AJ’s Top Five HARDEST Video Game Bosses
AJ decides to add some long overdue video game content! His Top 5 hardest bosses! Any flashbacks here?
Wow, it has been a long while since we have done one of these. As I go through more and more of the collection of games in the Balaz household, I just think of all the good memories that I get from most of them… and then I get a handful of bad ones as I look at certain titles. Yes, today I’m going to go over my personal difficult bosses that I have encountered in my quarter-century time as a gamer. I know that a lot of people will probably have different difficult bosses and that’s understandable where I might not have played the game or I had a different experience with it.
For those that have played against the bosses I am mentioning, I am so sorry for the gaming PTSD…
#5: M. Bison (Street Fighter 2)

Ah yes… probably a very common difficult boss on most people’s list, the introduction of M. Bison was the absolute worst. I’m not the biggest fan of fighting games but I can say for the shred of time that I have played SF2 with friends, I absolutely hated playing through and facing the final boss in M. Bison. Who’s bright idea was it to give him a move that when it connects, drops you to half health or less? Seriously… and this game was back in the stand-up gaming days too so I know most of the people in Chairshot know this exact pain from reading it when they were younger.
#4: Dark Lumina (Brave Fencer Musashi)

Ah yes… My first gaming review. Brave Fencer Musashi is a cute little game, full of food puns and a cute little story. Usually the whole save the day, use the sword of Legend to protect every– Oh the sword of legend is the final boss. There was a darkness inside of it and trying to destroy the world? Lovely…
This three part Final Boss gave me trouble and I’m not going to deny it. The patterns are kind of wacky, the hit boxes for each part are very precise and you need to know what you are doing. If this is your first time playing it, it will most likely make you get about thirty tries to actually defeat Lumina. From the diving slash you have to hit in the right spot, all the way to having to remember your other sword’s special move (that you probably very rarely use unless the situation called for it), you’ll be screaming at your PlayStation or emulator for a while.
#3: Omega Weapon (Final Fantasy VIII)

It’s me… of course there is going to be a Final Fantasy game involved and it’s my favorite of all time. Throughout the game, there is no mention of this character or even a hint. Just a random church bell in the final stage of the game and you can switch party members. What’s the worst that can happen right? Suddenly, a timer is set and you have less than a minute to get to this optional boss’ room.
You either have to have the cheesiest cheap tactics to beat this optional Superboss or the right amount of luck because this thing will dismantle you. Yes, it’s moves are on a rotational pattern but, when it can deal max damage with Terra Break and nearly kill the party with Meggido Flame. Not to mention the single target, kill a party member ability and the always shocking Level 5 Death that if you don’t know how the magic junction system works, you are most likely dead with your Level 100 characters.
#2: Heishen (Yu-Gi-Oh Forbidden Memories)
Not quite the final boss for the game but, he is one of the hardest ones for a lot of reasons. If you were a young kid like me that loved Trading Card Games in the early 2000’s, you probably heard of or saw this game before. Heishen uses high level cards with high attack power while you’re still learning astrological fusion (it makes sense if you played this).Unless you grinded hard for good cards, or had all of the Twin Headed Thunder Dragon combinations, he destroyed your life.
Let’s not forget for the long time fans of the TV Series, the guy has Exodia. The, if I have all five pieces of the character in my hand, I automatically win the game. You can’t respond to it. You lose. Good day, now leave. You have to always expect the unexpected with him and kill him as fast as possible. It has nothing to do with luck, skill or tactics. It’s good ol’ Random Number Generator here to ruin your day.
I could have just said YGO Forbidden Memories alone as the hardest but that would just be a hardest games I’ve played series. Now what in the world could be the hardest boss I have ever faced in the games I have played…
#1: Skeith, The Terror of Death (.hack// Infection)

I’m impressed with myself. Not a single swear……. Up until now. FUCK… THIS BOSS! (Editor’s Note: It’s a new world record, I swear.)
You are introduced to this boss in the beginning of the four game series known as ‘.hack’. A game that is literally centered around the MMORPG The World and spun off from the anime of the same name. There are suddenly deadly viruses that take over the game and are destroying the world that is centered around technology. I digress because that is just the plot of the series. The final boss of the first installment and first of eight in the game series alone, is somehow the hardest one in the whole game.
It can kill any party member with a single hit, it has an ability called Data Drain to inflict EVERY STATUS AILMENT IN THE GAME. You better come stocked with ways to heal, revive and remove statuses from your team or needless to say, you don’t have to spend money on the other three games in the series. Subsequent bosses were never as hard and one dimensional comparatively, but they really do throw the Terror of Death at you immediately.
Those were my top five most difficult bosses and it probably varies from person to person since I love my RPG games to death. How about yours?
Message me @PhenomenalAJB on Twitter and there might just be a revised list or a new idea of a video game article. Now if you excuse me… I have to get the horror bells of Skeith’s theme out of my head before he corrupts my data.
