WWE’s Survivor Series is now exactly two weeks away as the November tradition heads to the Staples Center in Los Angeles this year.

Previously, it was reported that unlike the past couple of years, this year Survivor Series would not be focused on brand versus brand matches and plans were in place for Kurt Angle to lead a team up against a squad fronted by Baron Corbin (see the story here). However, a big monkey wrench was thrown into all of the WWE’s plans moving forward when Roman Reigns revealed he is battling leukemia. Of course, we’ve now seen three RAW vs. SmackDown Live matches announced for Survivor Series as Brock Lesnar faces AJ Styles, Becky Lynch takes on Charlotte Flair and Shinsuke Nakamura goes one-on-one with Seth Rollins.

Following up on the original story, the WrestleVotes Twitter account (which has been spot on with stories in the past) is reporting that there was never plans for the Universal Champion (Reigns) to face the WWE Champion (AJ Styles) like we saw last year when Styles squared off with Lesnar. However, creative was turned “upside down” over Roman’s announcement and an audible had to be called.

Additionally, it was noted that the Team Angle vs. Team Corbin match is “TBD”, meaning it’s likely to have been pushed off for the time being, although that’s not confirmed.

EA’s Take: Honestly, I’m more interested in knowing what else WWE originally had up their sleeve for Survivor Series before Roman had to take a leave. I’m not overly pumped for Styles vs. Lesnar again, not that I don’t think AJ will bring another incredible match out of Brock. Ronda/Becky certainly intrigues me though, as does Nakamura/Rollins with both being first time ever matches. I’d say after what happened at Crown Jewel with Shane McMahon putting himself into and winning the World Cup, the Angle/Corbin stuff is out the window and will be going the Shane vs. Corbin/Angle route.
