The final IMPACT before Slammiversary! Do we see any big shake ups? Crazy developments?

The final IMPACT before Slammiversary! Do we see any big shake ups? Crazy developments?

Well Impact Wrestling did something different, they had an Impact+ special Bash at the Brewery finishing up as IMPACT started.

So the general fallout from these usually isn’t anything to worry about, but tonight was different.

The North, defeated LAX to win the Tag Team Championships! This makes the Slammiversary match a bit of a question mark. The North vs The Rascalz? Triple Threat? Guess we’ll find out.

But first, listen to Ethan Page.

Ratings:

  • Ace Austin vs TJP: TJP wins via Knee Bar – *** 1/4
  • Kiera Hogan vs Madison Rayne: Hogan wins via Face the Music – ** 3/4
  • Rohit Raju vs Laredo Kid: Rohit wins via Dragon Stomp – ** 1/2
  • Trey vs Dez vs Wentz: Dez & Wentz win via Hot Fire Flame – *** 1/2
  • Johnny Impact & John E. Bravo vs Rich Swann & Willie Mack: Swann wins via Phoenix Splash – ***

Analysis:

We got about 15 minutes for this match and it was a damn good back and forth. If their first meeting was a nice way to say TJP is back, this showcased his moveset well. Showed that he has high flying abilities mixed in with technical prowess. He still lacks charisma and would be better served behind a mask, but his matches are usually pretty solid.

Jordynne Grace is out on commentary to keep an eye on Kiera, and that continues their storyline with lots of tension, jawing and heel tactics from Kiera. Madison nearly does the same thing to Kiera that she did to Jordynne the previous week, but Kiera manages to counter the CrossRayne and hit her Fisherman Neckbreaker Hold. Match was fine, but the storyline movement helps it all along.

Deaners decide to prank Desi Hit Squad:

IMPACT+ Flashback Moment: Jeff Hardy vs Matt Hardy, Slammiversary, June 12, 2016

Laredo Kid has had a bit of exposure the last couple weeks between IMPACT and AEW. Shortly after the match started, the bottom rope broke and the match continued. It didn’t seem to make a big difference, it was just noticeably awkward. Gama and Raj climb onto the apron to cause multiple distractions, which caused Laredo to miss the Corkscrew Moonsault. Rohit takes advantage of that, softens up Laredo and hits a Diving Footstomp to Laredo’s back while he’s doubled over. Alright match, just the rope break and the interference took away a little.

Rascalz face off to find out which 2 are vying for the tag championships at Slammiversary. After a fast paced Junior Heavyweight style match, we get a finish. Match was fun, lots of interesting moves, but Dez and Wentz dodge Trey’s attempt to finish the match and hit a few tandem moves and then their tag team finish Hot Fire Flame.

Well John E. Bravo was obviously not to be taken seriously, but the match was still decent enough. Bravo ate the pin and Johnny actually looked really good. The fact that he was basically one versus two, he held his own and it wasn’t until Swann and Mack found an opening to keep him out of the ring, that they won.

The show ends with Jake Crist and Sami having a little party on the roof. Sami makes mention that Dave should be back by now since he just sent him to go chain up Fulton, but Dave comes flying across the table. Tessa appears with a baseball bat and quite angry. She’s about to break off a beer bottle in Sami’s ass, but Jake recovers and holds her back. Right before Sami hits Tessa with a bat of his own, she low blows Jake, grabs her bat, ducks Sami’s attempt and lays him out.

Overall Score: 6.5/10

We get a pretty decent go home. Granted there were a lot of video packages to fill the time, but the matches we did get were pretty good. With the early information about The North winning the tag titles makes for an interesting twist, but it also made the information being communicated during the show heavily incorrect.

Don’t get me wrong, these collaborative shows should occasionally have a title change. Same thing as WWE with house shows. If you prove that it’s not 100% predictable, it may increase general interest.

The show did come off a little flat with none of the bigger names having any inclusion until the end, but it was still enjoyable.

