All Elite Wrestling Could Free The Revival

WWE The Revival Entrance

With all this talk surrounding the potential All Elite Wrestling, Steve Cook has a great idea to save one of the internet’s favorite tag teams, The Revival!

It’s been a hot minute since the last time I discussed the potential new wrestling promotion involving Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks, Shad Khan & others. What’s happened since the rumors started has been completely predictable…

  • Chris Jericho & Jim Ross both denied any involvement & were shocked at their names being involved in such crazy rumors.
  • The Bucks & Cody remained vague about their future plans while they & their Elite friends released their last Bullet Club t-shirts
  • After a period of no news, we found out last week that a new LLC listing the Jacksonville Jaguars’ stadium as their address filed trademarks for names including “AEW”, “All Elite Wrestling”, “AEW All Out” & others.
  • It was reported that “several WWE talents” would like to be part of All Elite Wrestling. Assuming it happens, of course.
  • Soon after this, reports emerged that WWE was pressuring some of their talent to extend their contracts & had made substantial offers to Cody & the Bucks.

Shocking, right?

None of this should come as a surprise to anybody that has followed the wrestling business for any length of time. When rumors like these first come out, the reaction from anybody mentioned is to either deny or ignore it. The masses will assume nothing is really going on. Business will continue to be conducted behind the scenes. A little bit more gets out there after time has passed, and the cycle continues.

Make no mistake, these things take time. You can’t start a wrestling promotion the day after coming up with the idea. Maybe you could, but it’d be really bad. The people rumored to be behind the potential All Elite Wrestling are all intelligent people. There’s not a dim bulb in that set. They will make sure all their ducks are in a row. Everything will as perfect as can be before proceeding too far.

They’re also incredible teases. They know how to build things up and make people want more.

The interesting bit here is that some WWE-contracted talent are all in. Well, not all in. Partially in. If the Elite’s got the money, honey, they’ve got the time. We can sit here and speculate all day on who in WWE might be willing to jump ship. Odds are that we’d all be wrong.

Instead, I’d like to offer up two names that would be 1000% better off, at least creatively, in All Elite Wrestling.

Anybody that saw Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder do their thing in NXT against teams like American Alpha, #DIY & AOP would agree that they’ve been massively underutilized since arriving on Raw. They also should have seen it coming. WWE treats tag teams the same way you treat that girl you’ve been friends with forever. You know the one.  The one that you wouldn’t dream of being with romantically because they wouldn’t be allowed to compete on 205 Live.

My good friend Greg DeMarco told you not to worry about the Revival when they got buried by DX & the Balor Club on the 25th anniversary episode of Raw. He told you that it was a sign of good things to come, because other talents that had gotten their asses kicked by old men or non-wrestlers had gone on to do big things. It was sound logic, but somewhat lacking due to the simple fact that WWE doesn’t care about tag teams anyway.

Hell, the Tag Team Survivor Series Match taking place on the Kickoff Show, and then not counting towards the score, told you all you needed to know there. If you still can’t get it, I can’t help you.

What’s been revived?

Anyway. What has The Revival done since #Raw25? A whole lot of nothing. The one thing I remember them doing this year is using #ForeverTheRevival as a response to a Being the Elite catchphrase. Apparently Cody was mad that people thought that Dash & Dawson were better than Nick & Matt, so it became a thing. This has been the most memorable thing the Revival has been involved in all year.

Shockingly, DX doing Revival the honor of kicking their asses meant nothing for them going forward. Being on DX’s side didn’t even do anything for the Balor Club, as Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson went to SmackDown Live to plug WWE Shop occasionally while Finn Balor spent most of the year feuding with the likes of Baron Corbin & Bobby Lashley while spinning his wheels on Raw. You would almost think that the segment was all about DX & nobody else involved was important. A crazy thought, I know.

Some NXT acts just aren’t meant for the main roster. This includes every tag team to have been called up. Unless you’re really high on the treatment of AOP and their urine-soaked manager. I mean, piss humor does nothing for me at my advanced age, but it might be your thing. I don’t judge. The Revival was never going to achieve their full potential on Raw. They might have had a chance to do things with the Usos & New Day on SmackDown since that writing team doesn’t mind sending tag teams out there to fill time they have nothing planned for. Raw? Not a chance.

