Tiffany’s AEW Take: Who Should the Champions Face at Double or Nothing Part 2: The Contestants Gather
Tiffany’s Takes keeps tabs on the title scene in AEW as the company builds the card for Double Or Nothing.
Tiffany’s Takes keeps tabs on the title scene in AEW as the company builds the card for Double Or Nothing.
On Monday, I broke down the potential candidates for each of the champions, except for the TNT Championship, who I thought would be chosen, and who I wanted to be chosen. Now, we’re post Dynamite and it’s time to see how the title picture for Double or Nothing is shaping up.
AEW World Championship
Jon Moxley met Frankie Kazarian in a non-title match. This match was a little awkward in spots, but it was AMAZING! Can we get this as an ACTUAL feud? Mox is someone that needs great opponents to really shine. However, the next contestant wasn’t hard to find. Mr. Brodie Lee, the leader of the Dark Order, sent in his goons to attack Mox and then let it be known that he was coming for the title. Calling Mox a ‘Fatherless boy from Cincinnati’ and deriding him personally and professionally. Mox’s response? ‘All you had to do was ask.’ So, the main event of Double or Nothing will be: Jon Moxley vs Brodie Lee for the AEW Championship. Buckle your seatbelts.
I’m a little curious to see where Jericho ends up in this. He’s still owed a rematch that has never been cashed due to the shutdown.
AEW TNT Championship
Well, we know who will be facing off for the TNT Championship, but Brandi Rhodes had plenty to say about Jake Roberts and Lance Archer. Calling out Roberts’ age old tactics of intimidation, Brandi warned Roberts that what worked on Miss Elizabeth in 1991 wouldn’t work on her, and if he hit her, she’d hit back.
Turns out, Jake Roberts didn’t need to lay a hand Brandi to get his point across, Brandi found herself the target of Britt Baker and Penelope Ford. Baker DDT’d Brandi and then threw her into the ring where Roberts put his trademarked snake on her. Statement. Made.
AEW Women’s Championship
The Native Beast is back! Despite not having a match advertised, Nyla was large and in charge. Rose minced no words about her contempt for the other women in the division, and then DESTROYED the poor girl that was working with her.
No one stepped up tonight, but it’s looking like we’ll get the answer next week on who will be facing Nyla Rose. Britt Baker, Kris Statlander, Hikaru Shida, and Penelope Ford will be facing off next week in a fatal four way match.
AEW World Tag Team Championship
I said in an earlier post that the Tag Team Division of AEW had been SERIOUSLY hampered by the shutdown, and while it looks like things are going to improve, Hangman Page is still in Virginia, which left Kenny Omega turning to Matt Hardy to help him face Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara.
Match was FABULOUS! Matt Hardy is DETERMINED to prove that he’s just as valuable in his 40s as he was in his 20s because Team Xtreme Matt Hardy made his return and my inner 90s teenage wrestling fan was FREAKING OUT! She also freaked out over AEW going full 90s/00s WWE Hardcore Division with this tag match.
Well, it LOOKS like Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara have punched themselves and Tag Title bout after winning the match.
Double Or Nothing Lower Card
We got some idea of what the rest of the Double or Nothing card is going to look like: MJF vs Jungle Boy. MJF was NOT happy about being forced to work while ‘injured’ with a hangnail that has somehow messed up his neck.
AEW will also be hosting its first MitB style ladder match at Double or Nothing. Same principle: You climb the ladder, get the briefcase, or whatever they use, you get a title shot at the champ. Works for me.
Darby Allin was apparently still smarting from last week’s loss and didn’t feel like chatting. It’ll be interesting to see who he faces at Double or Nothing.

Chris King: Is Brock Lesnar Truly Retired?
Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…
Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…
At WrestleMania 42, ‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar took off his boots and gloves following his loss to Oba Femi. Lesnar has done it all inside of his twenty-four-year career in professional wrestling. He’s a ten-time WWE Champion and former UFC Heavyweight Champion, and he’s one who ended The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania.
While Lesnar was in the ring, he was visibly overwhelmed with emotion and crying while he thanked the fans in his own way. The Beast even threw up an x to signal to Paul Heyman, his longtime friend and advocate, that this was not scripted and was real. There had been rumors that Lesnar and Oba were supposed to have a series of matches before everything went down at Mania.
‘The Career Killer’ Gunther was doing Heyman’s bidding as he faced Seth Rollins for a favor. For a while now since Gunther retired Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, the rumor has been Gunther was set to retire Lesnar in his hometown at this year’s SummerSlam event. There’s been no confirmation if Lesnar is truly retired, but on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, we saw Heyman talking with General Manager Nick Aldis. Later that night following Rhodes’ match against the debuting Ricky Saints, Gunther choked out the WWE Champion. Could this be the favor from Heyman?
I know in the world of professional wrestling we live by the mantra of “never say never,” but what if Lesnar is actually retired and this was WWE’s way of shutting down those rumors about Gunther and Lesnar? What if Gunther’s next program is chasing after the WWE title, and where is Randy Orton at in all of these plans? There are so many questions that need to be answered, hopefully soon!

Chris King: Defend The Intercontinental Championship At Backlash!
With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!
With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!
This year’s annual Backlash showcase is only a few days away, and while there are many big matches announced, one that definitely should be isn’t on the card. In my opinion, outside of Roman Reigns/Jacob Fatu and Seth Rollins/Bron Breakker, the Intercontinental Championship scene has been stellar over the last month.
Penta has been an excellent champion, especially after his triumphant title defense in a ladder match against JeVon Evans, Rusev, Dragon Lee, and the Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42. Their ladder match at Mania was one of the best that WWE has produced in a while.
The momentum never stopped, as on the post-Mania episode of Monday Night Raw, ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page made his debut and was quickly inserted into the Intercontinental title scene. Page had a fantastic showing against his longtime NXT rival Evans and picked up a big win in his debut match thanks to an assist from Rusev.
All Ego immediately joined forces with ‘The Bulgarian Brute’ Rusev, who was also vying for the Intercontinental Title in his own right. On this week’s episode of Raw, Page and Rusev defeated Evans and Penta. All Ego pinned the champion, making a huge statement and putting him one step closer to getting a title shot. For the past few weeks I’ve been anxiously waiting to see if WWE was going to add this incredible fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Championship, but it hasn’t happened yet.
As much as the WWE Universe enjoys witnessing great matches on free television, I truly believe all four superstars deserve the chance to showcase their talents on the PLE. While Penta has done a terrific job as the intercontinental champion, it’s time for a fresh face to hold the prestigious title. Page would make a great braggadocious heel that would help elevate the Intercontinental Championship to new heights!
