NXT UK

Episode 7

NXT UK Women’s Division: Episode 7 kicked off with Triple H and Johnny Saint announcing that there would a tournament, starting in Episode 8, to crown the first NXT UK Women’s Champion. The contenders are: Toni Storm, Rhea Ripley, Jinny, Millie Mckenzie, Dakota Kai, Nina Samuels, Isla Dawn, and Xia Brookside.

Later on, we got the brackets for this tournament: Dakota Kai vs Nina Samuels, Millie McKenzie vs Jinny, Xia Brookside vs Rhea Ripley (poor thing), and Toni Storm vs Isla Dawn.

Sid Scala vs Jordan Devlin: Sid Scala, who has recently been compared to the 1-2-3 Kid on social media, tried to get a win this week against the Irish Ace, Jordan Devlin.

How’d it go? Well, give Scala a Stout for trying. He did a really good job of keeping up with Devlin, and even got some momentum going, but Devlin’s not called the Irish Ace because it looks cool on a shirt. He handily put Scala away with a pop up Death Valley Driver for the win.

After his victory, Devlin gave an interview where he roasted the entire NXT UK locker room, or at least the guys. He said that all he saw in the locker room were posers and wannabes. He even mocked El Ligero, saying that the masked man couldn’t be a Luchador because he was from Leeds, though I’m pretty sure that’s not really a barrier.

Amir Jordan and Kenny Williams vs Saxon Huxley and Joseph Connors: Moustache Mountain’s challenge to the fledgling Tag Team Division seemed to have lit a fire in a lot of people, including these four gentlemen, which is about the only reason for this match.

The match was pretty good, but it was clear that Huxley and Connors were a slightly better team than Jordan and Williams. Both teams worked well together, but Jordan and Williams suffered from lapses that would cost them the victory, losing to Huxley and Connors by pinfall.

Trent Seven vs Zach Gibson: NXT UK folks caught up with Seven and asked about Liverpool’s #1. Seven had nothing but praise for Gibson, including him competing in three matches in one night, but pointed out that Gibson had come up short against Dunne, which seems to have damaged Gibson’s confidence. Seven was confident that he could deal with Gibson one-on-one and teach the upstart a lesson. It’s not an official challenge, but it was close enough.

Tyler Bate vs James Drake: Tyler Bate, one half of Moustache Mountain, took on Mr. Mayhem in a brilliant one-on-one. Drake put up a hell of a fight, but Bates’ reputation of being a prodigy was a well-earned one. He put Drake away with the Tyler Driver ’97 for a pinfall win.

Ashton Smith vs Wolfgang (with the Coffey Brothers): For weeks, Ashton Smith, Flash Morgan Webster, and Mark Andrews have been dealing with the fearsome trio of the Coffey Brothers and Wolfgang.

The match was really good. Wolfgang, with help from the Coffeys, dominated much of the match, ultimately pulling out a win with a monstrous suplex.

Episode 8

NXT UK Women’s Division: Last episode, Triple H and Johnny Saint had announced the introduction of the NXT UK Women’s Championship. This episode, the tournament kicked off with two great matches.

Dakota Kai took on Nina Samuels in the first match. Samuel made the big mistake of playing the arrogant heel and not taking Kai seriously, which Kai made her pay for and then some. To Samuel’s credit, she kept fighting, but she’d left the opening for Kai and Kai kicked in the door, taking out Samuels with her patented Kai-de-Grace.

The next match in the tournament featured Jinny and Millie McKenzie. To be honest, when I first saw Jinny in the Mae Young Classic, I wasn’t terribly impressed with her, but she proved to be very impressive in this match. McKenzie certainly lived up to her reputation as a badass, but Jinny would take home the victory after a rolling kick upside McKenzie’s head and advanced in the tournament.

Tyson T-Bone vs John Constantinou: Tyson T-Bone, also known as King of the Travelers, made his first appearance on NXT UK, taking John Constantinou, who doesn’t have a cool nickname. T-Bone made pretty quick work of Constantinou after nearly taking his head off with a stiff right hand and a nasty clothesline.

Apparently, this quick match wasn’t enough for T-Bone, who got on the mic and complained about his opponent, calling NXT UK a joke.

He’s interrupted by the massive Dave Mastiff, who is coming out for his own match, not to teach T-Bone a lesson, but if T-Bone is smart, he’ll learn the lesson anyway.

