lee: The Battle of the Behemoths was this week. Sullivan and Lee have been making names for themselves as unstoppable forces, and now it was time for them to meet up.

I wish I could say that this match exceeded my expectations, but it didn’t. I’m not a fan of either of these guys and wasn’t impressed by the match. Lee and Sullivan just couldn’t seem to gel in a way that made the match watchable, in my opinion. Sullivan would pull out the win, but that was it.

Chris King: Is Brock Lesnar Truly Retired?

Brock Lesnar WWE WrestleMania 42 Retirement

Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…

At WrestleMania 42, ‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar took off his boots and gloves following his loss to Oba Femi. Lesnar has done it all inside of his twenty-four-year career in professional wrestling. He’s a ten-time WWE Champion and former UFC Heavyweight Champion, and he’s one who ended The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania.

While Lesnar was in the ring, he was visibly overwhelmed with emotion and crying while he thanked the fans in his own way. The Beast even threw up an x to signal to Paul Heyman, his longtime friend and advocate, that this was not scripted and was real. There had been rumors that Lesnar and Oba were supposed to have a series of matches before everything went down at Mania.

‘The Career Killer’ Gunther was doing Heyman’s bidding as he faced Seth Rollins for a favor. For a while now since Gunther retired Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, the rumor has been Gunther was set to retire Lesnar in his hometown at this year’s SummerSlam event. There’s been no confirmation if Lesnar is truly retired, but on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, we saw Heyman talking with General Manager Nick Aldis. Later that night following Rhodes’ match against the debuting Ricky Saints, Gunther choked out the WWE Champion. Could this be the favor from Heyman?

I know in the world of professional wrestling we live by the mantra of “never say never,” but what if Lesnar is actually retired and this was WWE’s way of shutting down those rumors about Gunther and Lesnar? What if Gunther’s next program is chasing after the WWE title, and where is Randy Orton at in all of these plans? There are so many questions that need to be answered, hopefully soon!

Chris King: Defend The Intercontinental Championship At Backlash!

With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!

Penta WWE Intercontinental Championship WrestleMania 42

With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!

This year’s annual Backlash showcase is only a few days away, and while there are many big matches announced, one that definitely should be isn’t on the card. In my opinion, outside of Roman Reigns/Jacob Fatu and Seth Rollins/Bron Breakker, the Intercontinental Championship scene has been stellar over the last month.

Penta has been an excellent champion, especially after his triumphant title defense in a ladder match against JeVon Evans, Rusev, Dragon Lee, and the Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42. Their ladder match at Mania was one of the best that WWE has produced in a while.

The momentum never stopped, as on the post-Mania episode of Monday Night Raw, ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page made his debut and was quickly inserted into the Intercontinental title scene. Page had a fantastic showing against his longtime NXT rival Evans and picked up a big win in his debut match thanks to an assist from Rusev.

All Ego immediately joined forces with ‘The Bulgarian Brute’ Rusev, who was also vying for the Intercontinental Title in his own right. On this week’s episode of Raw, Page and Rusev defeated Evans and Penta. All Ego pinned the champion, making a huge statement and putting him one step closer to getting a title shot. For the past few weeks I’ve been anxiously waiting to see if WWE was going to add this incredible fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Championship, but it hasn’t happened yet.

As much as the WWE Universe enjoys witnessing great matches on free television, I truly believe all four superstars deserve the chance to showcase their talents on the PLE. While Penta has done a terrific job as the intercontinental champion, it’s time for a fresh face to hold the prestigious title. Page would make a great braggadocious heel that would help elevate the Intercontinental Championship to new heights!
