The penultimate IMPACT before Slammiversary! Anything special get set up for the Go Home?

Rascalz look for some momentum, The North try to continue to look strong going into their title match.

Can Rosemary and Taya co-exist against James Mitchell’s goblins?

Also should be interesting to see what goes on with Eddie Edwards and the newly returned TJP!

Sometimes you need Australian Ticklebutt rules. But I suppose the old fashioned way still works…

Ratings:

  • The North vs The Deaners: The North win via Tandem Inverted Mat Slam – *** 1/4
  • Taya Valkyrie & Rosemary vs Havok & Su Yung: Ummm…Double Count Out? – **
  • Fallah Bahh w/Scarlett Bordeaux vs Sami Callihan w/Madman Fulton: Callihan wins via Draping Piledriver – ** 1/2
  • The Rascalz vs LAX & Laredo Kid: Trey wins via Diving Meteora – *** 1/4

Analysis:

We get a decent length opening tag match. The North recently earned a title shot at Bash at the Brewery, so if the Deaners pull the upset, who knows what that means. The Deaners looked damn good, they kept up nicely, but the North pulled off a few heel shortcuts and a bunch of tandem moves. A tandem Iconoclasm into the tandem Inverted Mat Slam finish was definitely interesting to see. Both teams looked solid, so I’m curious to see if the Deaners will get a legit shot eventually.

Then we get a somewhat cheesey segment promoting the tag match involving Rosemary, Taya, Havok and Su Yung. Check it out for yourself:

The Knockouts tag match was fun. It starts off with Rosemary and Taya arguing over who will start against Havok, Havok roars and hits a double clothesline, but the flashed to Taya and Rosemary right before the contact and it was a great “Oh shit” reaction from both of them. Ring work was okay, Su Yung and Havok aren’t really on the same page. It’s a weird situation when Taya and Rosemary seem to get along more than Su Yung and Havok. A little bit of a tussle after the Double Count Out, eventually the heels accidentally hit one another and James Mitchell has to calm down the “stable mates”.

Ace Austin does exactly what was expected, by saying he wasn’t ready. TJP grants him a rematch next week and throws shade at WWE by saying he had to stretch his legs cause he was chained in a basement for the last 3 years. The match should be fun for the Go Home show.

IMPACT Plus Flashback Moment: Monster’s Ball Mixed Tag: Taylor Wilde & Abyss vs Raven & Daffney, Slammiversary, June 21,2009 – It’s nice to hear Mike Tenay and Don West again.

Eddie has a vignette in a church, and then Kross appears. The Holy Ground Highlander reference and Kross basically playing up The Kurgan role from the first Highlander movie. This was great, corny, but being a Highlander dork, I popped. There can be only one.

Fallah has turned up the aggression since teaming with Scarlett, and it also looks like he’s lost a little weight. This was a solid match, Fallah looked quite competitive, but let his aggression get the best of him. Trying to do an Inside Out Suplex to the floor backfired and Callihan caught him in the ropes and then hit the Draping Piledriver.

After the match Sami calls out Tessa and there’s a fairly brutal beat down with the Crists and a baseball bat.

This six man match was fast paced and that crazy Indie style that people have grown to expect and enjoy. Big dives, combination moves, just general crazy stuff. Laredo Kid had a cool Triple Stacked 450 Splash on all of the Rascalz. Trey winning with the Meteora works nicely since that’s the move he hit while drunk to give the brief win to the Rascalz a few weeks ago. It also gives the challengers some good momentum since they pinned Ortiz.

Kiera Hogan and Madison Rayne have words in the segment after the match.

Brian Cage ignores the doctor, comes out to say he’s not afraid of Elgin and the normal fighting champion stuff. Elgin sneaks up on Cage and lays him out. 2 Elgin Bombs, sets up a table, Powerbombs Cage through the table from the ring. Elgin then goes on a rampage, strikes Don Callis, throws him into the ring, and is about to Elgin Bomb Callis as well. But Cage rises from the table wreckage, EMTs trying to tend to him, but we get the Rise of the Machine. Cage slides in saving Callis and a donnybrook ensues as the show ends.

