The holiday in the United States is in the rear view this week with WWE heading straight for Extreme Rules this Sunday in Pittsburgh. Last night was the final stop for Monday Night RAW prior to the pay-per-view, rolling into the TD Garden in Boston and looking to get momentum rolling. Following last week’s solid showing in the ratings, the numbers for last night’s edition of the red brand are in and they’re certainly “history making”.

The July 9th episode of RAW last evening comes in with an overall rating of 2.470 after last week’s 2.707, a new low for 2018 and the lowest rating in the history of the program. Previously, the September 26th, 2016 edition of RAW held the lowest rating with a 2.478.

In the 18-49 demographic, RAW was able to keep holding its own however, coming at numbers two (8PM hour), three (9PM hour) and five (10PM) in the Cable Top 150 Rankings. Number one was taken yet again by Love & Hip Hop Atlanta, while season eight of MTV’s Teen Mom came in at fourth.

Here are the ratings for the last four weeks of RAW:

• June 18th: 2.903
• June 25th: 2.663
• July 2nd: 2.707
• July 9th: 2.470

EA’s Take: Again, I’m starting to believe more and more that there’s no real rhyme or reason to the ratings anymore. Not when it comes to changes of a couple hundred thousand on a weekly basis. Last week’s episode of RAW (which was on a holiday week, mind you), I found to be pretty abysmal and it outdraws last night’s show, which I felt was much better. Perhaps last week was so poor that it caused some to tune out this week? I do think the fact that this is the “lowest rating in history” can be a little misleading as well, since it’s only a .008 less than the previous low. I try to just base the product off of how I felt about it personally at this point and last night’s show started with one of the better segments in a number of weeks. I’ll be interested to see how much this changes heading into SummerSlam.
