Bodeen’s Top 5 Moments: WWE SmackDown (2/12/21)
With Elimination Chamber matches set; Bodeen lists out his Top 5 moments from SmackDown!
With the Elimination Chamber just over a week away, SmackDown delivered a somewhat average show that arguably was weaker than most recent episodes. However, the Elimination Chamber match for SmackDown is now set.
So it’s time to look at the top 5 moments from SmackDown this week.
5. The Street Profits beat Otis and Gable
The Street Profits are easily one of the best teams in the tag team division across all three rosters in WWE. They have energy, charisma and amazing in-ring ability, putting on great matches with the likes of The Undisputed Era, The New Day and The Viking Raiders.
The Street Profits would have another great showing this week as they put on a solid match against Otis and Chad Gable. All four men would shine with the match highlighting the agility of The Street Profits, as well as the power of Otis.
With The Street Profits starting to get some momentum back this could easily lead to them recapturing the SmackDown Tag Team titles.
4. Apollo Crews completes his heel turn
During 2020 Apollo Crews went from barely used midcarder to United States Champion. His matches against the members of The Hurt Business did a great job in making people realize how underrated he really is. However, after Bobby Lashley beat him for the belt he started to lose the status he had just gained.
Luckily his series of matches against Big E have yet again reminded fans of his amazing in-ring ability. This series of matches have also allowed Apollo to turn heel with Apollo adding the finishing touches to his heel turn as he interfered in a match between Big E and Shinsuke Nakamura.
With Apollo’s character now feeling fresh after his heel turn I can easily see him beating Big E in the near future for the Intercontinental Championship.
3. The return of Seth Rollins
Seth Rollins’s messiah gimmick was one of the most divisive gimmicks in 2020. While a lot of fans loved the new heel gimmick, other fans found it uninteresting especially due to a long feud with the Mysterio family. Love it or hate it, the messiah gimmick is here to stay on SmackDown as Seth returned and talked about the greater good.
A great part of this segment was Seth making fans believe he’d turn face as he returned with his old burn it down theme. Seth then mentioned his newborn child, stating that he had changed over time. This all turned out to be a ruse as Seth then gave a familiar promo about him being the leader of SmackDown.
After SmackDown superstars left the ring only Cesaro stood, teasing that he was going to join Seth, only to leave Seth standing alone in the ring. Seth would then attack Cesaro leaving Cesaro hurt heading into his match.
2. Adam Pearce stands up to Roman Reigns
Despite being a veteran in the ring, at times Adam Pearce has been made to look like a joke during his time as a WWE official. Pearce has been constantly been made to look weak to people like Randy Orton and Braun Strowman as he seems to bow down to their commends.
Luckily Pearce has regained his authority with his recent interactions with Roman Reigns. Over time we have seen Pearce stand up to Roman more and more, with Pearce even getting in Roman’s face this week after giving an announcement for the Chamber match.
Roman facing the winner of the Elimination Chamber match after the match itself is also a great touch and helps his character heading into WrestleMania.
1. Daniel Bryan and Cesaro beat Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode
Cesaro’s recent push has seemingly come out of nowhere. In just a few weeks Cesaro has scored two clean victories over Daniel Bryan with Cesaro continuing the hot streak this week as he defeated Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode with the help of Daniel Bryan.
This was a great match that did another good job of making Cesaro look strong as he made Dolph Ziggler tap out to the Sharpshooter despite heading into the match hurt after the attack from Seth Rollins.
The segment at the end was also nice to watch with Kevin Owens looking dominant as he gave everyone in the ring a stunner giving a message to Roman Reigns.
These were my top 5 moments for SmackDown this week. What were your top 5 moments and who do you think will win the SmackDown Elimination Chamber match? Let us know in the comments below

Chris King: Is Brock Lesnar Truly Retired?
Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…
Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…
At WrestleMania 42, ‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar took off his boots and gloves following his loss to Oba Femi. Lesnar has done it all inside of his twenty-four-year career in professional wrestling. He’s a ten-time WWE Champion and former UFC Heavyweight Champion, and he’s one who ended The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania.
While Lesnar was in the ring, he was visibly overwhelmed with emotion and crying while he thanked the fans in his own way. The Beast even threw up an x to signal to Paul Heyman, his longtime friend and advocate, that this was not scripted and was real. There had been rumors that Lesnar and Oba were supposed to have a series of matches before everything went down at Mania.
‘The Career Killer’ Gunther was doing Heyman’s bidding as he faced Seth Rollins for a favor. For a while now since Gunther retired Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, the rumor has been Gunther was set to retire Lesnar in his hometown at this year’s SummerSlam event. There’s been no confirmation if Lesnar is truly retired, but on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, we saw Heyman talking with General Manager Nick Aldis. Later that night following Rhodes’ match against the debuting Ricky Saints, Gunther choked out the WWE Champion. Could this be the favor from Heyman?
I know in the world of professional wrestling we live by the mantra of “never say never,” but what if Lesnar is actually retired and this was WWE’s way of shutting down those rumors about Gunther and Lesnar? What if Gunther’s next program is chasing after the WWE title, and where is Randy Orton at in all of these plans? There are so many questions that need to be answered, hopefully soon!

Chris King: Defend The Intercontinental Championship At Backlash!
With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!
With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!
This year’s annual Backlash showcase is only a few days away, and while there are many big matches announced, one that definitely should be isn’t on the card. In my opinion, outside of Roman Reigns/Jacob Fatu and Seth Rollins/Bron Breakker, the Intercontinental Championship scene has been stellar over the last month.
Penta has been an excellent champion, especially after his triumphant title defense in a ladder match against JeVon Evans, Rusev, Dragon Lee, and the Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42. Their ladder match at Mania was one of the best that WWE has produced in a while.
The momentum never stopped, as on the post-Mania episode of Monday Night Raw, ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page made his debut and was quickly inserted into the Intercontinental title scene. Page had a fantastic showing against his longtime NXT rival Evans and picked up a big win in his debut match thanks to an assist from Rusev.
All Ego immediately joined forces with ‘The Bulgarian Brute’ Rusev, who was also vying for the Intercontinental Title in his own right. On this week’s episode of Raw, Page and Rusev defeated Evans and Penta. All Ego pinned the champion, making a huge statement and putting him one step closer to getting a title shot. For the past few weeks I’ve been anxiously waiting to see if WWE was going to add this incredible fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Championship, but it hasn’t happened yet.
As much as the WWE Universe enjoys witnessing great matches on free television, I truly believe all four superstars deserve the chance to showcase their talents on the PLE. While Penta has done a terrific job as the intercontinental champion, it’s time for a fresh face to hold the prestigious title. Page would make a great braggadocious heel that would help elevate the Intercontinental Championship to new heights!