Overall Score: 7.5/10

Pretty good show. We saw some good matches, a lot of story movement and getting over the point that Elgin is a beast, but Cage is a machine, was a cool way to end the show. Slammiversary does feel like it’s being built up as a big deal, which is better than I can say for some other shows.

Hopefully the Go Home is as strong as this one.

  • 6/21/2019 – LOW: 3,460/HIGH: 4,630
  • 6/28/2019 – LOW: 2,860/HIGH: 4,159

Well again, not sure if it’s because of the time of year, but the fact the views have dropped so drastically is definitely something. Wrestlers that people enjoy are positioned well through the card (I.E. Tessa, Rosemary, Brian Cage, LAX, Rascalz), yet still, the views don’t reflect the quality. This week was also officially the lowest range and general average of viewers that IMPACT has had since starting this simulcast. What a difference a few weeks make, sheesh.

Chris King: Is Brock Lesnar Truly Retired?

Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…

Brock Lesnar WWE WrestleMania 42 Retirement

Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…

At WrestleMania 42, ‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar took off his boots and gloves following his loss to Oba Femi. Lesnar has done it all inside of his twenty-four-year career in professional wrestling. He’s a ten-time WWE Champion and former UFC Heavyweight Champion, and he’s one who ended The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania.

While Lesnar was in the ring, he was visibly overwhelmed with emotion and crying while he thanked the fans in his own way. The Beast even threw up an x to signal to Paul Heyman, his longtime friend and advocate, that this was not scripted and was real. There had been rumors that Lesnar and Oba were supposed to have a series of matches before everything went down at Mania.

‘The Career Killer’ Gunther was doing Heyman’s bidding as he faced Seth Rollins for a favor. For a while now since Gunther retired Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, the rumor has been Gunther was set to retire Lesnar in his hometown at this year’s SummerSlam event. There’s been no confirmation if Lesnar is truly retired, but on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, we saw Heyman talking with General Manager Nick Aldis. Later that night following Rhodes’ match against the debuting Ricky Saints, Gunther choked out the WWE Champion. Could this be the favor from Heyman?

I know in the world of professional wrestling we live by the mantra of “never say never,” but what if Lesnar is actually retired and this was WWE’s way of shutting down those rumors about Gunther and Lesnar? What if Gunther’s next program is chasing after the WWE title, and where is Randy Orton at in all of these plans? There are so many questions that need to be answered, hopefully soon!

Chris King: Defend The Intercontinental Championship At Backlash!

With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!

Penta WWE Intercontinental Championship WrestleMania 42

With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!

This year’s annual Backlash showcase is only a few days away, and while there are many big matches announced, one that definitely should be isn’t on the card. In my opinion, outside of Roman Reigns/Jacob Fatu and Seth Rollins/Bron Breakker, the Intercontinental Championship scene has been stellar over the last month.

Penta has been an excellent champion, especially after his triumphant title defense in a ladder match against JeVon Evans, Rusev, Dragon Lee, and the Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42. Their ladder match at Mania was one of the best that WWE has produced in a while.

The momentum never stopped, as on the post-Mania episode of Monday Night Raw, ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page made his debut and was quickly inserted into the Intercontinental title scene. Page had a fantastic showing against his longtime NXT rival Evans and picked up a big win in his debut match thanks to an assist from Rusev.

All Ego immediately joined forces with ‘The Bulgarian Brute’ Rusev, who was also vying for the Intercontinental Title in his own right. On this week’s episode of Raw, Page and Rusev defeated Evans and Penta. All Ego pinned the champion, making a huge statement and putting him one step closer to getting a title shot. For the past few weeks I’ve been anxiously waiting to see if WWE was going to add this incredible fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Championship, but it hasn’t happened yet.

As much as the WWE Universe enjoys witnessing great matches on free television, I truly believe all four superstars deserve the chance to showcase their talents on the PLE. While Penta has done a terrific job as the intercontinental champion, it’s time for a fresh face to hold the prestigious title. Page would make a great braggadocious heel that would help elevate the Intercontinental Championship to new heights!
