A look at your news for 5/1/2020 including The Revival/Revolt trademark issues, AEW not signing WWE releases, Sami Zayn, Killer Kross, and fans at wrestling events?
The Chairshot Daily is your look at wrestling news and rumors–with a hint of reality thrown in! We won’t hold back on you, we will let you know what we think regarding the validity of a rumor.
AEW Not Interested in Zack Ryder or Heath Slater?
There are varying reports regarding two internet favorites in Zack Ryder and Heath Slater–and you can find them everywhere! Basically, Cody Rhodes doesn’t want to sign his friends.
“This can’t be All Friends Wrestling. You have to handle it the best way. If you put on the Nightmare Family jacket, you’ve got a massive bullseye on your back, just in the locker room alone. It’s a total heat seeker.”
Greg’s Take: AEW went on a heavy spending spree for it’s opening, but the roster is currently loaded. Can they really afford to keep adding talent with the limited television time they have available?
Sami Zayn Not Wrestling Due To COVID-19 Concerns?
Everyone loves to talk about Roman Reigns missing WWE action over coronavirus concerns, but Sami Zayn is also missing in action, and according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter it is over the same concerns.
Zayn tweeted on April 20 that he had his wisdom teeth removed, and is “ripped to shreds.”
In lighter news, I had my wisdom teeth taken out last week so I've been on an #AllPuddingDiet for days and now I'm ripped to shreds.
— Sami Zayn (@SamiZayn) April 20, 2020
Greg’s Take: WWE has been very specific in saying that talent is free to stay home during this time, and you’ll notice that a lot of the talent being featured on Raw and Smackdown live in or around Orlando. One can only hope that means we’ll see the IIconics soon enough. (And that “one” is me.)
Can Fans Attend WWE and AEW Events In Florida In May?
According to some sleuth work by Wrestling Inc, the Florida “Re-Open Florida Task Force” has putout a multi-phase program to reignite the economy. Included in this is the following note:
“Large spectator sporting events should use strict social distancing guidelines and limit occupancy of venues to 25 percent of building capacity.”
According to this information, it’s reasonable to think WWE and AEW can allow fans into the Performance Center, Full Sail, and Daily’s Place, just at a 25% capacity.
Greg’s Take: Florida is coming under some scrutiny for these moves, and others are taking it as a test for the rest of the country (much to the chagrin of the Las Vegas Mayor). I’ll take a wait and see approach, personally.
The Former Killer Kross To Make NXT Debut Next Wednesday
Karrion Kross, formerly known as Killer Kross in Impact Wrestling, AAA, and many other promotions (including Lucha Underground’s White Rabbit), is about to make his NXT debut (along with real-life girlfriend Scarlett Bordeaux) next Wednesday.
Tick tock.
Next week,

Greg’s Take: Karrion Kross appears to be a “can’t miss” prospect for WWE, and his relocation to Orlando seems to be paying off as he’s been more prominent since WrestleMania 36. If everyone plays their cards right, he can be a major star for the company.
And don’t get at me with your “I hate the name change” talk. No WWE character was going to be named “Killer,” and if you’re unsure on the new name, Google “carrion.”
WWE Opposing Trademark Requests For The Revival/The Revolt
The former Revival (Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder) are now known as The Revolt, Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood. They’ve trademarked their names, and The Revolt. However, they also tried to trademark names that WWE might take exception with: Say Yeah, #FTRKO, and No Flips Just Fists.
According to WrestlingHeadlines.com, WWE has started the process to oppose the latter, as they can coincide with WWE intellectual property.
Greg’s Take: This is just business, and WWE has every right to do it. I can’t argue against their decision here, and I am The Revival’s biggest fan!

Former WWE Star Reveals How Company Tests Wrestlers for an “Attitude Problem”
A former WWE star took to social media to explain, in brief, how WWE evaluates its talent to determine whether they have an “attitude problem.” The post offered a glimpse into the company’s behind-the-scenes vetting process, suggesting that behavior and professionalism are actively monitored during a wrestler’s time with the promotion.
While the explanation was limited, the revelation underscores WWE’s focus on maintaining locker-room culture and managing talent dynamics. Fans and industry observers may read the post as further evidence that character and conduct behind the curtain can be as consequential as in-ring performance.

WWE Backlash Match Sparks “Clone War” Debate in Wrestling Community
Wrestling fans and insiders are abuzz after a match at WWE Backlash was accused of “copycatting” a formula previously used by an independent wrestler, a situation some are calling a new “clone war” in the industry. The controversy highlights growing concerns about creative overlap between major promotions and the indie scene.
The debate raises questions about originality and recognition, with observers wondering whether mainstream companies should acknowledge or adapt indie ideas more transparently. As the story spreads, fans and performers alike are watching to see how promotions handle influence, credit, and creative borrowing moving forward.
