WWE NXT General Manager: Greg DeMarco’s Top 5 Candidates
Who will replace William Regal as WWE NXT General Manager on tonight’s show? Greg DeMarco has some ideas!
Who will replace William Regal as WWE NXT General Manager on tonight’s show? Greg DeMarco has some ideas!
WWE NXT delivered another bang-up NXT Takeover card with In Your House 2021. As I mentioned in the Three Stars, the card outshined the build, and by far. But after the frenetic paced main event, William Regal shocked the world by indicating there was too much bedlam and things needed to change after 7 years of him being in charge. He did this in a somber way that is usually reserved for someone who realizes they’re not the person for the job any longer.
Now we have the assumption that we will get a new General Manager on NXT, and thus it’s time we speculate! Yes, one man is reported as coming back, but there are other options on the table. Let’s see them, shall we?
5. Beth Phoenix
Beth Phoenix is doing a smash-up job at the NXT commentary table, easily the best female commentator we’ve ever had, anywhere, and she has a voice that has already become synonymous with the brand. So it’s hard to pull her away from the commentary table. Hard, but not impossible.
Beth has a commanding presence, would be a swerve as no one expects a female, and can deliver with both men and women. She’s not afraid to get physical, she’s respected, and she obviously loves the brand. Beth could actually be a slam dunk, even if it’s not gonna happen.
4. Roderick Strong
Ol’ Roddy Strong currently sits between the Road Dogg and Ronda Rousey in the WWE Alumni section, with nary a report of his release to be found. He’s one hell of a talented worker, but not the greatest promo guy ever. However, putting him as the GM could be entertaining, as he can be the straight man needed around NXT’s cast of characters.
Roderick Strong also has the built in history with major players in NXT, including (of course) Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly. That’s enough to give him a story with basically anyone else on the roster who doubts his sincerity, loyalty, or motivations. Much like Beth Phoenix, I don’t see it happening, but also much like Beth Phoenix, I would love it if it did.
3. William Regal Himself
Sometimes things aren’t what they seem, eh? What if William Regal is bringing in an enforcer, or leaning into the bedlam–possibly by bringing in the Diamond Mine concept? We are quick to assume a new General Manager will be named, and while that assumption is likely a safe one, this IS wrestling after all. Anything can happen, and maybe this goes in a whole different direction–one that keeps William Regal in the General Manager role.
2. Samoa Joe
It’s too easy to put Samoa Joe at #1, he’s the guy everyone expects. Reports are out there that he’s signed back with the company, that he hasn’t been cleared, that his stint at the Performance Center this past week didn’t include him bumping in a ring at all. He could be a producer, commentator (replacing new GM Beth Phoenix, maybe?), or secretly cleared and Karrion Kross’ next challenger.
He could also be the new General Manager of NXT, a role that I think he’d flourish in. Honestly, I am here for Samoa Joe back in NXT in any capacity, but obviously I would pick “active pro wrestler” over any of the other options.
1. Daniel Bryan
Now here’s a Swerve, Scott! We get Samoa Joe in a wrestling role (or none at all), but the General Manager is none other than Daniel Bryan! A non-wrestling role is a great way to keep him relevant while he scratches an itch or two in Japan and/or on the indies. Plenty of ways to get him back into the ring when the time is right. He’s got experience playing the role, he can promo with the best of ’em, he’d still contribute backstage.
I know I said Beth Phoenix would be a slam dunk, but now we have two slam dunks because count me IN for Daniel Bryan as your new WWE NXT General Manager.

Chris King: Is Brock Lesnar Truly Retired?
Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…
Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…
At WrestleMania 42, ‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar took off his boots and gloves following his loss to Oba Femi. Lesnar has done it all inside of his twenty-four-year career in professional wrestling. He’s a ten-time WWE Champion and former UFC Heavyweight Champion, and he’s one who ended The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania.
While Lesnar was in the ring, he was visibly overwhelmed with emotion and crying while he thanked the fans in his own way. The Beast even threw up an x to signal to Paul Heyman, his longtime friend and advocate, that this was not scripted and was real. There had been rumors that Lesnar and Oba were supposed to have a series of matches before everything went down at Mania.
‘The Career Killer’ Gunther was doing Heyman’s bidding as he faced Seth Rollins for a favor. For a while now since Gunther retired Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, the rumor has been Gunther was set to retire Lesnar in his hometown at this year’s SummerSlam event. There’s been no confirmation if Lesnar is truly retired, but on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, we saw Heyman talking with General Manager Nick Aldis. Later that night following Rhodes’ match against the debuting Ricky Saints, Gunther choked out the WWE Champion. Could this be the favor from Heyman?
I know in the world of professional wrestling we live by the mantra of “never say never,” but what if Lesnar is actually retired and this was WWE’s way of shutting down those rumors about Gunther and Lesnar? What if Gunther’s next program is chasing after the WWE title, and where is Randy Orton at in all of these plans? There are so many questions that need to be answered, hopefully soon!

Chris King: Defend The Intercontinental Championship At Backlash!
With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!
With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!
This year’s annual Backlash showcase is only a few days away, and while there are many big matches announced, one that definitely should be isn’t on the card. In my opinion, outside of Roman Reigns/Jacob Fatu and Seth Rollins/Bron Breakker, the Intercontinental Championship scene has been stellar over the last month.
Penta has been an excellent champion, especially after his triumphant title defense in a ladder match against JeVon Evans, Rusev, Dragon Lee, and the Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42. Their ladder match at Mania was one of the best that WWE has produced in a while.
The momentum never stopped, as on the post-Mania episode of Monday Night Raw, ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page made his debut and was quickly inserted into the Intercontinental title scene. Page had a fantastic showing against his longtime NXT rival Evans and picked up a big win in his debut match thanks to an assist from Rusev.
All Ego immediately joined forces with ‘The Bulgarian Brute’ Rusev, who was also vying for the Intercontinental Title in his own right. On this week’s episode of Raw, Page and Rusev defeated Evans and Penta. All Ego pinned the champion, making a huge statement and putting him one step closer to getting a title shot. For the past few weeks I’ve been anxiously waiting to see if WWE was going to add this incredible fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Championship, but it hasn’t happened yet.
As much as the WWE Universe enjoys witnessing great matches on free television, I truly believe all four superstars deserve the chance to showcase their talents on the PLE. While Penta has done a terrific job as the intercontinental champion, it’s time for a fresh face to hold the prestigious title. Page would make a great braggadocious heel that would help elevate the Intercontinental Championship to new heights!
