Chairshot Staff Picks: Royal Rumble
Saturday’s Royal Rumble kicks off the Road to WrestleMania! Let the Chairshot Staff give you a leg up on making your own predictions.
Welcome back to the Chairshot Staff picks, wrestling fans! It’s that time of year again for everyone’s (mine for sure) favorite sports entertainment premium live event… The Royal Rumble!!! Multiple titles on the line, a Pitch-Black match and of course both men’s and women’s rumbles. It’s not just the title matches and rumbles that make this event so great. The excitement and intrigue of surprise returns coupled with setting the tone for the Road to WrestleMania is what gets my cheese wheel cranking. So, let’s get to it and see what us so called sports entertainment experts here at TheChairshot.com are predicting for WWE’s 36th annual Royal Rumble.

Bray Wyatt v LA Knight
AJ Balaz – Bray Wyatt
Andrew Balaz – LA Knight
Chris Platt – Bray Wyatt
Dave Ungar – Bray Wyatt
DJ Minter – Bray Wyatt
DPP – Bray Wyatt
Dr. Smores – Bray Wyatt
Patrick O’Dowd -Bray Wyatt
Rey Cash – Bray Wyatt
Greg DeMarco – LA Knight
Tunney’s Take: What the F*CK is a Pitch-Black Match? How much Mt. Dew do you have to make your opponent drink to win? If history tells us anything Bray Wyatt has consistently lost big match after big match in his career, and I don’t see that trend ending Saturday night. Don’t get me wrong, Bray will come out looking like a million bucks here, but does he pick up the W? MY PICK – LA Knight
Chairshot Pick – Bray Wyatt 73%

Bianca Belair(c) v Alexa Bliss
AJ Balaz – Alexa Bliss
Andrew Balaz – Bianca Belair
Chris Platt – Bianca Belair
Dave Ungar – Bianca Belair
DJ Minter – Bianca Belair
DPP – Bianca Belair
Dr. Smores – Alexa Bliss
Patrick O’Dowd – Bianca Belair
Rey Cash – Bianca Belair
Greg DeMarco – Bianca Belair
Tunney’s Take: This prediction here is the trickiest one to me. IF there will be a title change Saturday, this is the one. Alexa is overdue in my mind for another title run. Does it happen here? I doubt it. I feel like we all know we are headed towards Bianca and Rhea at Mania. MY PICK – Bianca Belair
Chairshot Pick – Bianca Belair 82%

Roman Reigns(c) v Kevin Owens
AJ Balaz – Roman Reigns
Andrew Balaz – Roman Reigns
Chris Platt – Roman Reigns
Dave Ungar – Roman Reigns
DJ Minter – Kevin Owens (Title doesn’t change hands.)
DPP – Roman Reigns
Dr. Smores – Roman Reigns
Patrick O’Dowd – Roman Reigns
Rey Cash – Roman Reigns (Rey didn’t actually pick this one. He just wrote in, “DUH”.)
Greg DeMarco – Roman Reigns
Tunney’s Take: ROMAN REIGNS ROMAN REIGNS ROMAN REIGNS… Greg DeMarco would tell you the real question is, does Roman pass Hogan’s modern day record reign in some shape or form? MY PICK – Roman Reigns
Chairshot Pick – Roman Reigns 91%

