Chris King: The R-Truth Shall Set You Free
R-Truth has become one of WWE’s most watched performers in 2019, but it’s really just the latest portion of a career full of high jinks and hilarity.
R-Truth has become one of WWE’s most watched performers in 2019, but it’s really just the latest portion of a career full of high jinks and hilarity.
It’s more like R-Truth will make you laugh your ass off! Truth believe it or not, has been wrestling for shade below twenty years. He has knocked every opportunity that he’s sunk his teeth into out of the park. Truth is widely known for his vibrant and hysterical personality, but he’s never had an issue turning up the volume on portraying an angry serious competitor. He’s currently the NINE-TIME 24/7 Champion, that kind of success doesn’t happen overnight. So let’s take a wild ride into the wacky brain of R-Truth!
R-Truth Debuts In WWE As K-KWIK
Truth made his WWE debut on November 13, 2000-edition of Monday Night Raw is War under the moniker of “K-Kwik”. Truth rushed down to aid Road Dogg during his one-on-one match with William Regal. Shortly after Truth and Road Dogg began a partnership, and the dynamic duo began rapping to a signature piece of theirs titled “Getting Rowdy”.
Truth participated in a traditional four-on-four survivor series match; alongside the mini-version of D-Generation X, (Road Dogg, Billy Gunn, and Chyna) vs. The Radicalz (Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, and Perry Saturn). Unfortunately, Road Dogg was suspended by the company and would be released from his contract in January of 2001. Truth would defeat Raven for the Hardcore Championship but, would lose it immediately to Crash Holly under 24/7 rules. Hmmm, sounds extremely similar to his current position in WWE. In 2002, Truth would be released by WWE.Truth spent six years in TNA where we won tag team Championships, as well as making history as the fourth African-American World Heavyweight Champion. He left TNA as a two-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion. In 2008 he would make his return to WWE.
The Truth, The Whole Truth And Nothing But The R-Truth
Truth would make his re-debut on August 29, 2008- edition of Smackdown under his dubbed name R-Truth where he defeated Kenny Dykstra. Unfortunately for him, he got lost in the shuffle and would not be involved in any meaningful feuds.Fast Forward to February 2010, Truth had his first World Heavyweight Championship match at 2010 Elimination Chamber. Where the World Heavyweight Champion The Undertaker defended his title against Jericho, John Morrison, Rey Mysterio, CM Punk and himself. Truth would celebrate another first a month later at WrestleMania XXVI, where he would join forces with Morrison. The duo would challenge ShoMiz (The Miz and Big Show), for the Unified Tag Team Championships in a losing effort. Later that year; on May 24, 2010-edition of Raw Truth would win his championship since her return to WWE, where he would topple Miz to claim the vacated United States Championship. He would lose the US title a few weeks after; he would invoke his rematch clause at 2010 Fatal-4-Way where he both competitors would put on a great performance, but the wily Miz would reverse Truth to get the pin to keep the title. At 2010 SummerSlam in the main event, The Nexus (Wade Barrett, Justin Gabriel, Heath Slater, David Otunga, Skip Sheffield, Michael Tarver and Darren Young) faced Team WWE (John Cena, Edge, Chris Jericho, Bret Hart, R-Truth, John Morrison and Daniel Bryan) in a 7-on-7 elimination tag team match. In 2011, Truth would have an incredible year.
On April 11, 2011-edition of Raw; both R-Truth and John Cena would be named number-one contenders for the WWE Championship at Extreme Rules via double disqualification, after Miz and Alex Riley attacked them during a number-one contender’s gauntlet match. On the following week’s Raw, Truth’s former tag team partner Morrison would doubt his ability to compete for the richest prize in the industry. They would face each other, in a one-on-one contest where Morrison would take his spot. Immediately after the match, Truth ruthlessly attacked him turning him heel.
One week later; Truth would give a scathing promo to the WWE Universe unloading years of frustrations, for being overlooked and not receiving championships. He vowed to stop captivating the audience. At Extreme Rules in the main event, Truth prevented Morrison from escaping the cage and ultimately cost him the WWE title. After a short feud with Mysterio, claiming that he was robbing him of the WWE championship. Their blow-off match with occur at Over the Limit pay-per-view where Truth would get the victory. Truth became incensed and relentless; in his pursuit over the WWE title, and his jealousy for Cena’s success.

On May 30, 2011-edition of Raw; after a count out victory over Cena, R-Truth would get into a scuffle with a little boy and his on-screen father where Truth threw a soda in the father’s face. Per the Anonymous Raw General Manager; Truth would finally get his one-on-one WWE championship match at Capitol Punishment, as long as he publicly apologized for his disgusting actions. On June 6, 2011-edition of Raw; Truth interrupted Stone Cold Steve Austin and the CEO of WWE Vince McMahon in the most humorous and entertaining manner, cosplayed in a Confederate soldier uniform singing a song dubbed “Little Jimmy” to describe all the kids in the crowd.

