Greg DeMarco presents the 10/10/19 edition of The Chairshot Power Rankings! With a huge WWE Smackdown debut on FOX, a PPV, and the Wednesday Night War, who has the momentum?
Each week, I bring you my Power Rankings in Top 5 form. What can you measure with a “Power Ranking?” The answer is simple: power. Power here is defined as momentum, who got the big wins, and who is on an upward trajectory after this week. Each week is different, and the landscape of professional wrestling (and sports entertainment) can change in an instant. Thus, the weekly rankings will change with it.
Last week’s rankings:
- Adam Cole
- Rush
- PAC
- Hana Kimura
- Shayna Baszler
Why? Take a look at last week’s Chairshot Power Rankings to find out!
Greg DeMarco’s Power Rankings: week of 10/3/19 – 10/9/19
1. Becky Lynch
These lists have been headlined by the brightest stars outside of Raw and Smackdown, but Becky Lynch was undeniable this week. Just take a look at what she did: kicked off Smackdown on FOX with The Rock, defeating Sasha Banks in the second ever women’s Hell In A Cell, and helping reestablish Asuka and Kairi Sane. The Raw Women’s Champion is white hot headed into Friday’s WWE Draft, where I expect her to join the Smackdown brand.
Next up: Friday’s WWE Draft will be very telling, as it can determine the future of both the second biggest star in WWE, and Raw’s Women’s Champion.
2. Charlotte Flair
Not to be outdone, WWE’s resident Queen comes in at #2. In an expected turn of events, Charlotte Flair defeated Bayley to capture her tenth women’s championship in WWE, this one being the Smackdown Women’s Championship. The win puts Charlotte Flair into legendary status, which no responsible fan can ignore.
Next up: Much like her fiery colleague at #1, Charlotte Flair readies herself for the WWE Draft kicking off Friday on Smackdown.
3. Nick Aldis
On the universally praised debut edition of NWA Power, Nick Aldis retained his NWA World’s Heavyweight Championship in a main event win over Tim Storm. This was easily the most appropriate way to kick off the new show, and kick off also describes Aldis’ other duty on that night. Aldis served as the first wrestler to appear, establishing the entire brand in his promo with David Marquez. The NWA, and it’s World’s Heavyweight Championship, are in very good hands.
Next up: Aldis continues his reign atop the NWA, awaiting the next challenger for his Ten Pounds Of Gold.
4. Lio Rush
Lio Rush made an unexpected return to NXT on the second half of its debut episode on the USA Network, defeating Oney Lorcan to earn a shot at the NXT Cruiserweight Championship. This week, he went toe-to-toe with Drew Gulak, and captured that very same championship. From a man on the outs with WWE to a champion, Lio Rush’s redemption story is now complete.
Next up: Rush stands atop a brand in a state of transition, but he has the talent–and the charisma–to carry it wherever Adam Pearce, Drake Maverick, and Triple H take it.
5. Darby Allin
Darby Allin and Jimmy Havoc found themselves in a unique position, battling each other on AEW Dynamite for the chance to challenge AEW World Champion Chris Jericho on next week’s live broadcast. Neither really had the record to support this, but the match was official and Allin came out on top.
Next up: Darby Allin turns right around to challenge Chris Jericho in 6-days (from publish time) on AEW Dynamite.
Missing The Cut
- The Kabuki Warriors (Asuka & Kairi Sane) – Won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, and beat Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch on Raw. You can argue for them above Allin, but the use of the Women’s Tag Team Championship makes them a “wait-and-see” proposition.
- Tyson Fury – Not a wrestler, but he was a huge part of WWE’s two biggest shows of the week.
- Chris Jericho & The Inner Circle – Quickly becoming AEW’s hottest act, but it remains to be seen how long fans will accept the NWO style beatdown ending Dynamite each week. A win over Allin next week likely puts him in the Top 5, interference or not.
- Brock Lesnar – Won the WWE Championship, but immediately went back into hiding.
Missing The Cut is listed in no particular order.

Chris King: Is Brock Lesnar Truly Retired?
Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…
Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…
At WrestleMania 42, ‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar took off his boots and gloves following his loss to Oba Femi. Lesnar has done it all inside of his twenty-four-year career in professional wrestling. He’s a ten-time WWE Champion and former UFC Heavyweight Champion, and he’s one who ended The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania.
While Lesnar was in the ring, he was visibly overwhelmed with emotion and crying while he thanked the fans in his own way. The Beast even threw up an x to signal to Paul Heyman, his longtime friend and advocate, that this was not scripted and was real. There had been rumors that Lesnar and Oba were supposed to have a series of matches before everything went down at Mania.
‘The Career Killer’ Gunther was doing Heyman’s bidding as he faced Seth Rollins for a favor. For a while now since Gunther retired Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, the rumor has been Gunther was set to retire Lesnar in his hometown at this year’s SummerSlam event. There’s been no confirmation if Lesnar is truly retired, but on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, we saw Heyman talking with General Manager Nick Aldis. Later that night following Rhodes’ match against the debuting Ricky Saints, Gunther choked out the WWE Champion. Could this be the favor from Heyman?
I know in the world of professional wrestling we live by the mantra of “never say never,” but what if Lesnar is actually retired and this was WWE’s way of shutting down those rumors about Gunther and Lesnar? What if Gunther’s next program is chasing after the WWE title, and where is Randy Orton at in all of these plans? There are so many questions that need to be answered, hopefully soon!

Chris King: Defend The Intercontinental Championship At Backlash!
With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!
With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!
This year’s annual Backlash showcase is only a few days away, and while there are many big matches announced, one that definitely should be isn’t on the card. In my opinion, outside of Roman Reigns/Jacob Fatu and Seth Rollins/Bron Breakker, the Intercontinental Championship scene has been stellar over the last month.
Penta has been an excellent champion, especially after his triumphant title defense in a ladder match against JeVon Evans, Rusev, Dragon Lee, and the Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42. Their ladder match at Mania was one of the best that WWE has produced in a while.
The momentum never stopped, as on the post-Mania episode of Monday Night Raw, ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page made his debut and was quickly inserted into the Intercontinental title scene. Page had a fantastic showing against his longtime NXT rival Evans and picked up a big win in his debut match thanks to an assist from Rusev.
All Ego immediately joined forces with ‘The Bulgarian Brute’ Rusev, who was also vying for the Intercontinental Title in his own right. On this week’s episode of Raw, Page and Rusev defeated Evans and Penta. All Ego pinned the champion, making a huge statement and putting him one step closer to getting a title shot. For the past few weeks I’ve been anxiously waiting to see if WWE was going to add this incredible fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Championship, but it hasn’t happened yet.
As much as the WWE Universe enjoys witnessing great matches on free television, I truly believe all four superstars deserve the chance to showcase their talents on the PLE. While Penta has done a terrific job as the intercontinental champion, it’s time for a fresh face to hold the prestigious title. Page would make a great braggadocious heel that would help elevate the Intercontinental Championship to new heights!