Dave Mastiff vs Dan Maloney: Dave Mastiff has been destroying every opponent he’s come across during his run in NXT UK and wowing everyone with his agility. This week was no different against Dan Maloney. To his immense credit, Maloney was smart enough to get the jump on Mastiff, but unless he borrowed Triple H’s sledgehammer, forearms and kicks were just going to make Mastiff mad. T-Bone even tried to elp Maloney, but Mastiff made swift work of Malone and got his meat hook raised in victory. T-Bone has been warned.

Zach Gibson vs Trent Seven: Liverpool’s #1 and one half of  Moustache Mountain have been having a war of words over the last couple of weeks. In the last episode, Seven sort of challenged Gibson to a match to settle things and, apparently, Gibson accepted.

The crowd was firmly on Seven’s side throughout this whole thing, but since Gibson’s only afraid of the audience’s foot odor, he tuned them out.

The match was really good. Gibson might have a terrible attitude and a weird phobia, but he’s a hell of a wrestler and was more than capable of keeping up with Seven. The two men nearly got counted out because they’d torn each other apart so much. Ultimately, Gibson would get some help from his tag team partner, James Drake, stealing a win from Seven by pinfall.

To add insult to injury, the Coffeys and Wolfgang storm the ring and attack, leaving Bate and Seven in a heap in the ring. The Sinister Scots are picking off all challengers to their claim to be the kings of NXT UK, only one left is Pete Dunne.

Chris King: Is Brock Lesnar Truly Retired?

Brock Lesnar WWE WrestleMania 42 Retirement

Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…

At WrestleMania 42, ‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar took off his boots and gloves following his loss to Oba Femi. Lesnar has done it all inside of his twenty-four-year career in professional wrestling. He’s a ten-time WWE Champion and former UFC Heavyweight Champion, and he’s one who ended The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania.

While Lesnar was in the ring, he was visibly overwhelmed with emotion and crying while he thanked the fans in his own way. The Beast even threw up an x to signal to Paul Heyman, his longtime friend and advocate, that this was not scripted and was real. There had been rumors that Lesnar and Oba were supposed to have a series of matches before everything went down at Mania.

‘The Career Killer’ Gunther was doing Heyman’s bidding as he faced Seth Rollins for a favor. For a while now since Gunther retired Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, the rumor has been Gunther was set to retire Lesnar in his hometown at this year’s SummerSlam event. There’s been no confirmation if Lesnar is truly retired, but on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, we saw Heyman talking with General Manager Nick Aldis. Later that night following Rhodes’ match against the debuting Ricky Saints, Gunther choked out the WWE Champion. Could this be the favor from Heyman?

I know in the world of professional wrestling we live by the mantra of “never say never,” but what if Lesnar is actually retired and this was WWE’s way of shutting down those rumors about Gunther and Lesnar? What if Gunther’s next program is chasing after the WWE title, and where is Randy Orton at in all of these plans? There are so many questions that need to be answered, hopefully soon!

Chris King: Defend The Intercontinental Championship At Backlash!

With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!

Penta WWE Intercontinental Championship WrestleMania 42

With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!

This year’s annual Backlash showcase is only a few days away, and while there are many big matches announced, one that definitely should be isn’t on the card. In my opinion, outside of Roman Reigns/Jacob Fatu and Seth Rollins/Bron Breakker, the Intercontinental Championship scene has been stellar over the last month.

Penta has been an excellent champion, especially after his triumphant title defense in a ladder match against JeVon Evans, Rusev, Dragon Lee, and the Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42. Their ladder match at Mania was one of the best that WWE has produced in a while.

The momentum never stopped, as on the post-Mania episode of Monday Night Raw, ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page made his debut and was quickly inserted into the Intercontinental title scene. Page had a fantastic showing against his longtime NXT rival Evans and picked up a big win in his debut match thanks to an assist from Rusev.

All Ego immediately joined forces with ‘The Bulgarian Brute’ Rusev, who was also vying for the Intercontinental Title in his own right. On this week’s episode of Raw, Page and Rusev defeated Evans and Penta. All Ego pinned the champion, making a huge statement and putting him one step closer to getting a title shot. For the past few weeks I’ve been anxiously waiting to see if WWE was going to add this incredible fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Championship, but it hasn’t happened yet.

As much as the WWE Universe enjoys witnessing great matches on free television, I truly believe all four superstars deserve the chance to showcase their talents on the PLE. While Penta has done a terrific job as the intercontinental champion, it’s time for a fresh face to hold the prestigious title. Page would make a great braggadocious heel that would help elevate the Intercontinental Championship to new heights!
