Road Warrior Animal discusses managing and All Elite Wrestling!

WrestleMania weekend provided podcast journalists a year supply of interviews in one week.  One of the most credible of those, Hannibal TV interviewed the legendary Road Warrior Animal.  Attentive listeners can scrounge up some unofficial treasure from the legend’s exchange.

The interview starts by discussing the current professional wrestling scene and the benefits of competition.  The interview continues with the discussion on WrestleMania, his work with the NWA, and finally his connections with All Elite Wrestling.

The interviewer points out Animal’s relationships with Dusty and Cody Rhodes leading to the question.  Is there any chance Animal can join in a production or scout? Animal responded:

“I have been in communication with Matt Jackson, texting Cody, we’ve been talking about doing something together. I think down the line, I’ve talked to Billy Gunn about being an agent or associate producer.  I’d like to manage a tag team.  I don’t care what company, but hopefully AEW.”

Since the inception of All Elite Wrestling, the company has signed multiple young talents from within the independent scenes.  Very few have demonstrated the ability to cut promotions that engage the fans.  The presence of Animal to prepare these young talents for this aspect of the business would be critical as the young company takes its first steps.

Outside of Paul Heyman, Lana, and a select few; the era of wrestling managers died off decades ago.  2018 began the return of wrestling managers, therefore will require a few years to build up.  This makes bringing in experienced veterans to fill that critical role more important in the near term.

Manager’s are not random people bringing cheap heat upon their client.  They build the storyline according to their client’s perspective.  They also fill in the gaps in a story as well as helping to build up fan participation during matches.  Historically, Managers came from veteran wrestlers who used their experience to gauge the level of enthusiasm among the crowd.  If needed, built up that engagement through various antics, consequently bringing the fans back into the performance.  If you have ever criticized WWE for lack of storytelling, part of the issue comes from the lack of managers to build the bare bones concepts.
