WWE News: Preview Tonight’s SmackDown Live & 205 Live (1/22/19)
A look at what’s happening tonight on SmackDown Live!
Now that Monday Night RAW is in the rear-view mirror (catch up with RAW with Mitchell’s Live Report), tonight brings us the final edition of WWE’s SmackDown Live before Sunday’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view.
Over the weekend, we heard of a number of things going down on tonight’s blue brand from the Intrust Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas including Rey Mysterio taking on Andrade in a rematch from last week, but this time around it will be 2/3 Falls (more on that here). Plus, Naomi will finally get the chance to get her hands on Mandy Rose and “snatch her bald” when they meet one-on-one (read more on that here).
Here’s what’s happening tonight on SmackDown Live, which airs at 8PM EST on the USA Network. As always, you can follow all the action with Mitchell’s Live Report and join the conversation with various members of The Chairshot on Twitter (@theCHAIRSHOTcom):
- Can Mr. McMahon keep order when AJ Styles & WWE Champion Daniel Bryan go face-to-face?
- Rey Mysterio looks to make up for his loss last week when he takes on Andrade in a 2/3 Falls Match
- The Miz attempts to keep momentum going for his team heading into Royal Rumble as he faces Cesaro
- The time for games is over when Mandy Rose goes one-on-one with Naomi
Immediately following SmackDown Live, WWE’s Cruiserweight Division takes over the WWE Network for 205 Live at 10PM EST. Here’s a look at what to expect when the purple brand hits the air:
- Aiden English joins 205 Live’s commentary team
- Buddy Murphy’s Royal Rumble challengers collide when Akira Tozawa, Hideo Itami and Kalisto face-off in a Triple Threat
While @WWE_MandyRose is still snoring and drooling on her pillow I’m out here promoting #sdlive tonight and talking hella trash about her to masses 😁 pic.twitter.com/DZzBek7FR2

Former WWE Star Reveals How Company Tests Wrestlers for an “Attitude Problem”
A former WWE star took to social media to explain, in brief, how WWE evaluates its talent to determine whether they have an “attitude problem.” The post offered a glimpse into the company’s behind-the-scenes vetting process, suggesting that behavior and professionalism are actively monitored during a wrestler’s time with the promotion.
While the explanation was limited, the revelation underscores WWE’s focus on maintaining locker-room culture and managing talent dynamics. Fans and industry observers may read the post as further evidence that character and conduct behind the curtain can be as consequential as in-ring performance.

WWE Backlash Match Sparks “Clone War” Debate in Wrestling Community
Wrestling fans and insiders are abuzz after a match at WWE Backlash was accused of “copycatting” a formula previously used by an independent wrestler, a situation some are calling a new “clone war” in the industry. The controversy highlights growing concerns about creative overlap between major promotions and the indie scene.
The debate raises questions about originality and recognition, with observers wondering whether mainstream companies should acknowledge or adapt indie ideas more transparently. As the story spreads, fans and performers alike are watching to see how promotions handle influence, credit, and creative borrowing moving forward.
