The Thirteen | 10 brand is back with some WWE Backlash 2020 predictions!

Well, it’s that time again. WWE Backlash 2020 is here with the self-professed Greatest Wrestling Match Ever. At least to them. Even Edge doesn’t seem to agree…

And there’s plenty more where that came from. On to my preview and predictions. No specific match order.

United States Championship: Apollo Crews © vs Andrade

2 weeks after dethroning Andrade, we get to see these 2 go at it live on PPV in what I can guarantee will be fast paced and hard hitting. What is going on with Andrade, his US title run was largely disappointing, and this comes from me being a huge fan of his. Have WWE decided that they made a mistake by taking the strap from Andrade, will Zelina have more involvement by way of helping regain or cost Andrade the title? There are so many possible outcomes for this one but I’m going with Andrade regaining the gold and his and Zelina’s relationship becoming stronger, this will come with the help from Angel Garza. Andrade and Garza will soon chase the Raw tag titles. This will be a turning point for a faction who have suffered 50/50 booking up to this point. Andrade & Zelina will have a strong 2021 with Garza breaking out end of 2020.

Winner: Andrade

Jeff Hardy vs Sheamus

So here is one of those feuds where the WWE find it acceptable to write in an individual’s personal struggles with drug & alcohol abuse and the fans can then decide to hate on the product. Well, my view is simple. Either Jeff is very happy playing this role as he overcomes his struggles or this is WWE’s way of punishing Jeff, making him face a story which is close to home and then he gets to see how the social media world views him. Either way, it is not hurting me, and I enjoy watching Sheamus & Jeff do what they do in the squared circle. Both guys have been a world champion, where are they going from here? If anyone needs the win to remain a relevant threat, then its Sheamus. Jeff can come back from this by continuing the storyline and struggles. Jeff could be a dark horse for the 2021 Royal Rumble with the help from strong storytelling from hereon in.

Winner: Sheamus

Woman’s Tag Team Titles, Triple Threat: Bayley & Sasha Banks © vs The IIconics vs Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross

I am not going to lie, I was very gutted when Bliss & Cross dropped the gold a week ago, however, the team of Sasha & Bayley are so good together (Genuine best friends of course). I am pleased to see that The IIconics are back and are getting the spotlight that they deserve. Can they steal the tag titles this weekend heading into the Summer?! On this occasion I highly doubt it. On every professional wrestling card there is always a guaranteed outcome and for me this is that match. Sasha & Bayley retain with Billie Kay taking the pin fall. The one thing to note here will be destruction caused at ringside as Bliss & Cross implode and the team is split for good. This is a slight tease as everyone will be expecting this soon from Banks & Bayley but for now, they are strong and unified as a team…. that it is until we at least get fans back in arenas….

Winners: Banks & Bayley

Raw Woman’s Championship: Asuka © vs Nia Jax

Nia Jax is and will always be a threat in the woman’s division. Nia Jax and Asuka always work well together with fantastic storytelling throughout. I can see Asuka reigning on Raw for some time, perhaps remaining unstoppable until at least Shayna is ready to take the title or even perhaps Ronda Rousey returns. Asuka vs Ronda would headline any PPV in the world. Asuka will win here with the Asuka lock. I think Nia Jax will bounce back as her and Alexa Bliss could team together soon and rule supreme over the tag division.

Winner: Asuka

WWE Universal Championship, 2 on 1 Handicap, Braun Strowman © vs The Miz & John Morrison

I absolutely love this concept; we could have a double champion in The Miz & Morrison come Sunday night and it would be wonderful! The last time Braun defended a title in a handicap match he lost! It could well happen again but this time with an act who would thrive on being a joint champion. I could see them both have a universal title each around their waist (yes like a tag team) but this would be fun! ….. Not going to happen! Braun wins by destroying both guys and will eventually meet The Fiend at SummerSlam. Braun’s title run has been fun up to this point and I want to see it continue until at least August.

Winner: Braun Strowman

WWE Championship, Drew Mcintyre © vs Bobby Lashley

How good does Bobby Lashley look right now?! New Attitude, New look, & flanked by MVP…This is awesome and I have never been so invested in Lashley throughout the 15 years that I have been familiar, however, he is now stepping up to face the WWE Champion Drew Mcintyre and Drew has been an unstoppable force throughout 2020. Is it time for a change?! Not just yet but if you can make Lashley look like a bad ass, perhaps ending in disqualification as he bloodies and batters drew causing a DQ then it will only serve as a purpose for Lashley’s rise and potential rematch at Extreme Rules.