All Elite Wrestling would have time for tag teams

Should this AEW fed become a thing, you know that tag teams are going to be prominently featured. Largely because the Young Bucks will be two of the promotion’s biggest stars. Call me crazy, but I don’t think the booking team will be in a rush to split Nick & Matt up to try & create singles stars. They’ll want the Bucks out there doing their crazy double team spots & all the things they do that have made them a huge deal on the indies & in Japan.

They’re going to need opponents. Who better than the tag team that was hyped as being better than the Young Bucks before being sent to Raw to die? The Revival, or The Rebirth or whatever they’d end up being called in AEW, would be a perfect team to put against the Bucks.

I don’t know what kind of money Dash & Dawson are making to do the No Flips, Just Fists thing occasionally on Raw & usually on Main Event. They might be happy getting paid right where they are. Maybe Khan wouldn’t offer the kind of money to change their minds. But from a creative standpoint, and the standpoint of being able to achieve their full potential in the ring, All Elite Wrestling & matches with the Young Bucks would give them much more to work with than anything they’ll get in WWE.

If there’s a jump to be made, and if anybody in WWE should make it, it’s The Revival. #FreeTheRevival

Chris King: Is Brock Lesnar Truly Retired?

Brock Lesnar WWE WrestleMania 42 Retirement

Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…

At WrestleMania 42, ‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar took off his boots and gloves following his loss to Oba Femi. Lesnar has done it all inside of his twenty-four-year career in professional wrestling. He’s a ten-time WWE Champion and former UFC Heavyweight Champion, and he’s one who ended The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania.

While Lesnar was in the ring, he was visibly overwhelmed with emotion and crying while he thanked the fans in his own way. The Beast even threw up an x to signal to Paul Heyman, his longtime friend and advocate, that this was not scripted and was real. There had been rumors that Lesnar and Oba were supposed to have a series of matches before everything went down at Mania.

‘The Career Killer’ Gunther was doing Heyman’s bidding as he faced Seth Rollins for a favor. For a while now since Gunther retired Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, the rumor has been Gunther was set to retire Lesnar in his hometown at this year’s SummerSlam event. There’s been no confirmation if Lesnar is truly retired, but on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, we saw Heyman talking with General Manager Nick Aldis. Later that night following Rhodes’ match against the debuting Ricky Saints, Gunther choked out the WWE Champion. Could this be the favor from Heyman?

I know in the world of professional wrestling we live by the mantra of “never say never,” but what if Lesnar is actually retired and this was WWE’s way of shutting down those rumors about Gunther and Lesnar? What if Gunther’s next program is chasing after the WWE title, and where is Randy Orton at in all of these plans? There are so many questions that need to be answered, hopefully soon!

Chris King: Defend The Intercontinental Championship At Backlash!

With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!

Penta WWE Intercontinental Championship WrestleMania 42

With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!

This year’s annual Backlash showcase is only a few days away, and while there are many big matches announced, one that definitely should be isn’t on the card. In my opinion, outside of Roman Reigns/Jacob Fatu and Seth Rollins/Bron Breakker, the Intercontinental Championship scene has been stellar over the last month.

Penta has been an excellent champion, especially after his triumphant title defense in a ladder match against JeVon Evans, Rusev, Dragon Lee, and the Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42. Their ladder match at Mania was one of the best that WWE has produced in a while.

The momentum never stopped, as on the post-Mania episode of Monday Night Raw, ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page made his debut and was quickly inserted into the Intercontinental title scene. Page had a fantastic showing against his longtime NXT rival Evans and picked up a big win in his debut match thanks to an assist from Rusev.

All Ego immediately joined forces with ‘The Bulgarian Brute’ Rusev, who was also vying for the Intercontinental Title in his own right. On this week’s episode of Raw, Page and Rusev defeated Evans and Penta. All Ego pinned the champion, making a huge statement and putting him one step closer to getting a title shot. For the past few weeks I’ve been anxiously waiting to see if WWE was going to add this incredible fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Championship, but it hasn’t happened yet.

As much as the WWE Universe enjoys witnessing great matches on free television, I truly believe all four superstars deserve the chance to showcase their talents on the PLE. While Penta has done a terrific job as the intercontinental champion, it’s time for a fresh face to hold the prestigious title. Page would make a great braggadocious heel that would help elevate the Intercontinental Championship to new heights!
