Tiffany’s Takes: WWE Smackdown Live (5/28/19)
Is Tiffany more impressed with the WWE 24/7 Championship now?
Tiffany Takes is back to tackle last night’s edition of WWE Smackdown! Did it outshine Raw?
After a lacking RAW, will WWE Smackdown get its act together?
WWE Championship: So, RAW didn’t get to take up a half hour of SmackDown’s time for a promo segment between Rollins and Corbin, but we did get a hell of a Money in the Bank rematch. Kingston vs Owens FEELS like the kind of feud that could go on forever, and I hope it does because they have great matches and tell great stories. I honestly hope that KO is the one to take the title off of Kingston and NOT Mr. Money in the Bank, but I doubt that will happen, sadly, but I can’t help but wish.
24/7 Championship: On Monday, I’d expressed my concerns about the limitations of the 24/7 Championship and I was thrilled to see some of them addressed on Tuesday. Not only were the 24/7 Championship matches fun, but they were also made part of the bigger stories, which made it seem more legit. I have a feeling that R-Truth is going to become the Crash Holly of this…division, for those of you that remember the escapades of the late Crash Holly.
Roman Reigns vs Shane McMahon: This feud has been odd, but very fun. I know they’re trying to save the actual confrontation for Saudi Arabia, but at least we’re getting plenty of teases. It would be easy to make comparisons to Austin vs McMahon, but it’s not nearly as out of control as Austin/McMahon seemed to get sometimes.
The tag/handicap match was great and fun to watch and the fact that Roman got back at Shane for his interference and abuse of power by helping R-Truth regain the 24/7 Championship was hilarious and a sign of a good friend. I don’t like McIntyre, he’s as interesting as beige paint, but my back ached in sympathy after that missed Claymore Kick. Ouch. My sympathies to his chiropractor, if he has one.
Mandy Rose vs Carmella: I wish someone would decide if they’re going to have Rose and Deville feud and get on with it. Having Mandy Rose get a win over Carmella, even with help, was a joke. Carmella isn’t the best wrestler in the world, but she’s a lot better than Rose.
Bayley vs Lacey Evans: I LOVED this match! If nothing of any good came out of Bayley’s partnership with Sasha Banks, it was that it’s given Bayley more of an edge and it showed in this match. I loved her talking smack to Charlotte Flair after the win. However, I’m a little confused by the point of having, presumably, Charlotte and Evans feuding. Neither of them are babyfaces, so why have them turn on each other?
Smackdown Tag Team Championship: Can we hurry up and get the belts off of Bryan and Rowan? The Tag Team division in WWE has been lacking the past several months and I can’t say that Bryan and Rowan are making things better. I’m hoping Heavy Machinery are the ones to take the titles off the Greenjerks, but I’ll take just about anyone right now.
Balor vs Andrade: I’m actually excited about this match. Balor and Andrade have had several great matches and the one they’ll have in Saudi Arabia will be no different, so that will be a bright spot on tthe card.
Firefly Fun House: Good giggly-wiggly. Even the kids in the video were creeped out. I did enjoy the Fiend/Friend wordplay, but I’m getting really tired of these videos.
Super Show Down: I’m not sure what to make of Triple H vs Orton. It feels like Triple H is going on a farewell tour by taking on and beating the biggest rivals he had in his prime. At least Orton can still move.

Overall Thoughts on WWE Smackdown for 5/28/19
Well, that’s better. That was a show I actually wanted to watch for two hours. I thoroughly enjoyed that SmackDown. The storylines got moved forward and things started coming together for Super Show Down. I’m VERY happy that WWE learned from their total clusterfuck build of the regular PPVs and the overseas Network shows and AREN’T trying to build both shows at the same time. It makes the shows much less confusing.
I love R-Truth as 24/7 champ and hope he keeps going for awhile. I’m also happy that WWE is trying to make this title look more legit. Silly or not, it’s still a championship and should have some respect. That’s it for Tiffany’s Belated Takes for SmackDown. Stay tuned for 205 Live!

Chris King: Is Brock Lesnar Truly Retired?
Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…
Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…
At WrestleMania 42, ‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar took off his boots and gloves following his loss to Oba Femi. Lesnar has done it all inside of his twenty-four-year career in professional wrestling. He’s a ten-time WWE Champion and former UFC Heavyweight Champion, and he’s one who ended The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania.
While Lesnar was in the ring, he was visibly overwhelmed with emotion and crying while he thanked the fans in his own way. The Beast even threw up an x to signal to Paul Heyman, his longtime friend and advocate, that this was not scripted and was real. There had been rumors that Lesnar and Oba were supposed to have a series of matches before everything went down at Mania.
‘The Career Killer’ Gunther was doing Heyman’s bidding as he faced Seth Rollins for a favor. For a while now since Gunther retired Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, the rumor has been Gunther was set to retire Lesnar in his hometown at this year’s SummerSlam event. There’s been no confirmation if Lesnar is truly retired, but on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, we saw Heyman talking with General Manager Nick Aldis. Later that night following Rhodes’ match against the debuting Ricky Saints, Gunther choked out the WWE Champion. Could this be the favor from Heyman?
I know in the world of professional wrestling we live by the mantra of “never say never,” but what if Lesnar is actually retired and this was WWE’s way of shutting down those rumors about Gunther and Lesnar? What if Gunther’s next program is chasing after the WWE title, and where is Randy Orton at in all of these plans? There are so many questions that need to be answered, hopefully soon!

Chris King: Defend The Intercontinental Championship At Backlash!
With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!
With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!
This year’s annual Backlash showcase is only a few days away, and while there are many big matches announced, one that definitely should be isn’t on the card. In my opinion, outside of Roman Reigns/Jacob Fatu and Seth Rollins/Bron Breakker, the Intercontinental Championship scene has been stellar over the last month.
Penta has been an excellent champion, especially after his triumphant title defense in a ladder match against JeVon Evans, Rusev, Dragon Lee, and the Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42. Their ladder match at Mania was one of the best that WWE has produced in a while.
The momentum never stopped, as on the post-Mania episode of Monday Night Raw, ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page made his debut and was quickly inserted into the Intercontinental title scene. Page had a fantastic showing against his longtime NXT rival Evans and picked up a big win in his debut match thanks to an assist from Rusev.
All Ego immediately joined forces with ‘The Bulgarian Brute’ Rusev, who was also vying for the Intercontinental Title in his own right. On this week’s episode of Raw, Page and Rusev defeated Evans and Penta. All Ego pinned the champion, making a huge statement and putting him one step closer to getting a title shot. For the past few weeks I’ve been anxiously waiting to see if WWE was going to add this incredible fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Championship, but it hasn’t happened yet.
As much as the WWE Universe enjoys witnessing great matches on free television, I truly believe all four superstars deserve the chance to showcase their talents on the PLE. While Penta has done a terrific job as the intercontinental champion, it’s time for a fresh face to hold the prestigious title. Page would make a great braggadocious heel that would help elevate the Intercontinental Championship to new heights!