I believe this was the first time we got to witness a “gimmick” that would tailor to his charismatic and amusing personality for years to come.At 2011 Capitol Punishment Truth was put to the ultimate test against long-time workhorse and then-WWE champion Cena in the main event for the WWE title. Despite not winning the championship, Truth shined and impressed in the first one-on-one championship contest of his WWE tenure.
Awesome Truth Takeover WWE
In the summer of 2011, Miz and Truth joined forces under the name “Awesome Truth”; and wreaked havoc on pay-per-views, and interrupting WWE championship matches, with both rebels believing there was a “conspiracy” preventing Truth and Miz from gaining championship opportunities. This feud would culminate into a HUGE tag team match pitting Truth and Miz vs. the recently returned “People’s Champion” The Rock and his WrestleMania XXVIII opponent Cena at the 25th Anniversary of Survivor Series.https://youtu.be/EopoVZZiOZwIn my personal opinion, I believe this year assisted Truth morphing into the loveable and comedic character we’ve come to admire.
The Highlight Reel Of R-Truth’s Most Memorable Moments in WWE
On May 20, 2019-edition of Raw; WWE legend Mick Foley unveiled the Brand-new 24/7 Championship, which was reminiscent of the Hardcore Championship back in the Attitude Era.
Where the title can be defended anytime or anywhere that a WWE official is present to count the pinfall. Almost immediately; the WWE Universe hated with a passion for the appearance of the title, and the silliness of multiple champions being crowned within a matter of minutes. However each passing week; Truth has elevated the 24/7 title with his ridiculous antics to dodge the flood of superstars chasing after him, with the hope of becoming the next 24/7 champion. While there have been other 24/7 champions; almost every episode of Raw and SmackDown Live ends in the same manner with R-Truth and his partner in crime Carmella, fleeing the scene and escaping with his coveted prize.Let’s go back a few weeks ago when 205 Live General Manager Drake Maverick began hunting for Truth to win the 24/7 Championship in perfect time for his real-life wedding day. On the Raw before his wedding; Maverick cleverly outsmarted Truth cosplayed with a wig to resemble Carmella, rolled him up and won the 24/7 Championship. In the most shocking turn of events, Truth crashed Maverick’s big day and won back the title.
On this past week’s Raw, we experienced a very special 24/7 Edition of Miz TV where R-Truth and Maverick were allotted a good amount of television time. They competed in an impromptu match, that only lasted under a minute when Truth retained his 24/7 title.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; that with the right superstar holding the 24/7 Championship it could become meaningful, and that’s exactly what we are seeing here. Truth has taken a terrible concept and transformed it into one of the most entertaining segments every week.

I believe the next step is for R-Truth and Maverick to receive more airtime to have a “real” one-on-one contest, and hopefully one day we shall see the WWE 24/7 Championship defended on pay-per-view!

Chris King: Is Brock Lesnar Truly Retired?
Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…
Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…
At WrestleMania 42, ‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar took off his boots and gloves following his loss to Oba Femi. Lesnar has done it all inside of his twenty-four-year career in professional wrestling. He’s a ten-time WWE Champion and former UFC Heavyweight Champion, and he’s one who ended The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania.
While Lesnar was in the ring, he was visibly overwhelmed with emotion and crying while he thanked the fans in his own way. The Beast even threw up an x to signal to Paul Heyman, his longtime friend and advocate, that this was not scripted and was real. There had been rumors that Lesnar and Oba were supposed to have a series of matches before everything went down at Mania.
‘The Career Killer’ Gunther was doing Heyman’s bidding as he faced Seth Rollins for a favor. For a while now since Gunther retired Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, the rumor has been Gunther was set to retire Lesnar in his hometown at this year’s SummerSlam event. There’s been no confirmation if Lesnar is truly retired, but on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, we saw Heyman talking with General Manager Nick Aldis. Later that night following Rhodes’ match against the debuting Ricky Saints, Gunther choked out the WWE Champion. Could this be the favor from Heyman?
I know in the world of professional wrestling we live by the mantra of “never say never,” but what if Lesnar is actually retired and this was WWE’s way of shutting down those rumors about Gunther and Lesnar? What if Gunther’s next program is chasing after the WWE title, and where is Randy Orton at in all of these plans? There are so many questions that need to be answered, hopefully soon!

Chris King: Defend The Intercontinental Championship At Backlash!
With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!
With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!
This year’s annual Backlash showcase is only a few days away, and while there are many big matches announced, one that definitely should be isn’t on the card. In my opinion, outside of Roman Reigns/Jacob Fatu and Seth Rollins/Bron Breakker, the Intercontinental Championship scene has been stellar over the last month.
Penta has been an excellent champion, especially after his triumphant title defense in a ladder match against JeVon Evans, Rusev, Dragon Lee, and the Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42. Their ladder match at Mania was one of the best that WWE has produced in a while.
The momentum never stopped, as on the post-Mania episode of Monday Night Raw, ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page made his debut and was quickly inserted into the Intercontinental title scene. Page had a fantastic showing against his longtime NXT rival Evans and picked up a big win in his debut match thanks to an assist from Rusev.
All Ego immediately joined forces with ‘The Bulgarian Brute’ Rusev, who was also vying for the Intercontinental Title in his own right. On this week’s episode of Raw, Page and Rusev defeated Evans and Penta. All Ego pinned the champion, making a huge statement and putting him one step closer to getting a title shot. For the past few weeks I’ve been anxiously waiting to see if WWE was going to add this incredible fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Championship, but it hasn’t happened yet.
As much as the WWE Universe enjoys witnessing great matches on free television, I truly believe all four superstars deserve the chance to showcase their talents on the PLE. While Penta has done a terrific job as the intercontinental champion, it’s time for a fresh face to hold the prestigious title. Page would make a great braggadocious heel that would help elevate the Intercontinental Championship to new heights!