Twitch Views:

  • 5/3/2019 – LOW: 4,000/HIGH 6,550
  • 5/10/2019 – LOW: 3,800/HIGH: 7,130
  • 5/17/2019 – LOW: 6,900/HIGH: 12,220
  • 5/24/2019 – LOW: 5,200/HIGH: 10,070
  • 5/31/2019 – LOW: 4,550/HIGH: 8,075
  • 6/7/2019 – LOW: 7,100/HIGH: 13,606
  • 6/14/2019 – LOW: 3,400/HIGH: 8,250
  • 6/21/2019 – LOW: 3,460/HIGH: 4,630
  • 6/28/2019 – LOW: 2,860/HIGH: 4,159
  • 7/5/2019 – LOW: 4,820/HIGH: 7,120

Jesus tap dancing Christ, it looks like things have finally returned to normal…kinda. The array is more what we’ve grown accustomed to, but for a change the first hour spiked the viewership and the second hour kept sliding down to the LOW number. So whereas IMPACT tends to gain Twitch viewers as the night goes on, tonight was more the WWE model.

I guess it’s nice to see the totals weren’t as abysmal as the last few weeks, but the second hour slide is awkward.

Chris King: Is Brock Lesnar Truly Retired?

Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…

Brock Lesnar WWE WrestleMania 42 Retirement

Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…

At WrestleMania 42, ‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar took off his boots and gloves following his loss to Oba Femi. Lesnar has done it all inside of his twenty-four-year career in professional wrestling. He’s a ten-time WWE Champion and former UFC Heavyweight Champion, and he’s one who ended The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania.

While Lesnar was in the ring, he was visibly overwhelmed with emotion and crying while he thanked the fans in his own way. The Beast even threw up an x to signal to Paul Heyman, his longtime friend and advocate, that this was not scripted and was real. There had been rumors that Lesnar and Oba were supposed to have a series of matches before everything went down at Mania.

‘The Career Killer’ Gunther was doing Heyman’s bidding as he faced Seth Rollins for a favor. For a while now since Gunther retired Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, the rumor has been Gunther was set to retire Lesnar in his hometown at this year’s SummerSlam event. There’s been no confirmation if Lesnar is truly retired, but on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, we saw Heyman talking with General Manager Nick Aldis. Later that night following Rhodes’ match against the debuting Ricky Saints, Gunther choked out the WWE Champion. Could this be the favor from Heyman?

I know in the world of professional wrestling we live by the mantra of “never say never,” but what if Lesnar is actually retired and this was WWE’s way of shutting down those rumors about Gunther and Lesnar? What if Gunther’s next program is chasing after the WWE title, and where is Randy Orton at in all of these plans? There are so many questions that need to be answered, hopefully soon!

Chris King: Defend The Intercontinental Championship At Backlash!

With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!

Penta WWE Intercontinental Championship WrestleMania 42

With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!

This year’s annual Backlash showcase is only a few days away, and while there are many big matches announced, one that definitely should be isn’t on the card. In my opinion, outside of Roman Reigns/Jacob Fatu and Seth Rollins/Bron Breakker, the Intercontinental Championship scene has been stellar over the last month.

Penta has been an excellent champion, especially after his triumphant title defense in a ladder match against JeVon Evans, Rusev, Dragon Lee, and the Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42. Their ladder match at Mania was one of the best that WWE has produced in a while.

The momentum never stopped, as on the post-Mania episode of Monday Night Raw, ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page made his debut and was quickly inserted into the Intercontinental title scene. Page had a fantastic showing against his longtime NXT rival Evans and picked up a big win in his debut match thanks to an assist from Rusev.

All Ego immediately joined forces with ‘The Bulgarian Brute’ Rusev, who was also vying for the Intercontinental Title in his own right. On this week’s episode of Raw, Page and Rusev defeated Evans and Penta. All Ego pinned the champion, making a huge statement and putting him one step closer to getting a title shot. For the past few weeks I’ve been anxiously waiting to see if WWE was going to add this incredible fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Championship, but it hasn’t happened yet.

As much as the WWE Universe enjoys witnessing great matches on free television, I truly believe all four superstars deserve the chance to showcase their talents on the PLE. While Penta has done a terrific job as the intercontinental champion, it’s time for a fresh face to hold the prestigious title. Page would make a great braggadocious heel that would help elevate the Intercontinental Championship to new heights!
