Bodeen’s Top 5 Moments: WWE SmackDown (3/19/21)
In the Blue Brands final show before Fastlane; Bodeen lists off his Top 5 moments!
With SmackDown just a few days away, this week’s edition of SmackDown was a solid go-home show with the big story of SmackDown being Edge returning to the ring on SmackDown for the first time in over ten years.
So as we get ready for the last big stop on the Road to WrestleMania let us once again look at the top 5 moments that stood out on SmackDown this week.
5. Seth Rollins sends a message to Cesaro
After Seth Rollins curb stomped Cesaro last week, Seth Rollins would come out on SmackDown to boast about his attack on Cesaro last week. Rollins would then talk about the differences in both men’s careers and how while Seth Rollins main evented WrestleMania and achieved success, Cesaro struggled to grab the brass ring and reach his potential.
Cesaro’s tag team partner, Shinsuke Nakamura would then come out and confront Rollins. After a tense standoff, both men would eventually attack each other, with Nakamura getting the upper hand over Rollins, hitting Rollins with the Kinshasa. Later in the night it was announced that both men would face each other this Sunday at Fastlane.
While the match between the two men this Sunday may be a part of the build for a WrestleMania match between Rollins and Cesaro, it still should be a great match to watch, especially as both men have proved they work well together after their match at Survivor Series in 2018.
4. Daniel Bryan stamps his authority heading into Fastlane
Just a few weeks ago the main event for WrestleMania 37 seemed set. However, as Daniel Bryan started to feud with Roman Reigns and started confronting Edge heading to Fastlane, the idea of a triple threat match for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania seems very possible as time went on.
Daniel Bryan would come out this week and talk about his match at Fastlane and what would happen if either Edge or Jey Uso were to be the special enforcers for his match heading into Fastline. Daniel would later provoke Reigns telling him that he was going to make Reigns tap at Fastlane.
Reigns would later get revenge on Daniel Bryan later in the night as he hit Edge with a spear after Edge’s match against Jey Uso. Daniel Bryan and Reigns would then stare off before Jey attacked Bryan, allowing Roman to hit Bryan with a spear to close the show.
3. Big E and Apollo Crews trade blows before Fastlane
After Apollo Crew’s repeated attacks on Big E, Big E would eventually give Apollo another shot at the Intercontinental Championship at Fastlane this Sunday. Big E and Apollo Crews would get one last chance to trade words ahead of their match this Sunday with a backstage interview.
During the interview, Big E would mock Apollo’s new character change. Apollo would then retaliate saying that he would destroy Big E this Sunday. Both men would eventually leave the interview to attack each other, with Apollo eventually retreating on a golf cart.
While this was a short, simple segment it was still very effective and helped the build heading into Fastlane. It was also nice to see Big E remove his more cheerful side as he became more aggressive against Apollo Crews, due to Apollo’s repeated attacks.
2. The Mysterio family pull double duty against The Street Profits and Chad Gable and Otis
With SmackDown’s tag division being somewhat limited now due to Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura competing as single competitors, the remaining tag teams have had to step up their game recently on SmackDown. This week would be no different as Rey and Dominik Mysterio pulled double duty and had back-to-back matches with The Street Profits and Otis and Chad Gable.
Rey and Dominik would start off the night by scoring a huge upset win over The Street Profits with Dominik getting the pin over Angelo Dawkins. The Mysterio family would then face off against Otis and Chad Gable with Otis hitting Dominik with a huge splash for the win. While nothing special, both matches were solid and passed the time well.
Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler also did a solid job as special guest commentators, calling out the mistakes from all teams involved in both matches. Special credit also has to be given to Roode’s hilarious line saying that “This Rey guy has a good future.”
1. Edge return to the blue brand for the first time in over ten years
Despite Fastlane being this Sunday, most of the build heading into SmackDown this week was about Edge having a match on SmackDown for the first time in over a decade. All night SmackDown showed special moments that happened on the blue brand in Edge’s career, from the time he cashed in The Money In The Bank briefcase on The Undertaker to Edge’s retirement.
