WWE Week in Review November 12-18, 2018
205 Live
WWE Cruiserweight Champion: Neither Buddy Murphy or Mustafa Ali were in action on Wednesday’s show but each cut promos on the other vowing victory. Murphy said that it was all about him and not the fairy tale of Mustafa Ali, which Ali responded to by saying that his heart would win out over Murphy’s power. There was also a shoving match when the two of them did their weigh in.
Drew Gulak and Jack Gallagher vs Brian Kendrick and Akira Tozawa: About a month ago, Gulak and Gallagher turned on Kendrick after blaming him for a loss that wasn’t his fault. Tozawa got involved because he had a grudge against Gulak and Gallagher for attacking him because Gulak was mad that he’d lost to Cedric Alexander, and in the spirt of the enemy of my enemy is my friend, Tozawa and Kendrick formed a tentative alliance.
The match was actually really good. Kendrick and Tozawa worked well together as a team, but Gulak and Gallagher’s teamwork, and sneakiness, was a little better and they stole a win from Kendrick and Tozawa with a roll up.
Lucha House Party vs Mike Karma and Kraig Keesaman: Lucha House Party, minus Gran Metalik, took on some local gentlemen on Wednesday. Karma and Keesaman didn’t take the Party seriously and paid for it by getting out maneuvered by Kalisto and Dorado at every turn. Dorado would pick up the win with a shooting star press on Keesaman.
As the Party was celebrating, they were interrupted by Maria Kanellis, who demanded respect as the First Lady of WWE. She congratulated the Party on their victory but warns them that TJP and Mike Kanellis aren’t done with them. The only reason that TJP and Kanellis weren’t there now beating up LHP was because Gran Metalik wasn’t there. She then announced that Gran Metalik would take on TJP next week.
Cedric Alexander vs Lio Rush: We all knew that one day, Lio Rush’s mouth was going to write a check his ass couldn’t cash, but I don’t think any of us thought it was going to be this week. Rush took on Cedric Alexander, who was looking to get back to his winning ways so he could get the rematch Drake Maverick had robbed him of.
The match was FANTASTIC. Rush was supremely confident, but that cockiness took a big hit when Alexander proved more than a match for the Man of the Hour.
Ultimately, Rush’s frustration at not being able to put Alexander away would cost Rush the match, and his undefeated streak. Alexander would get back on the right track with a THUNDEROUS Lumbar Check. Rush BOUNCED, I’m not kidding. Whoever the champ is after Survivor Series better keep an eye out for Cedric Alexander.
NXT
NXT Championship: Ciampa and Dream weren’t in action on Wednesday, but there was a promo package highlighting their feud intercut with each man vowing to walk out of War Games with the NXT Championship.
NXT Women’s Divison: We got a promo package for Bazler/Sane highlight their issues and Baszler’s theft of the Women’s Title at Evolution.
Mia Yim’s been in NXT barely two weeks and she’s already made an enemy out of Bianca Belair, who was not happy at someone else coming in why she was still waiting for the title shot she thinks she deserves.
The match between the two ladies was great. Yim showed off her impressive skills and Belair backed up her EST gimmick. Ultimately, Belair would get the pinfall win, but just barely. Still undefeated, technically.
Lacey Evans, who calls herself the Lady of NXT took on second generation up and comer, Karissa Rivera. Despite the best efforts of Rivera, Evans dominated the match from the start, finishing off Rivera with a thunderous Woman’s Right. After the match, Evans got on the mic and bemoaned the lack of sophistication, calling the NXT women’s locker room and bunch of classless nasties and demanding a title shot.
Kyle O’Reilly vs Hanson: It was decreed that one member of Undisputed Era would face a member of Team Ricochet to decide who would have the advantage in War Games. Hanson went because Ricochet and Dunne couldn’t agree on just who should face O’Reilly.
The match was pretty good, though why Hanson didn’t destroy O’Reilly is a mystery to me, however, both men looked really great out there. O’Reilly would pull off the win, but it took Undisputed Era beating down the rest of Team Ricochet to do it and Undisputed Era gained the advantage in War Games.

Chris King: Is Brock Lesnar Truly Retired?
Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…
Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…
At WrestleMania 42, ‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar took off his boots and gloves following his loss to Oba Femi. Lesnar has done it all inside of his twenty-four-year career in professional wrestling. He’s a ten-time WWE Champion and former UFC Heavyweight Champion, and he’s one who ended The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania.
While Lesnar was in the ring, he was visibly overwhelmed with emotion and crying while he thanked the fans in his own way. The Beast even threw up an x to signal to Paul Heyman, his longtime friend and advocate, that this was not scripted and was real. There had been rumors that Lesnar and Oba were supposed to have a series of matches before everything went down at Mania.
‘The Career Killer’ Gunther was doing Heyman’s bidding as he faced Seth Rollins for a favor. For a while now since Gunther retired Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, the rumor has been Gunther was set to retire Lesnar in his hometown at this year’s SummerSlam event. There’s been no confirmation if Lesnar is truly retired, but on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, we saw Heyman talking with General Manager Nick Aldis. Later that night following Rhodes’ match against the debuting Ricky Saints, Gunther choked out the WWE Champion. Could this be the favor from Heyman?
I know in the world of professional wrestling we live by the mantra of “never say never,” but what if Lesnar is actually retired and this was WWE’s way of shutting down those rumors about Gunther and Lesnar? What if Gunther’s next program is chasing after the WWE title, and where is Randy Orton at in all of these plans? There are so many questions that need to be answered, hopefully soon!

Chris King: Defend The Intercontinental Championship At Backlash!
With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!
With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!
This year’s annual Backlash showcase is only a few days away, and while there are many big matches announced, one that definitely should be isn’t on the card. In my opinion, outside of Roman Reigns/Jacob Fatu and Seth Rollins/Bron Breakker, the Intercontinental Championship scene has been stellar over the last month.
Penta has been an excellent champion, especially after his triumphant title defense in a ladder match against JeVon Evans, Rusev, Dragon Lee, and the Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42. Their ladder match at Mania was one of the best that WWE has produced in a while.
The momentum never stopped, as on the post-Mania episode of Monday Night Raw, ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page made his debut and was quickly inserted into the Intercontinental title scene. Page had a fantastic showing against his longtime NXT rival Evans and picked up a big win in his debut match thanks to an assist from Rusev.
All Ego immediately joined forces with ‘The Bulgarian Brute’ Rusev, who was also vying for the Intercontinental Title in his own right. On this week’s episode of Raw, Page and Rusev defeated Evans and Penta. All Ego pinned the champion, making a huge statement and putting him one step closer to getting a title shot. For the past few weeks I’ve been anxiously waiting to see if WWE was going to add this incredible fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Championship, but it hasn’t happened yet.
As much as the WWE Universe enjoys witnessing great matches on free television, I truly believe all four superstars deserve the chance to showcase their talents on the PLE. While Penta has done a terrific job as the intercontinental champion, it’s time for a fresh face to hold the prestigious title. Page would make a great braggadocious heel that would help elevate the Intercontinental Championship to new heights!
