The tapings for this year’s WWE Mae Young Classic are less than a month away now, being held at Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida on August 8th and 9th. We’ve heard about WWE possibly reaching out to talents about participating, plus speculation about some recently signed stars such as Io Shirai and Deonna Purrazzo competing as well, but nothing confirmed.

Today it was first reported by ESPN that former WWE Superstar Kaitlyn will be returning to take part in the tournament, which has now been confirmed by WWE. Real name Celeste Bonin, Kaitlyn retired from the WWE back in 2014 at the age of 27, saying she wanted to focus on her business and new marriage to PJ Braun. The winner of season three of NXT and one-time Divas Champion stayed completely away from the wrestling business, but after her divorce in early 2017 (which got fairly messy), Kaitlyn began to get the bug again and began training to wrestle again.

She would come out of retirement last December for Coastal Championship Wrestling with a victory over Rachael Ellering and has since continued to ramp up her involvement with professional wrestling once again.

At this time, Kaitlyn is the only confirmed competitor for the Mae Young Classic. It’s also not known if she will be returning for more than just the Mae Young Classic, however we’ve seen before that it could certainly open that door to do more should both parties be interested.