Edge would get the upper hand early against Jey Uso, using his in-ring experience to target Jey’s shoulder early in the match. Uso would then get offense back in as he targeted the ribs of the rated-R superstar. Uso would continue to target the ribs of Edge and even hit a superkick and a splash for a nearfall with Jey’s injured shoulder preventing him from covering Edge quicker.
Edge would then target Jey’s injured shoulder once again, slamming Jey into the match and then hitting a spear for the win to become the enforcer for the match between Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns this Sunday. This was an amazing match and also made Jey Uso look strong as he pushed Edge to his limit.
These were my top 5 moments from SmackDown this week. What were your top 5 moments and what match are you most excited for this Sunday at Fastline? Let us know in the comments below

Chris King: Is Brock Lesnar Truly Retired?
Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…
Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…
At WrestleMania 42, ‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar took off his boots and gloves following his loss to Oba Femi. Lesnar has done it all inside of his twenty-four-year career in professional wrestling. He’s a ten-time WWE Champion and former UFC Heavyweight Champion, and he’s one who ended The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania.
While Lesnar was in the ring, he was visibly overwhelmed with emotion and crying while he thanked the fans in his own way. The Beast even threw up an x to signal to Paul Heyman, his longtime friend and advocate, that this was not scripted and was real. There had been rumors that Lesnar and Oba were supposed to have a series of matches before everything went down at Mania.
‘The Career Killer’ Gunther was doing Heyman’s bidding as he faced Seth Rollins for a favor. For a while now since Gunther retired Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, the rumor has been Gunther was set to retire Lesnar in his hometown at this year’s SummerSlam event. There’s been no confirmation if Lesnar is truly retired, but on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, we saw Heyman talking with General Manager Nick Aldis. Later that night following Rhodes’ match against the debuting Ricky Saints, Gunther choked out the WWE Champion. Could this be the favor from Heyman?
I know in the world of professional wrestling we live by the mantra of “never say never,” but what if Lesnar is actually retired and this was WWE’s way of shutting down those rumors about Gunther and Lesnar? What if Gunther’s next program is chasing after the WWE title, and where is Randy Orton at in all of these plans? There are so many questions that need to be answered, hopefully soon!

Chris King: Defend The Intercontinental Championship At Backlash!
With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!
With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!
This year’s annual Backlash showcase is only a few days away, and while there are many big matches announced, one that definitely should be isn’t on the card. In my opinion, outside of Roman Reigns/Jacob Fatu and Seth Rollins/Bron Breakker, the Intercontinental Championship scene has been stellar over the last month.
Penta has been an excellent champion, especially after his triumphant title defense in a ladder match against JeVon Evans, Rusev, Dragon Lee, and the Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42. Their ladder match at Mania was one of the best that WWE has produced in a while.
The momentum never stopped, as on the post-Mania episode of Monday Night Raw, ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page made his debut and was quickly inserted into the Intercontinental title scene. Page had a fantastic showing against his longtime NXT rival Evans and picked up a big win in his debut match thanks to an assist from Rusev.
All Ego immediately joined forces with ‘The Bulgarian Brute’ Rusev, who was also vying for the Intercontinental Title in his own right. On this week’s episode of Raw, Page and Rusev defeated Evans and Penta. All Ego pinned the champion, making a huge statement and putting him one step closer to getting a title shot. For the past few weeks I’ve been anxiously waiting to see if WWE was going to add this incredible fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Championship, but it hasn’t happened yet.
As much as the WWE Universe enjoys witnessing great matches on free television, I truly believe all four superstars deserve the chance to showcase their talents on the PLE. While Penta has done a terrific job as the intercontinental champion, it’s time for a fresh face to hold the prestigious title. Page would make a great braggadocious heel that would help elevate the Intercontinental Championship to new heights!