Women’s Royal Rumble Winner/Surprise Entrants
AJ Balaz – Rhea Ripley / Chelsea Green, Torrie Wilson
Andrew Balaz – Xia Li / Jackie Moore, Kaitlyn
Chris Platt – Rhea Ripley / Lita, Madusa
Dave Ungar – Rhea Ripley / Naomi, Chelsea Green
DJ Minter – Naomi / Naomi
DPP – Rhea Ripley
Dr. Smores – Rhea Ripley / Naomi, Stacey Keibler
Patrick O’Dowd – Rhea Ripley / Nikki Bella, Michelle McCool
Rey Cash – Rhea Ripley / Candice Michelle, Carmella
Greg DeMarco – Rhea Ripley / Chelsea Green, Naomi
Tunney’s Take: All signs point to Ripley here. I see the signs and by the time you read this I will have saw the sign(s)… MY PICK – Rhea Ripley / DouDrop, Dark Asuka
Chairshot Pick – Rhea Ripley 82%
Men’s Royal Rumble Winner/Surprise Entrants
AJ Balaz – Cody Rhodes / Zack Ryder, Jay White
Andrew Balaz – Steve Austin / Kane, JBL
Chris Platt – Steve Austin / Steve Austin, Dragon Lee
Dave Ungar – Cody Rhodes / Steve Austin, Jay White
DJ Minter – Steve Austin / Steve Austin, Pat McAfee
DPP – Sami Zayn / Zack Ryder, Pat McAfee
Dr. Smores – Sami Zayn / Goldust, Jay White
Patrick O’Dowd – Sami Zayn / Jay White, Logan Paul
Rey Cash – Cody Rhodes / RVD, Riddle
Greg DeMarco – Sami Zayn / Steve Austin, Pat McAfee
Tunney’s Take: For over two years I’ve been saying we would get Rock and Roman at this year’s Mania. I know longer believe that will happen. Maybe next year but, not this year. So, who is the next best option for Roman? …Cody? Seth? Sami? NOPE. It’s Stone Cold Steve Austin. You don’t have to look very hard to find out how much work Austin has been putting in and seemingly getting ready for one final run. However short or long that run may be, I’m on board! MY PICK – Steve Austin / Zack Ryder, Uncle Howdy
Chairshot Pick – Sami Zayn 36% Steve Austin 36% (Cody Rhodes 27%)
There you have it rasslin’ fans. The brilliant picks of The Chairshot staff! No matter how you are consuming the Royal Rumble Saturday, remember three things. One, have plenty of snacks and beverages on hand. Two, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, even if it’s wrong lol. Three, HAVE FUN, otherwise what is the point.

Chris King: Is Brock Lesnar Truly Retired?
Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…
Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…
At WrestleMania 42, ‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar took off his boots and gloves following his loss to Oba Femi. Lesnar has done it all inside of his twenty-four-year career in professional wrestling. He’s a ten-time WWE Champion and former UFC Heavyweight Champion, and he’s one who ended The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania.
While Lesnar was in the ring, he was visibly overwhelmed with emotion and crying while he thanked the fans in his own way. The Beast even threw up an x to signal to Paul Heyman, his longtime friend and advocate, that this was not scripted and was real. There had been rumors that Lesnar and Oba were supposed to have a series of matches before everything went down at Mania.
‘The Career Killer’ Gunther was doing Heyman’s bidding as he faced Seth Rollins for a favor. For a while now since Gunther retired Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, the rumor has been Gunther was set to retire Lesnar in his hometown at this year’s SummerSlam event. There’s been no confirmation if Lesnar is truly retired, but on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, we saw Heyman talking with General Manager Nick Aldis. Later that night following Rhodes’ match against the debuting Ricky Saints, Gunther choked out the WWE Champion. Could this be the favor from Heyman?
I know in the world of professional wrestling we live by the mantra of “never say never,” but what if Lesnar is actually retired and this was WWE’s way of shutting down those rumors about Gunther and Lesnar? What if Gunther’s next program is chasing after the WWE title, and where is Randy Orton at in all of these plans? There are so many questions that need to be answered, hopefully soon!

Chris King: Defend The Intercontinental Championship At Backlash!
With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!
With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!
This year’s annual Backlash showcase is only a few days away, and while there are many big matches announced, one that definitely should be isn’t on the card. In my opinion, outside of Roman Reigns/Jacob Fatu and Seth Rollins/Bron Breakker, the Intercontinental Championship scene has been stellar over the last month.
Penta has been an excellent champion, especially after his triumphant title defense in a ladder match against JeVon Evans, Rusev, Dragon Lee, and the Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42. Their ladder match at Mania was one of the best that WWE has produced in a while.
The momentum never stopped, as on the post-Mania episode of Monday Night Raw, ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page made his debut and was quickly inserted into the Intercontinental title scene. Page had a fantastic showing against his longtime NXT rival Evans and picked up a big win in his debut match thanks to an assist from Rusev.
All Ego immediately joined forces with ‘The Bulgarian Brute’ Rusev, who was also vying for the Intercontinental Title in his own right. On this week’s episode of Raw, Page and Rusev defeated Evans and Penta. All Ego pinned the champion, making a huge statement and putting him one step closer to getting a title shot. For the past few weeks I’ve been anxiously waiting to see if WWE was going to add this incredible fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Championship, but it hasn’t happened yet.
As much as the WWE Universe enjoys witnessing great matches on free television, I truly believe all four superstars deserve the chance to showcase their talents on the PLE. While Penta has done a terrific job as the intercontinental champion, it’s time for a fresh face to hold the prestigious title. Page would make a great braggadocious heel that would help elevate the Intercontinental Championship to new heights!
