Joe brings his mucha lucha all encompassing update! What’s going on with wrestling south of the border?

CMLL

So here’s the news aficionados, CMLL held a press conference today informing us that we will be able to watch Homenaje a dos Leyenda in the United States, however, they never mentioned iPPV or not. So who knows? Perhaps they announce it when nobody knows on Twitter or Facebook. They like Facebook more, they’ll catch up on the Twitter game eventually. Well anyway, if it is on iPPV it’ll likely be 10 dollars or 9 dollars. If not then you can find it on Facebook or their website or Luchablog will have a link on Twitter. So the main event for the show will be the hair vs hair match between Niebla Roja and Angel de Oro taking on El Terrible and Bestia del Ring. Now logic would tell you the two young handsome guys with wonderful hair would beat the old guys but it’s CMLL so who knows. What we do know is Rush is at a Ring of Honor ppv so unless he’s Superman he won’t be able to get there to interfere, which is a big deal in how I see the match going down. LA Park is supposed to make an appearance and who knows what else he will do because he is finally booked for the Puebla show this Monday, and this one better not have technical difficulties. So LA Park is making his rounds again with CMLL. Interesting. Now CMLL doesn’t have to worry about fixing things for the United States audience because realistically, I don’t know how much they make on that market and if you’re flying to Arena Mexico you’re probably going out of your way to find things. Or you got me who will help ya out if I can. 🙂

Arena Puebla Show

Well I couldn’t watch this show but by all reports it wasn’t much of a show. Dragon Lee, Cavernario, and Mistico took on a heel Volador for some reason and Mephisto and Ephesto. The latter team one. That’s really it. As I said earlier, LA Park and his son will return next week in Puebla. I don’t believe Park has been back since either the Day of the Dead show or the Puebla show after.

Arena Mexico Tuesday

This show was okay. It beats watching Raw but I can’t say it beats watching New Japan. Mistico, Dragon Lee, and Diamante Azul took on Mephisto, Rey Bucanero, and a returning Mr. Niebla. The technicos team won in two falls. It was a big brawl basically. Atlantis, Audaz, and Stuka took on Hechicero, Kawato, and Felino. Audaz won with a cool flip into a hurricanrana. There was a lightning match with Black Panther and Universo 2000 in which Black Panther won.

Arena Mexico Last Friday/Next Friday Line Up

Caristico, Niebla Roja, and Angel de Oro faced Rush, El Terrible, and Bestia del Ring in the main event that just went two falls with DQ finishes. Rush cuts a promo which to me is irrelevant because he won’t be there, but I guess CMLL fans might not know that. Diamante Azul beat Gilbert el Bourica in a singles match two falls to three. It was an alright match, nothing to write home about. The team of Atlantis, Dragon Lee, and Valiente beat the Diamites; Sanson, Cuatrero, and Forastero. The top matches for Homeanje a dos Leyenda are, Niebla Roja and Angel de Oro face El Terrible and Bestia Del Ring in a hair vs hair match. Ultimo Guerrero, Euforia, and Gran Guerrero will defend their Trios Championship against Caristico, Volador Jr, and Dragon Lee. Now there’s a rumor that Volador might not be there but I guess we will see. Perhaps a certain LA Park could replace him? That would make the fans go crazy. And me too. Sanson, Cuatrero, and Forastero will take on Gilbert el Bourica, Cavernario, and Negro Casas. Interesting rudos vs rudos. That’s the top of the card. I believe a condensed hour version will air on Televisa the next day so if you live in Mexico, have at it.

AAA

Rey de Reyes

So on AAA’s facebook they’re teasing that Cody might have a surprise with him and on the recent Being the Elite I believe the Bucks alluded to working a match this weekend for the first time since Wrestle Kingdom so I can guess that means they’ll be at Rey de Reyes in some form. They’ve always wanted to work Mexico and it makes sense since the main event is for the tag team titles. Main event in which Pentagon and Fenix will face Texano and Rey Escorpion for the tag belts. Jeff Jarrett, Killer Kross, and La Mascara will face Psycho Clown, Maximo, and Mamba. So a guy on WWE’s creative team is working AAA on a show where AEW’s Cody and perhaps the Bucks will show up. Incredible. They have the Rey de Reyes tournament as well which will feature a bunch of wrestlers. The Reina de Reinas title will also be defended on the show along with the Mixed Tag Titles. I also saw a report on twitter that LA Park and Konnan spoke and perhaps Park could be making a return to AAA. He wants to be included in the Blue Demon Dr. Wagner match. Which AAA should want because Park can still work and so can Wagner but Demon? Not so much. It would probably draw better too because everyone knows Demon would likely win. Though Wagner probably loses in any scenario.

