Bodeen’s Top 5 Moments: WWE NXT (3/10/21)
After an interesting episode of NXT with new titles being introduced; what peaked Bodeen’s interest?
With a huge announcement from William Regal and two huge title matches, there was plenty of hype heading into NXT this week. Thankfully NXT delivered an amazing episode of NXT as both title matches lived up to the hype. To add to this we also more development of Xia Li’s new gimmick as she faced her former friend, Kayden Carter and more as we build to a special two-night Takeover With such an action-packed episode it was hard to put just 5 moments on this list, but here are the special moments that stood on an amazing episode of NXT.
5. Kayden Carter faces Xia Li
As I have mentioned previously, Xia Li’s recent transformation has been incredible to watch. Just a few months ago she drifted in the midcard, barely standing out mainly due to how talented the NXT Women’s roster is. Then her new character created an aura of mystery and intrigue when vignettes started showing. Xia would follow this up with a strong first showing of her new gimmick as she dominated her opponents. Xia would keep this domination going on NXT this week as she fought Kayden Carter with the match ending after Kacy Catanzaro attacked Xia Li to cause a disqualification.
While this match was mostly another strong showing for Xia Li, it was extremely surprising to see how much offense Kayden Carter got in against Xia. Xia would later regain control in the match as she put Kayden Carter’s legs in a dangerous position near the ring post, only for Kacy Catanzaro to attack Xia with a crutch. Boa would then confront Catanzaro before Catanzaro and Carter left the ring.
Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter are great choices for Xia Li’s first big feud, mainly due to the history that these three women share with each other as a well-booked feud with Li, Catanzaro and Carter can show how much Xia has transformed.
4. Pete Dunne challenges Jake Atlas
What made NXT so special this week was the fact that every match where great to watch from start to finish. Pete Dunne facing Jake Atlas was an example of this as both men put on a solid match. While this could have easily been a squash match, putting Dunne over, Atlas pushed Dunne during the match and looked strong in the match despite losing against Dunne.
Atlas would catch Dunne off-guard multiple times in the match using his speed and ability to get the advantage of Dunne. Dunne would then get control back, targeting the arm of Atlas and putting him in multiple submission holds, with Atlas out, after Dunne put him in an armbar.
After beating Atlas, Dunne would grab the mic and call out any future challengers to step up to Dune, potentially setting up the seeds for a feud at the next TakeOver.
3. William Regal’s huge announcement
After Adam Pearce made Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai their match against Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler their match for the Women’s Tag Team Titles last week on NXT, William Regal would tell fans he had a huge announcement to make on NXT. Regal would waste no time telling fans his huge announcement as he announced a two-night TakeOver event as well as the debut of the NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles, with Regal crowing Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez the titles.
The NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles are a great idea. NXT has arguably the greatest women’s roster in professional wrestling history. Due to the roster being so stacked many women go under the radar on the roster. The new titles are the perfect way to solve this problem and can be the perfect stepping stone for building new stars heading into the future.
The announcement of a special two-night is also huge news as we are sure to see two great nights of wrestling, making Wrestlemania week extremely stacked.
2. Io Shari finally beats Toni Storm
After William Regal’s huge announcement to kick off NXT this week Io Shirai and Toni Storm had a huge job trying to follow up. Despite the pressure, both women had a great match with each other with Shirai getting her first singles win against Storm as she retained her NXT Women’s Championship, making her one of the strongest champions in history.
While a few of the strikes the match felt sloppy and slightly off, it was still entertaining to still both women facing each other. Late in the match, Storm would hit Shirai with the Storm Zero for a near fall. Storm would then go to the top rope and try to hit a diving headbutt only for Shirai to catch her in the Crossface, with Storm eventually tapping out.
After the match, Io Shirai would confront Raquel Gonzalez, stating that she wanted to face Gonzalez next for the Woman’s Championship.
1. Adam Cole and Finn Balor square off for the NXT Championship
After an amazing NXT, it was only fitting we would finish with a highly anticipated, TakeOver worthy match, as Adam Cole faced Finn Balor for the NXT Championship. Both men would push each other to their limit, with Cole having the upper hand late in the match only for Kyle O’Reilly to surprise Cole and cost him the match.
