Top 5 Moments From The 2021 Royal Rumble

Bodeen gives us his Top 5 moments from Royal Rumble! Did he miss any big moments?
Yet again, the Royal Rumble gives us a great start as we head into the new year. Despite COVID not allowing live crowds at an event that has a huge dependence on crowd participation, the Royal Rumble was still an amazing event to watch, with some moments standing out. So as we get our breath back and start the road to WrestleMania, let’s look at the top 5 moments from the Royal Rumble
5. Rhea Ripley cleans house
The women’s Royal Rumble match has always had a huge NXT presence with many names from NXT standing out and having a great performance. This year was no different with Rhea Ripley cleaning house and scoring the most eliminations in the match, with one of these eliminations being her WrestleMania rival Charlotte.
Rhea would dominate most of the match until it came down to the final 2 where she faced old NXT rival, Bianca Belair. Both women would trade blows in a blood-pumping sequence until Bianca would clothesline Rhea out of the ring to win the women’s rumble and gain some revenge from Rhea beating her at TakeOver Portland last year.
Hopefully, a strong performance is a sign of things to come if she ever leaves NXT and goes to either RAW or SmackDown.

4. Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns destroy each other
Despite the finish falling flat, mainly due to a botch where Paul Heyman couldn’t get Roman’s handcuffs off forcing the referee to stop his count, this was still a great match. Kevin Owens looked strong in this match, despite the loss, getting up after being thrown through tables, being hit by a golf cart and being speared through the stage.
This match also further helped Roman’s new heel character. With Roman sounding sadistic, cold and heartless during this match, showing how far he will go to remain the head of the table.
With both men looking strong thanks to this match, it will be interesting how WWE use this momentum as we approach WrestleMania.
3. Christian returns
After an episode of RAW last year where Randy Orton punted Christian, most people assumed the dream of Christian having one more match would never happen. Then as the buzzer hit for number 24, the impossible happened as Christian made his surprise return after not having an official match for over 7 years.
The moment of capped of when Edge and Christian embraced each other in the ring, in what was a tearful reunion for fans of the attitude era.
While it is probably too quick to speculate, hopefully, this means he can have one more match and retire on his own terms.
2. Bianca Belair wins the Women’s Royal Rumble
As I previously mentioned in my top 5 moments of SmackDown last week, Bianca Belair’s recent push has been one of the best and most natural pushes I have seen in recent years. At no time has it felt forced, it all come together naturally. Her Royal Rumble win has been one of the most feel-good rumble wins in recent years.
Credit also has to be given to her performance, coming at number 3 and last almost an hour to win and eliminating four other women during the match.
Hopefully, she will ride this momentum into WrestleMania as she is the fresh face that the women’s division needs on SmackDown.
1. Edge wins the Men’s Royal Rumble
Edge winning the Royal Rumble has led to one of the most divided responses I have seen in years. A lot of fans found it insulting that an older name such as Edge won it, rather than a newer and fresher name. That being said, there is no denying that Edge winning the Rumble was a great moment, with Edge defiantly deserving it for all the hard work he has done to come back from injury.
What made this win so good, was the story told Edge entered number 1 and took most of the punishment, with multiple heels teaming on him. Just when things looked grim, Christian made his return and teamed up with Edge. This was all finished up by WWE nearly giving us a heart attack as it looked like Orton would eliminate Edge, only for Edge to reverse Orton and win the rumble.
Edge winning was the final note, on a great, feel-good Royal Rumble which defiantly helped set up the build for WrestleMania.
These are my top 5 moments for the 2021 Royal Rumble. What were your top 5 moments? Let us know in the comments below.

Chris King: Is Brock Lesnar Truly Retired?
Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…
Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…
At WrestleMania 42, ‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar took off his boots and gloves following his loss to Oba Femi. Lesnar has done it all inside of his twenty-four-year career in professional wrestling. He’s a ten-time WWE Champion and former UFC Heavyweight Champion, and he’s one who ended The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania.
While Lesnar was in the ring, he was visibly overwhelmed with emotion and crying while he thanked the fans in his own way. The Beast even threw up an x to signal to Paul Heyman, his longtime friend and advocate, that this was not scripted and was real. There had been rumors that Lesnar and Oba were supposed to have a series of matches before everything went down at Mania.
‘The Career Killer’ Gunther was doing Heyman’s bidding as he faced Seth Rollins for a favor. For a while now since Gunther retired Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, the rumor has been Gunther was set to retire Lesnar in his hometown at this year’s SummerSlam event. There’s been no confirmation if Lesnar is truly retired, but on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, we saw Heyman talking with General Manager Nick Aldis. Later that night following Rhodes’ match against the debuting Ricky Saints, Gunther choked out the WWE Champion. Could this be the favor from Heyman?
I know in the world of professional wrestling we live by the mantra of “never say never,” but what if Lesnar is actually retired and this was WWE’s way of shutting down those rumors about Gunther and Lesnar? What if Gunther’s next program is chasing after the WWE title, and where is Randy Orton at in all of these plans? There are so many questions that need to be answered, hopefully soon!

Chris King: Defend The Intercontinental Championship At Backlash!
With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!
With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!
This year’s annual Backlash showcase is only a few days away, and while there are many big matches announced, one that definitely should be isn’t on the card. In my opinion, outside of Roman Reigns/Jacob Fatu and Seth Rollins/Bron Breakker, the Intercontinental Championship scene has been stellar over the last month.
Penta has been an excellent champion, especially after his triumphant title defense in a ladder match against JeVon Evans, Rusev, Dragon Lee, and the Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42. Their ladder match at Mania was one of the best that WWE has produced in a while.
The momentum never stopped, as on the post-Mania episode of Monday Night Raw, ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page made his debut and was quickly inserted into the Intercontinental title scene. Page had a fantastic showing against his longtime NXT rival Evans and picked up a big win in his debut match thanks to an assist from Rusev.
All Ego immediately joined forces with ‘The Bulgarian Brute’ Rusev, who was also vying for the Intercontinental Title in his own right. On this week’s episode of Raw, Page and Rusev defeated Evans and Penta. All Ego pinned the champion, making a huge statement and putting him one step closer to getting a title shot. For the past few weeks I’ve been anxiously waiting to see if WWE was going to add this incredible fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Championship, but it hasn’t happened yet.
As much as the WWE Universe enjoys witnessing great matches on free television, I truly believe all four superstars deserve the chance to showcase their talents on the PLE. While Penta has done a terrific job as the intercontinental champion, it’s time for a fresh face to hold the prestigious title. Page would make a great braggadocious heel that would help elevate the Intercontinental Championship to new heights!