Here & There

There was a funny mishap with Ring of Honor. They messed up the Spanish spelling of Rush’s catchphrase for his official shirt which is being ripped by everyone. That mistake can NOT happen in a company that size. Just pathetic. Rush will be on the Anniversary card that I might check out if I have the time. A lot of stuff going on this weekend, CMLL, UFC, and AAA. MLW will have their show Saturday which I’ll check out on Sunday. Jim Cornette spoke on the tapings very favorably.

AAA will be live on Twitch, 8 o’clock local time, 10 Eastern I believe. CMLL starts at 8:30 local time, 10:30 for us…I think. Darn time switch confuses me.

Chris King: Is Brock Lesnar Truly Retired?

Brock Lesnar WWE WrestleMania 42 Retirement

Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…

At WrestleMania 42, ‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar took off his boots and gloves following his loss to Oba Femi. Lesnar has done it all inside of his twenty-four-year career in professional wrestling. He’s a ten-time WWE Champion and former UFC Heavyweight Champion, and he’s one who ended The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania.

While Lesnar was in the ring, he was visibly overwhelmed with emotion and crying while he thanked the fans in his own way. The Beast even threw up an x to signal to Paul Heyman, his longtime friend and advocate, that this was not scripted and was real. There had been rumors that Lesnar and Oba were supposed to have a series of matches before everything went down at Mania.

‘The Career Killer’ Gunther was doing Heyman’s bidding as he faced Seth Rollins for a favor. For a while now since Gunther retired Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, the rumor has been Gunther was set to retire Lesnar in his hometown at this year’s SummerSlam event. There’s been no confirmation if Lesnar is truly retired, but on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, we saw Heyman talking with General Manager Nick Aldis. Later that night following Rhodes’ match against the debuting Ricky Saints, Gunther choked out the WWE Champion. Could this be the favor from Heyman?

I know in the world of professional wrestling we live by the mantra of “never say never,” but what if Lesnar is actually retired and this was WWE’s way of shutting down those rumors about Gunther and Lesnar? What if Gunther’s next program is chasing after the WWE title, and where is Randy Orton at in all of these plans? There are so many questions that need to be answered, hopefully soon!

Chris King: Defend The Intercontinental Championship At Backlash!

With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!

Penta WWE Intercontinental Championship WrestleMania 42

With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!

This year’s annual Backlash showcase is only a few days away, and while there are many big matches announced, one that definitely should be isn’t on the card. In my opinion, outside of Roman Reigns/Jacob Fatu and Seth Rollins/Bron Breakker, the Intercontinental Championship scene has been stellar over the last month.

Penta has been an excellent champion, especially after his triumphant title defense in a ladder match against JeVon Evans, Rusev, Dragon Lee, and the Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42. Their ladder match at Mania was one of the best that WWE has produced in a while.

The momentum never stopped, as on the post-Mania episode of Monday Night Raw, ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page made his debut and was quickly inserted into the Intercontinental title scene. Page had a fantastic showing against his longtime NXT rival Evans and picked up a big win in his debut match thanks to an assist from Rusev.

All Ego immediately joined forces with ‘The Bulgarian Brute’ Rusev, who was also vying for the Intercontinental Title in his own right. On this week’s episode of Raw, Page and Rusev defeated Evans and Penta. All Ego pinned the champion, making a huge statement and putting him one step closer to getting a title shot. For the past few weeks I’ve been anxiously waiting to see if WWE was going to add this incredible fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Championship, but it hasn’t happened yet.

As much as the WWE Universe enjoys witnessing great matches on free television, I truly believe all four superstars deserve the chance to showcase their talents on the PLE. While Penta has done a terrific job as the intercontinental champion, it’s time for a fresh face to hold the prestigious title. Page would make a great braggadocious heel that would help elevate the Intercontinental Championship to new heights!