Both men would trade offense in an evenly paced contest, however, Cole would get the upper hand after he superkicked Balor’s surgically repaired jaw. This would give Cole the upper hand allowing him to hit the Last Shot and the Panama Sunrise on Balor, only for Balor to kick out of both finishers from Cole, leaving Cole shocked.
Kyle O’Reilly would then distract Cole allowing Balor to hit the 1916 and Coup De Grace to beat Cole. Kyle would then attack Cole after the match, following him backstage. Before anyone could get their breath back, Balor would be confronted by Karrion Kross, with both men staring at each other to finish the show.
These were my top 5 moments from NXT this week. What were your top 5 moments and what was your favorite match? Let us know in the comments below.

Chris King: Is Brock Lesnar Truly Retired?
Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…
Brock Lesnar retired at WWE WrestleMania 42, right? Are we totally sure? Chris King asks…
At WrestleMania 42, ‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar took off his boots and gloves following his loss to Oba Femi. Lesnar has done it all inside of his twenty-four-year career in professional wrestling. He’s a ten-time WWE Champion and former UFC Heavyweight Champion, and he’s one who ended The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania.
While Lesnar was in the ring, he was visibly overwhelmed with emotion and crying while he thanked the fans in his own way. The Beast even threw up an x to signal to Paul Heyman, his longtime friend and advocate, that this was not scripted and was real. There had been rumors that Lesnar and Oba were supposed to have a series of matches before everything went down at Mania.
‘The Career Killer’ Gunther was doing Heyman’s bidding as he faced Seth Rollins for a favor. For a while now since Gunther retired Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, the rumor has been Gunther was set to retire Lesnar in his hometown at this year’s SummerSlam event. There’s been no confirmation if Lesnar is truly retired, but on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, we saw Heyman talking with General Manager Nick Aldis. Later that night following Rhodes’ match against the debuting Ricky Saints, Gunther choked out the WWE Champion. Could this be the favor from Heyman?
I know in the world of professional wrestling we live by the mantra of “never say never,” but what if Lesnar is actually retired and this was WWE’s way of shutting down those rumors about Gunther and Lesnar? What if Gunther’s next program is chasing after the WWE title, and where is Randy Orton at in all of these plans? There are so many questions that need to be answered, hopefully soon!

Chris King: Defend The Intercontinental Championship At Backlash!
With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!
With WWE Backlash upon us, Chris King wants to see Penta defend the Intercontinental Championship in Tampa!
This year’s annual Backlash showcase is only a few days away, and while there are many big matches announced, one that definitely should be isn’t on the card. In my opinion, outside of Roman Reigns/Jacob Fatu and Seth Rollins/Bron Breakker, the Intercontinental Championship scene has been stellar over the last month.
Penta has been an excellent champion, especially after his triumphant title defense in a ladder match against JeVon Evans, Rusev, Dragon Lee, and the Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42. Their ladder match at Mania was one of the best that WWE has produced in a while.
The momentum never stopped, as on the post-Mania episode of Monday Night Raw, ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page made his debut and was quickly inserted into the Intercontinental title scene. Page had a fantastic showing against his longtime NXT rival Evans and picked up a big win in his debut match thanks to an assist from Rusev.
All Ego immediately joined forces with ‘The Bulgarian Brute’ Rusev, who was also vying for the Intercontinental Title in his own right. On this week’s episode of Raw, Page and Rusev defeated Evans and Penta. All Ego pinned the champion, making a huge statement and putting him one step closer to getting a title shot. For the past few weeks I’ve been anxiously waiting to see if WWE was going to add this incredible fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Championship, but it hasn’t happened yet.
As much as the WWE Universe enjoys witnessing great matches on free television, I truly believe all four superstars deserve the chance to showcase their talents on the PLE. While Penta has done a terrific job as the intercontinental champion, it’s time for a fresh face to hold the prestigious title. Page would make a great braggadocious heel that would help elevate the Intercontinental Championship to new heights!