Winner: Via DQ, Drew Mcintyre

The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever, Randy Orton vs Edge

Intriguing to say the very least. I just have this feeling that these guys want to have an absolute classic and I have that feeling that it Is going to be just that. Is it possible to top Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels from WM25?! Most definitely not, especially with no real crowd reaction and interaction, however, they will give it a real good go. Both guys are clearly out to better the WM36 match that they had, yeah, the one that ran for 35 minutes and was probably 20 minutes too long. If we get dramatic near falls with some great storytelling, then we could have a potential match of the night. Afterall, WWE are already pushing the match merch for this one. Edge won at Mania, Orton is to take the win here which will lead to either extreme rules or maybe even SummerSlam where they hope to have crowds back in attendance is looking more and more likely!

Winner: Randy Orton

Chris King: Is Brock Lesnar Truly Retired?

Brock Lesnar WWE WrestleMania 42 Retirement

Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…

At WrestleMania 42, ‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar took off his boots and gloves following his loss to Oba Femi. Lesnar has done it all inside of his twenty-four-year career in professional wrestling. He’s a ten-time WWE Champion and former UFC Heavyweight Champion, and he’s one who ended The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania.

While Lesnar was in the ring, he was visibly overwhelmed with emotion and crying while he thanked the fans in his own way. The Beast even threw up an x to signal to Paul Heyman, his longtime friend and advocate, that this was not scripted and was real. There had been rumors that Lesnar and Oba were supposed to have a series of matches before everything went down at Mania.

‘The Career Killer’ Gunther was doing Heyman’s bidding as he faced Seth Rollins for a favor. For a while now since Gunther retired Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, the rumor has been Gunther was set to retire Lesnar in his hometown at this year’s SummerSlam event. There’s been no confirmation if Lesnar is truly retired, but on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, we saw Heyman talking with General Manager Nick Aldis. Later that night following Rhodes’ match against the debuting Ricky Saints, Gunther choked out the WWE Champion. Could this be the favor from Heyman?

I know in the world of professional wrestling we live by the mantra of “never say never,” but what if Lesnar is actually retired and this was WWE’s way of shutting down those rumors about Gunther and Lesnar? What if Gunther’s next program is chasing after the WWE title, and where is Randy Orton at in all of these plans? There are so many questions that need to be answered, hopefully soon!

Chris King: Defend The Intercontinental Championship At Backlash!

With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!

Penta WWE Intercontinental Championship WrestleMania 42

With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!

This year’s annual Backlash showcase is only a few days away, and while there are many big matches announced, one that definitely should be isn’t on the card. In my opinion, outside of Roman Reigns/Jacob Fatu and Seth Rollins/Bron Breakker, the Intercontinental Championship scene has been stellar over the last month.

Penta has been an excellent champion, especially after his triumphant title defense in a ladder match against JeVon Evans, Rusev, Dragon Lee, and the Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42. Their ladder match at Mania was one of the best that WWE has produced in a while.

The momentum never stopped, as on the post-Mania episode of Monday Night Raw, ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page made his debut and was quickly inserted into the Intercontinental title scene. Page had a fantastic showing against his longtime NXT rival Evans and picked up a big win in his debut match thanks to an assist from Rusev.

All Ego immediately joined forces with ‘The Bulgarian Brute’ Rusev, who was also vying for the Intercontinental Title in his own right. On this week’s episode of Raw, Page and Rusev defeated Evans and Penta. All Ego pinned the champion, making a huge statement and putting him one step closer to getting a title shot. For the past few weeks I’ve been anxiously waiting to see if WWE was going to add this incredible fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Championship, but it hasn’t happened yet.

As much as the WWE Universe enjoys witnessing great matches on free television, I truly believe all four superstars deserve the chance to showcase their talents on the PLE. While Penta has done a terrific job as the intercontinental champion, it’s time for a fresh face to hold the prestigious title. Page would make a great braggadocious heel that would help elevate the Intercontinental Championship to new heights!
